Friendships Tested, Tempered, and True

“I can’t wait for this test to be done.” Alana exclaimed while shutting her locker.

“I feel like I’ve been studying for this math test for 72 hours straight.” Freya sighed and took another sip from her coffee.

“I can’t wait to sleep when this is done.” Julie said with a yawn.

“Hey guys.” Dawn greeted them with a smile. “Are you guys okay?” she asked with a frown.

The three girls looked at the tall ravenette in shock. She looked happy and like she’d slept instead of studying all night.

“Oh no!” Freya exclaimed. “You forgot,” she added with a whisper.

“Forgot what?” Dawn replied while looking at her outfit. Shirt, skirt, shoes, socks (even matching ones): check, check, check, and double-check. Nothing seems out of place or missing.

“Oh, Dawn.” Julie dramatically sighed and walked closer to her. She placed her hands on Dawn’s shoulders and looked up into blue eyes with sympathy. In return, Dawn looked at her with worry. “We have a test on transformations, triangles and congruent triangles,” she stated, waiting for the girl’s reaction.

Dawn’s brows furrowed as her gaze moved from person to person, swept over the obvious concern on their faces. Then a small smile slipped from her lips, and she couldn’t contain the chuckle as she said, “I know.”

“You know?” Julie exclaimed. “But you look like you have your normal eight-hour sleep and not panicking at all,” she added.

“Did you even study for today?” Alana asked.

“Not really.” Dawn shrugged and began to examine the contents of her locker.

“Dawn!” The three girls exclaimed, making the taller one jump in surprise.

“Are you crazy? This test is 50% of our grades,” Freya stated.

“Why are you suddenly so chill about this? Last time you were panicking with us,” Alana added.

Dawn sighed and let her head hang a bit. Everyone finding out she was Luthor-Danvers was one thing. A lot of people already treated her differently, but she was happy her friends didn’t change how they saw her. Unfortunately, this also meant they didn’t know as much about her as they thought they did.

“Here’s the thing...” she started and watched as she captured her friends’ attention. “I was never nervous for a test. I just acted nervous to not make you feel bad and to seem normal.” She added the last bit quickly, leaving her friends wide-eyed and speechless.

“I’m sorry, what ?” Julie asked, still in shock.

“So you don’t study for tests?” Freya asked.

“Well, I study for some of them but not as much as you do. Like I never study for a single math test at school because I already learnt them when I was younger. I only had to learn the ways the teachers wanted us to solve them.” She quickly said and started moving towards the classroom, her friends following.

“I’m sorry, you already learnt them?” Alana question.

“Yeah. I mean, I learned the whole 10th grade when I was fourteen, along with other subjects that we are not taught at school,” Dawn replied.

“But you never get 100 on a test,” Julie pointed out.

“That’s because I add mistakes depending on how hard the test is so I won’t ruin the average for the rest of the class.” She shrugged, and a hand fell on her shoulder. Dawn didn’t resist, allowing Alana to turn her until they stood face to face.

“How smart are you?” she whispered, the other girls close enough to hear the answer like it was one of the biggest secrets in the school.

“I’m currently a 5th level of intellect. Although, Mom said I’m slowly getting to 6th level of intellect,” she replied with worry.

“What the fuck does that even mean??” Julie exclaimed before getting shushed by the others and pulled back into their circle.

“Well, according to research, Sherlock Holmes is a 6th level intellect, if that helps,” Dawn said with a shrug. The bell rang, making the girls jump in surprise. “We should head to the cl—”

“You could have helped us with our school work all this time, and you didn’t?” Julie exclaimed with anger before walking past Dawn to enter the class.

“Julie,” Dawn called out for her friend with a frown. When the short girl disappeared into the classroom, she turned to her other friends who avoided her eyes and followed Julie.

Freya paused at the entrance of the classroom and looked at her “You know, Julie almost didn’t pass last year. She went to summer school, and Alana and I helped her a lot.”

“I didn’t know that,” the tall girl replied with sadness.

“I know. We didn’t tell you because you went on a vacation with your family for a whole month, so Julie didn’t want to ruin your fun time with her problems,” she stated with a sad expression. “At least now we know why your parents didn’t even wait for your results before leaving,” she added with a shrug and entered the classroom.

Dawn followed her friends and sat at her seat, trying to ignore the stares of the students that wanted to be friends with her.

The test was easy as always. Dawn finished it in twenty minutes by accident, forgetting to pretend to struggle. She looked at her answers and was trying to figure out a way of helping the others when the teacher spoke from behind her.

“You are already done, Dawn?” he said. “Of course, what else to expect from a Luthor,” he added with a smile and snatched the paper out of her hands, not giving her time to replace some questions with the wrong answers. “I knew you’ve been holding back on me,” the man said as he happily sat at his desk to correct her test.

Dawn leaned back at her chair and glanced at Julie who glared at her before focusing back on the test. She sighed and checked the clock, counting down the minutes until the bell rang.

“Please be here,” Dawn mumbled while walking towards their spot. She wanted to talk to her friends as soon as the bell rang, but her math teacher stopped her just to fanboy about her mom and about how happy he is that he has a Luthor in his classroom. Every time he said Luthor, Dawn corrected him to Luthor-Danvers, but he did not bother to correct himself. She was quite disappointed when her friends did not wait for her outside the classroom like they always do, but she just had to find them, talk to them, and everything would be fine, right?

The ravenette spotted her friends on the bench where they usually sit and she rushed to them. “I’m so happy I found you,” she exclaimed when she reached them and took a few deep breaths. “Hey, are you okay?” she asked when she noticed Julie crying.

“What do you care?” Julie replied with a sniff. “You already stopped giving a shit about us when you finished that test in twenty minutes.”

“I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking and—”

“You weren’t thinking?” Julie exclaimed and stood up, nearly pushing Alana and Freya to the ground. “I spent the whole time trying to finish that test and I only managed to finish five questions. FIVE.” she shouted. “I study for days, and I will probably fail it and you just don’t even care about it.”

“Julie.” Dawn tried to calm her down and explain to her but the shorter girl continued talking.

“I get it you had to keep your family name a secret, but you could have helped us when we needed you. All the hours we spent struggling at school, and you probably just spent your time having fun instead of studying.” Julie accused, tapping her finger on Dawn’s chest.

“Hey, that’s not true. I was studying, just not school stuff.”

“Guys,” Alana spoke but was ignored.

“You could have made time for us,” Julie shouted.

“You never asked for my help,” Dawn shouted back.

“GUYS!” Alana shouted again, and the two girls turned to her, replying with a “What?”

Dawn and Julie froze as they saw the two big men holding Alana and Freya at gunpoint.

“Your uncle said it will be easier to capture you compared to the others.” A new man drifted in behind the other four, a smirk dotting his face.

“Jonathan,” Dawn snarled.

“Hello, Dawn. Would you like some whiskey?” the young man said with a teasing voice.

A witty retort died on Dawn’s lips as someone struck her on her head from behind, turning everything black.

Dawn. Dawn, wake up. ”

Dawn gasped and sat on the floor, blinking at the bright light, fluorescent lights on the ceiling. Her head was throbbing from whatever hit her, and based on the red light of her cell and how powerless she felt, there were definitely red sun lamps installed. She checked her wrist. ‘ Damn it ,’ watch missing which meant no way to call her Jeju and no way for her family to track her down.

Dawn! Guys, she’s awake, ” she heard the muffled voice of Alana and turned towards the direction.

She gasped when she noticed her friends on a weird glass box a few feet away from her cell. “Alana!” She called out and rushed to the bars of her cell. She didn’t notice the way Alana and Freya were trying to stop her, and when she touched the bars electricity coursed through her, deep to her bones and knocking her back to the far wall.

Are you okay? ” Freya called out.

Dawn slowly pushed herself up from the floor, coughing as she tried to relax her suddenly tense muscles. She winced in pain and knew the way she landed on the floor must have injured her wrist. “Yeah, I’m totally fine.” She forced out a smile, but based on the worried looks given her in return, it was less than convincing.

The heavy door at the far right of the room opened with a loud scraping noise before shutting with a thud that echoed in the empty room. “I see you are awake,” a smug voice said.

As Jonathan approached her cell, Dawn rolled her eyes. “Agh, it’s you.”

“Why do you react like this?” the young man asked and shook his head. “It was only a few weeks ago you were sitting on my lap and kissing me.” He teased and enjoyed the shameful look on Dawn’s face as much as the sounds of disgust and shock the three girls in the other cell made.

Really Dawn?”

Kind of glad I wasn’t there to witness that.”

“Why?”

“That’s enough.” The authoritative voice of the mastermind behind the kidnapping echoed in the room. The click of his shoes echoed through the enclosure as he reached her cell Dawn stood straighter when the bald man appeared in front of her. “Hello my dearest niece,” he greeted.

“Lex,” Dawn replied, her voice cold, as she held her head high like her mother taught her.

“The similarities to my sister is immaculate. I guess that’s one of the perks of being made in a lab.” He chuckled a low, deep and grating sound that set her teeth on edge. Dawn tried to not glance at her friends. She didn’t want to see their reaction.

“What do you want, Lex?” the girl replied instead.

The man shook his head in disappointment. “Is that a way to talk to your uncle?” When the young girl didn’t reply, he continued. “Well, my dear niece, I am here to help you. Your parents have you under a spell of making you think everyone lives in harmony in this world. But of course, they lied to you just like they lie to the world. Just like you lied to your friends,” he spoke with a confident voice, walking closer to Dawn’s cell.

“Your friends already got mad at you for finding out you are a smart rich girl who could have helped them not fail school or pay their parents very expensive health bills that almost left them homeless.” he continued, and Dawn glanced at her friends with worry. “I wonder how they will react when they will find out about your other secret,” his degrading voice repeated in her ears.

We already know she’s queer, ” Julie yelled and Alana facepalmed while Freya laughed.

Lex rolled his eyes in annoyance before moving to the said. “Let’s see how your friends will react to kryptonite.”

Kryptonite won’t harm us. It only harms Kryptonians, you fool.” Julie once again yelled loud enough to be heard through the thick glass she was trapped behind.

Can you please stop temping a mass murderer to kill us?” Alana yelled at Julie.

On the other hand, Freya just shook her head in disappointment while saying, “ Dawn is the reason we got kidnapped, but Julie will be the reason we will die. ”

“It’s not for you,” Lex said and nodded to a man close to the door. The man raised a lever that was on the wall, washing the room in bright green light.

The three girls looked at the room confused as to why Lex would use kryptonite to them. But Alana watched her scared friend falling to the floor, screaming in pain, green veins all over her body.

“Dawn!” Alana yelled and hit the glass. “ DAWN!” That got the attention of the other two girls to turn towards the taller girl and gasped as she was yelling in pain.

“I just want to show you your future. Revealing your true identity to your friends and losing it is just a small crack on the glass ceiling.” His falsely caring voice was almost believable. “Do you think in the future it will be as easy to hide who you are? How about your acting career? Do you know how hard it will be to keep your identity secret while being a famous actress?”

“Acting is mor-more of a hobby,” Dawn said through her pain.

“Hmm, but have you considered how hard it will be to find a partner that will accept you as an alien and even worse an alien that is so powerful. They will always have the thought in the back of their head that one day you might sneeze and break the world in half.” Lex continued.

“Why are you doing this?” Dawn asked, trying not to cry from the pain.

“I just want to be a good uncle and spare you from future heartbreak. It’s called tough love,” he stated. “It’s how your mother and I were raised,” he added with a smug smile.

Dawn chuckled through her pain. “I don’t think your plan works,” she told him, glancing at her worried friends behind the evil man.

The three girls kept banging on the glass wall, trying to make them stop hurting Dawn, but all they got was a frown from Lex. The bald man motioned to his goon to turn off the kryptonite and walked closer to the three girls. “Interesting.”

“You need to have more faith in people,” Dawn said between coughs. “Me being smart enough to help them at school almost broke us apart, but me being an alien,” she shook her head and slowly stood, “that won’t bother them as much.” she shrugged.

“I guess you are right about your friends,” Lex said with a low hum. “Let’s move to lesson two then. Heroes always lose the people who they love,” he said in a smug voice and snapped his fingers. Suddenly the glass cell the three girls have been in started filling with water.

“No, no no no noo,” Dawn yelled and walked as close as she could to the bars. She watched the water filling the glass box quickly and her friends panicking. She was trying to figure out a way to save them but her head was throbbing, her ears were ringing, and she was pretty sure she’d broken wrist.

“I wonder if the super friends will find you before your friends die,” Lex said with arrogance before walking to the exit, leaving Jonathan behind to make sure Dawn didn’t try anything to save her friends.

“Give it up, Luthor. You failed,” the young man proudly said while walking closer to her cell. He raised his arm and pushed his jacket back to look at his watch. “In approximately one hour, that tank will be filled with water, and your friends will drown,” he announced and laughed. But Dawn did not care what he said because he’d just given her the solution,

She took a deep breath and looked at Jonathan with sad eyes. “Please, don’t do this. I know there’s still good in you, Jonathan,” she spoke in a soft voice. She tried to ignore her confused friends.

“What are you talking about.” the young man laughed and walked close to her, but not close enough.

“I can see it, Jonathan. You are a good person. You don’t want to kill three innocent girls. Please free them.” She spoke in a soft voice once again.

The brunette laughed and took another step closer. “You are so naive, Dawn,” he snarled. “You and your family see the good in everybody because you are living in a fantasy .” He took another step closer. “There is no peace between humans and aliens. This is the real world and you need to WAKE UP, ” he shouted.

He just needed to take one more step closer.

“So what will you do? You and Lex will become a villain duo?” Dawn asked with a chuckle.

“This city isn’t big enough for two super villains,” he whispered with a smirk, taking another step closer, not wanting anyone else to hear.

“Oh, you are a villain all right,” Dawn smirked and took a step closer too. “Just not a super one!”

Jonathan scoffed and looked down at her. “What’s the difference?”

Dawn smiled before quickly raising her hand and pulling the tall man by his shirt. Catching him by surprise Dawn managed to pull him fast enough to hit his head on the bars, electricity surging through him. Her quick hands grab her watch from his wrist before she pushed herself back, falling on the ground. She was so thankful for her uncle Brainy teaching her that trick right now.

She quickly put on her watch and clicked the button to activate her super suit. “Presentation,” she announced, as her Sunlight suit covered her body.

“Shit,” he exclaimed and quickly stood and rushed to the kryptonite lever.

The anti-kryptonite suit slowly helped Dawn to get her powers back, and she knew that it would also send a signal to her family. She looked around her cell and figured out she could break through the ceiling. She took a deep breath and jumped, her fist hitting the ceiling but not enough energy to break it.

Dawn! Be careful. ” Julie yelled, and she looked at the tank, the three girls looking at her both in shock and worry.

The tall girl nodded and kneeled. She took a deep breath, felt the power within her and jumped, breaking free from the cell and clumsily landing on the ground. “I will get you out, guys, get ready.”

She walked closer to the tank when something shot her, sending her a few feet away from her friends.

“This isn’t over, cockroach,” Jonathan yelled and aimed the alien gun once again at her.

“For someone who hates aliens, you sure use a lot of alien tech.” Dawn tried to joke while standing up. She knew she wasn’t in full power yet, and the kryptonite in the air didn’t help.

She got shot three more times, leaving her on the floor tired and in pain. She saw the tall man turning up the power of the gun and aiming it once again at her. “Say goodbye to your friends,” he said with a laugh and shot at her, the power of the gun enough to push him back.

“This is going to hurt.” She said and closed her eyes. But the beam of the gun never hit her. Instead, she felt a strong body on top of her, protecting her, and when she opened her eyes, she teared up at the sight of her mom’s anti-kryptonite suit.

“Jeju.” She choked on her tears while her mother slowly helped her stand up.

“It’s okay, my little ray. You are safe,” Kara whispered while hugging her daughter.

On the other side of the room, Alex stopped Jonathan from shooting the alien gun by breaking it. “I told you to leave my sister alone,” he snarled while raising him on the air by his shirt.

“Whatcha gonna do about it, Luthor?” Jonathan said with a laugh.

Alex raised his fist, ready to smack some sense into his old friend when his mother stopped him through the coms. “ Alex, stop. He wants you to harm him. If you do, he will win. You will prove him right. ”

Alex lowered his fist but smirked. He floated to the ceiling where a chain with a hook was, and he placed the man who harmed his sister on it. The only solution was to undo his belt and fall twelve feet down to the floor, face first. “Enjoy,” he whispered before landing close to his mother and sister.

“We need to break it,” Dawn said while placing her palms on the glass, her friends doing the same. The water started coming faster into the tank.

“Okay, I will break it, you two help the girls out,” Kara stated. She waited for the girls to walk away from the glass wall and when the girls nodded she broke it. The girls floated out with the water, but Alex and Dawn made sure they wouldn't scratch themselves on the glass pieces.

“Are you okay?” Alana asked and hugged Dawn.

“I’m fine.” Dawn chuckled. Julie and Freya rushed to her too, joining the hug.

“We should head out. Can you fly?” Kara asked her daughter.

“I’m not sure,” she replied.

“Hmm. I will carry Julie and Alana. Superboy, can you carry Freya and Sunlight?” the tall woman asked, and her son nodded, standing next to a blushing Freya. “I hope that’s okay with you,” she asked the girls who nodded with huge smiles.

“Great. Hold on to us tight and close your eyes. We are going to fly quite fast,” she added and picked up the two girls. She watched as her son picked up the other girls and they shot to the air, heading to the Tower.

The group landed at the balcony and was quickly taken to the medbay where everything moved too fast for Alana, Freya, and Julie. They got a check-up, but the three of them kept an eye on Dawn who was placed on a weird bed that would magically heal her broken arm and all the other wounds she’d gotten. They watched how Dawn’s mother, the serious CEO of L-Corp hugged her with such relief and told her how proud she was of her and how she handled it.

All three of them were on beds, connected with IVs when Dawn slowly started floating in her sleep.

“She always floats when she is too relaxed,” a familiar voice said from the entrance of the medbay. Luna closed the door behind her and walked closer to her sister, slowly pushing her down to the sunbed where she curled up to her side.

“I forgot that Dawn had an identical sister for a second, and thought I was seeing double.” Julie joked, making the other girls chuckle.

“Nice to see you, Julie.” Luna coldly replied while checking her sister's vitals before moving to the monitors to the side of the room.

“Anyone have a jacket? It’s suddenly cold in here,” the shorter girl mumbled, earning a glare from Luna. “Oh come on. Why so grumpy?” she asked with a teasing voice.

“Why am I grumpy? Oh, I don’t know, let me think. After my sister had an awful month because she got drugged and accidentally revealed her identity to the world, one of her friends asked her for money to buy a really expensive car, and the others said nothing changed.” Luna started speaking with a slight anger, walking closer to the beds. “But surprise surprise, something did change because when she started showing her true self you guys got angry and blamed her for everything while it was your fault that she didn’t know about all your problems.” She pointed to Julie, who frowned.

“That’s not what happened.” Freya tried to butt in, only earning a glare from Luna.

“Really? Because she texted me exactly what happened thirty-two minutes before she got kidnapped.”

“It was just a small fight. She is our friend, and we will be by her side no matter what,” Alana stated.

“You know, Dawn always told me you are her best friend, but how could you not notice how she acted when Jonathan was manipulating her?” Luna snarled, placing her hand on the railing at the end of the bed and nearly breaking it “You call yourselves her friends, but all I see are three girls using my sister’s popula—”

“That’s enough, Luna.” Dawn’s hoarse voice got her attention, and Luna ran to her sister.

“You kuvaium !” Luna cried and hugged her sister, almost knocking her off the sunbed she was sitting on. “Don’t ever scare me like that,” she whispered with a sniff.

Dawn looked at her friends over her sister’s shoulder. They looked both embarrassed and angry as Luna’s words settled in. “You can’t get rid of me that easily,” she replied to her sister and pulled back to look at identical blue eyes. “Do you really think I would let you get my ‘youngest child’ title and privilege,” she added with a scoff, making Luna let out a wet chuckle before swatting her leg.

I was really scared. We all were,” Luna replied in kryptonese. “ I just thought if I was there I would help you .”

Dawn sighed and hugged her sister. “ Please stop beating yourself up about this catastrophic month. We both know you would have hated it if you didn’t skip grades ”

Julie leaned closer to Freya and whispered, “What are they saying?” getting a shrug from the girl that was also confused.

Can you please stop being mean to my friends now? ” Dawn asked.

Luna glanced back to the other girls before mumbling, “ No promises,” and earning an eye roll from Dawn. “I will go call Mom,” she added before quickly leaving the room.

“Are you guys okay?” Dawn asked, still sitting on the sunbed.

“We are fine, don’t worry about us,” Alana replied with a small smile. “How are you? How is your arm?”

“It’s fine, just a bit sore,” the taller girl replied while raising her arm.

“So… You are not only super pretty, super-rich, super-smart; you are also super-alien?” Julie asked, trying to lighten up the mood.

Dawn chuckled and nodded. “Yeah, I am.”

“At least now I know why you cringe whenever someone says how hot Superboy is.” Freya teased and laughed at the disgusted expression on Dawn’s face.

“I would really appreciate it if you stop saying that,” she replied, making the others laugh.

The door opened, and a few people walked in. Lena walked to her daughter to give her a tight hug and was followed by Alex who checked the other girls. Behind them, J’onn followed Kara, whispering to each other.

“So are we free to go?” Freya asked when she was finally free from the IV.

“Unfortunately, not yet,” Kara spoke and walked in front of the girls.

Julie gasped and smiled “Are we getting an autograph?”

“Jeju?” Dawn asked with worry when she noticed how serious everyone was.

“I’m sorry girls, but you cannot know our secret identities,” Kara said and crossed her arms.

“Don’t worry, Mrs Luthor-Danvers. We won’t tell a soul,” Alana promised and the other girls nodded.

“You have to wipe their memory, don’t you?” Dawn asked with sadness, and Kara looked at her daughter and nodded with a sigh.

“I’m sorry, what?” Julie asked in shock.

“Don’t worry, girls. We won’t really remove the memories. We would alter any memory that pinpoints that the Luthor-Danvers are actually Kryptonian,” J’onn informed the girls.

“So you will keep everything else from today?” Alana asked and J’onn nodded.

“What will you replace it with?” Julie asked.

“Well, both Dawn and Sunlight will be there, separate, and also the reason for kidnapping was a general hate from Lex towards his sister,” the man informed them

“Okay.” Alana was the first to answer and the other girls nodded in agreement. “But you need to promise us when you reveal yourself it won’t be traumatising,” she jokingly said to Dawn who nodded with a chuckle before hugging them.

“I promise the reveal will be awesome,” the tall girl replied before letting them go. “See you tomorrow,” she said with a smile.

Dawn was fiddling with her fingers as the car slowed down outside her school. “What if they are still angry with me?” she mumbled.

“After yesterday.” Lena shook her head. “They might be angry with you today, but they will calm down and come back to you. You will talk and figure things out, and when that happens, you can invite them to come home for a sleepover,” she said and held her daughter’s hand.

“Really?” Dawn gasped with a smile and hugged her mom when she said yes.

“Be careful, okay?” Lena called out as Dawn climbed out of the car.

The young ravenette waved at her mom before heading into the building. She headed straight to the class, not sure if she should look for her friends or not. She sat at her seat, scrolling on her phone when suddenly, the door opened, and her friends walked in.

“Dawn!” She heard Alana call her and look up to the girl who rushed to her. The girl hugged her before she could stand up. “I was so worried after yesterday's events.”

“Yeah, who would have thought Lex wasn’t only anti-alien but also homophobic,” Freya said with an eye roll while hugging Dawn.

“I’m glad you are okay, Eliton.” Julie said and hugged her. “Sorry, I’m just used to it,” she said when letting go, so used to calling Dawn by her last name. “Luthor-Danvers is a bit of a mouthful.” She shrugged.

“You can call me either of those if you want. I don’t mind,” she replied while fiddling with her phone. “So, are you not mad at me anymore?”

Julie scratched the back of her neck and shook her head. “I’m still a bit annoyed because you could have helped me all this time but..” she shrugged. “I guess you can make up for the lost time by giving me free math lessons,” she tried to tease, but Dawn could see the hope behind Julie’s brown eyes.

“As long as you guys promise to actually come to me if you need help.” She raised her pinky and the three girls chuckled and connected their pinky with Dawn. “Do you guys think we will go back to how we were before you found out who I was?” she asked with a worried voice.

“It will be a rocky road, but I think we will get there,” Julie replied with a smile. “Plus, you are the only one who can help Freya whenever she has an outfit panic,” she added with an eye roll, and Freya swatted her arm.

DAWN! ” someone yelled, making the four girls jump. Daniel was at the entrance of the classroom with James. He rushed to her and hugged her, almost making both of them fall to the floor. “I was so worried when I read this morning your unc- I mean Lex kidnapped you.” He spoke quickly before pulling back and holding her by her shoulders. “Are you okay?”

“I’m okay, don’t worry,” she replied with a small smile.

“You know we also got kidnapped too.” Julie pointed out.

Daniel just waved at her in a dismissive way. “Yeah, but you weren’t in real danger.”

“We were in a tank that was slowly filling with water,” Julie pointed. “Ouch,” she exclaimed when Freya elbowed her.

“I’m sorry, what?” James exclaimed and walked closer to his girlfriend. “You said you were in a cell where you just listen to Lex talking for hours,” he stated with a worried expression.

Dawn watched at how her friends bickered with each other, reminding her of how her mothers bickered with their friends and making her smile. She loved this group, and she was so happy she is still in it.

“Are you okay?” Kara asked and placed her hand on her wife’s knee.

“Yeah.” She cleared her throat and sniffed. She felt her wife’s hand brushing her wet cheek. “It’s just, Dawn just sent me this picture, and I’m so happy,” she said and showed the picture to her wife. “She has a whole friend group. Something I never had until I met you,” she added and cuddled close to her wife. “I’m so happy for her,” she whispered and let her tears roll down her cheeks.

Kara hugged Lena, a huge smile on her face since now she knows it’s happy tears. “You know our other kids have friends too, right?” she asked, making her chuckle.

“I know,” Lena mumbled with a chuckle. “Just let me have this,” she added and cuddled closer.
