and then there were two
Mia and Jen had a big day ahead of them, they were going to go out to lunch with Madison while Emily babysat the boys. Later in the day Mia was going to go get an ultrasound done to see what she was having. Mia is autistic, so planning out her day is important to her as it causes her less stress if something were to ever happen. Which considering her life, sometimes it’s difficult and she has had intense meltdowns over it where Jen has had to help her through.
Mia had gotten ready for lunch with Jen and Madison, she wore a lettuce trim white shirt with sunflowers on it along with it she had on white leggings to be able to wear over her growing bump and to finish off her look she wore black stilettos with rose gold sunglasses on top of her curled wavy hair. Jen decided to wear an all black button up flannel with black jeans and gold jewelry and decided to wear black shoes to go along with it. Before they left Jen reassured Mia that if things went wrong she’d be there for her, even to hold her hand if she noticed Mia would be in distress because with Madison it was sometimes unpredictable with what she’d say, especially with going out to lunch, which they didn’t do often, Mia got worried, but Jen kept her reassured.
Jen and Mia walked hand in hand before being met with Madison, Mia hugged her as tight as she could without her bump getting in the way as she was growing, she was now 18 weeks pregnant and showing a lot. Madison noticed her bump since the last time she saw Mia which was at the engagement and announcing her pregnancy. “You’re getting so big Mia!” Madison pointed out, Mia smiling before sitting down in the chair beside Jen. Madison immediately questioned Mia about when she’d find out what she was having, “I’m 18 weeks right now and I have an appointment today to find out” Mia answered. Madison had a feeling she was pregnant with twins but didn’t wanna tell her that. She just wanted to see her find out herself and then be excited with her when Madison finally knows. But even though Madison was happy about Mia’s pregnancy she still was unsure of what to tell Mia about the night she announced her pregnancy and got engaged to Jen for the second time. Mia knew something was off about the lunch but didn’t say anything so she kept it to herself. Mia always caught onto how people acted and knew when something was up, she was blunt when it came to this, she was never afraid to ask a question but always was afraid of how the person would respond as it was a part of what made her, her, and it was her autistic traits showing, she didn’t mask around Jen so she felt okay with asking her mom anything. Even though she was scared of getting upset or upsetting her mom, she asked her mom if something was up because she felt something was off. Mia wasn’t expecting the response she got.
“Mia, honey, the night you announced your pregnancy and got engaged is the same night your dad got in a drunk driving accident, I didn’t wanna tell you that night because I knew it was hard for you. I’m sorry for not telling you sooner and it’s okay if you’re mad at me or upset with me.” Madison said, Mia completely panicking the moment she found out about the accident. Madison explained how bad it was and that they don’t know how long he could be in the hospital for, it could be months. Mia tried to act like the news didn’t make her wanna have an anxiety attack right there. Jen looked at Mia and could tell she wasn’t okay, and grabbed her hands under the table. Mia was upset. She wanted to cry right there, or even have a mental breakdown. She couldn’t help but blame herself. Jen could tell she was upset but tried her best to comfort her in the best way she could without making it noticeable to Madison that Mia was in distress.
Mia was upset, then her phone rang, it was the doctor’s office telling Mia that she could come in to the office to get an ultrasound to find out what she was having. She hung up the phone and Mia and Jen told Madison about their appointment before they left. They called Emily telling them they had an appointment for the ultrasound so they could be getting home later in the afternoon.
Mia and Jen went to their appointment to get the ultrasound done, they were excited, it gave Mia something to look forward to after the news from her mom about her dad and the car accident. But now it was finally happening. They were going to find out what they were having. Mia couldn’t stop smiling, after such a huge loss Mia and Jen didn’t know how they’d make it this far. But they did it.
Mia sat down on the chair in the room and the doctor put the cold jelly on her stomach for the ultrasound, they could hear a heartbeat which made Mia so happy to know that her baby was healthy. “You have two healthy heartbeats” the doctor said reassuringly, “two meaning mine and the babies?” Mia asked, “if we’re counting yours that would be three heartbeats, congratulations you’re having twins girls!” the doctor said. They were beyond happy, they couldn’t believe that they were having a rainbow baby let alone twins, they were so happy. Mia was crying by the time the doctor left the room. “We’re having twins!” Mia said, crying while kissing Jen, they left the happiest they’ve ever felt. They were so beyond happy and even happier to be having twins.
After they got home, they were greeted with hugs from the boys, before they left Mia promised to show the boys the ultrasound. But Mia was exhausted and wanted to go lay down in the bed, especially since they had gotten home so late bc they also had other stuff they had to do after the ultrasound and Mia was burnt out and genuinely just needed to lay on the bed and have her feet up, she got comfortable in a black tank top and her white cardigan and some soft pants that could fit over her growing belly. Jen did the same and put on one of Mia’s shirts and some sweatpants. They layed in bed together and talked, they talked about Zoe and how they impacted their lives and how they noticed the last time they saw them she had a flatter chest when they went out to lunch with them and Emily. They knew that whatever gender Zoe was, she deserved to feel comfortable in herself, even though Mia did want to question if Zoe got a binder because she wanted to feel happy for them, she knew if Zoe wanted Mia to know they would’ve told her directly, but Mia had given Zoe her full support. They wanted Emily to be happy, and they were happy Zoe could finally give Emily the happiness she longed for but hadn’t found in anyone else. It was nice to see Emily so genuinely happy with Zoe, for once everyone felt content, even if it was hard.
Soon enough Jen was talking to the babies in Mia’s stomach, they both loved them before they even knew them, how could they not. Eventually they came to a conversation about baby names and they decided on Hailey and Sadie, right then both Henry and Charlie came into Jen and Mia’s room, wanting to know what their mom was having. Without question Mia told the boys they were going to be having twin girls. Their faces lit up with excitement, they couldn’t wait to be big brothers. Mia showed them the ultrasound and she teared up and hugged them. She couldn’t believe she was pregnant again, let alone with twins, and when she told the boys, the reality set in. She really was going to be a mom. After everything that day was, Jen and Mia finally went to bed, hand in hand over Mia’s growing bump. They felt happy with their family, even after such a hectic day.
