Chapter 4
As Steven drove you home you fell back asleep this time you fell asleep on Spinel's lap (mostly because she pulled you into her lap) Spinel combed through your hair as she hummed a soft tune.
Steven sighed "Spinel why don't you take a break go back to your home in Little Homeworld for a bit, I can watch Y/N since it seems like she's going to sleep most of the day" he said keeping his eyes on the road, Spinel frowned still combing through your hair "I can't leave her Steven she still needs help, plus aren't you busy? usually your running around Little Homeworld like a Pearl without an owner" Steven laughed nervously "yeah... but today and tomorrow I'm free with the Gems covering the weekend classes I have some time on my hands" Spinel looked down at you as you snuggled closer mumbling "warm..." Spinel smiled for a moment at you.
Then frowned thinking as she was looking down at you 'I should trust that Steven can look after Y/N, while I check on things at my home yet, why can't I leave her alone? why can't I be calm with the thought of leaving you with Steven' Spinel sighed 'maybe it's because I'm a Spinel or the fact I lost my friend without really saying goodbye...I wish I knew' Spinel thought to herself combing through your hair.

You woke up partially too tired to move but you were wake enough to feel Spinel carrying you and put you in bed. After she tucked you in you snuggled under the covers with a light sigh "thanks..." you said feeling a bit more relaxed being in bed underneath the warmth of the comforters.
You then see Spinel smile, as you close your eyes you felt something soft and warm press against your forehead, along with what felt like Spinel's fingers through your hair, "night Y/N" Spinel said softly you then hear her walk out of the room as you slowly fell asleep feeling more at then you've felt in a long time.
The next day you wake up to Steven gingerly nudging you and Spinel next to him. Steven then asked "hey Y/N how are you feeling today?" you sighed trying to sit up "sick" you said coughing a wheezing.
Steven frowned "well I picked up a egg sandwich for you to eat on the way to the appointment" you took the sandwich seeing it was a toasted egg sandwich from the Big Donut which normally you didn't mind eating but your stomach was still having issues with eating certain things.
Yet you didn't want to burden Steven by making him get something else so you merely ate what you could handle.
Spinel yawned a bit as she helped you to Steven's car. Spinel was about to get in the car with you but was stopped by Steven, "you should head home Spinel you look exhausted" you looked up at Spinel seeing that she did look rather tired yet she still looked worried.
You didn't notice before while she was caring for you though you were busy being incredibly sick, 'I guess gems need rest too' you thought to yourself feeling guilty for tiring out Spinel.
You sighed with a slight wheeze "Spinel you should take a break, Steven can handle helping me for a bit" Spinel frowned looking around a bit but nodded "ok b-but I'll be tomorrow bright and early to help out or even just to hang out" she said with a smile. You laughed coughing slightly "o-ok, ok see you tomorrow Spinel" you said with a smile
Steven got you to the doctor's office where Steven helped check in which it took an hour to wait while you waited Steven nudged you gingerly "so, you and Spinel seem to be getting along" you fold your arms looking away from him "I...I don't know... she's just been really... nice, I don't if it's because of what kind of gem she is yet... it's been awhile since I felt any kind of... 'joy' so... I don't know" you started coughing Steven rubbed your back "well after this how about I help you make plans to hang out with Spinel some time" you felt embarrassed about thinking about hanging out with her on top of knowing you recently had an odd dream about her, which you immediately covered you face, then the nurse came in.
Once the nurse finally took you back they took the x-ray as quickly as a picture, the doctor told you "will take about 40 mins to go over your x-ray in the mean time you can go back to the waiting room" you sighed 'great'
You laid on the bed in the waiting room waiting for results, then Steven's phone began to ring "oh that's Connie but I can all her back" you groaned "go talk to your girlfriend, I'll still be here when you get back" Steven smiled "ok Y/N I'll try to make it quick" he ran outside the door and immediately called her back just outside the door talking to his girlfriend while you tried to sleep.
Though you couldn't help but remember how you and your girlfriend would call each all the time, though unlike all the other times you thought about your girlfriend you then think to yourself 'I wonder how Spinel is doing?' as you fell asleep.
You were woken up by the doctor who practically made you jump "s-sorry" she stuttered "s-so what's t-the results?" you said rubbing your face.
The doctor frowned "before I say anything do you want your friend to hear this?" you sighed "let him in" Steven walked back in "so what's up is Y/N ok?" Steven asked putting his phone in his pocket.
The doctor sighed "I'm sorry to say, but it seems you have lung cancer" you sat up as best as you could "what?" Steven stepped forward towards the doctor "you have to be able to treat her right? medication or surgery something" the doctor shook her head "I'm sorry but the cancer is already progressed to the final stage, my diagnosis now is that you have less then a 2 months to live, I'm so sorry Y/N"
Steven took you home though on the drive over you were quiet at first thinking about how little time you had now with Steven with...Spinel.
You tried to think positive 'maybe I could try to get a second opinion, or see if they can give me medicine to give me more time... but maybe that would be wasting what time I have in the hospital, god all I want is too have Spinel here to talk to about this, is this how she felt scared confused not knowing' thats when you started to laugh Steven looked at you confused "what are you laughing at Y/N?" you sat up as best as you could "the cancer that took my girlfriend away is now going to kill me" you laughed but it ended in a bit of a cough "isn't ironic Steven" you started to cry a little "I just... just wished it happened s-sooner" that's when Steven pulled the car over.
He got out opened the door and rubbed your back trying to console you as you started to cry more "Y/N you shouldn't say that, there are plenty of reasons to live plus will fix this" you shook your head "no, it's j-just... before...before I met Spinel everything seemed... pointless after Abby passed" you hesitated with what to say next then sighed "I-I honestly d-didn't want to go on with living" Steven's eyes got wide "why didn't you say anything? we could have talked more" you shrugged "but...b-but Spinel then things got a bit... brighter, and I don't know what to say to her about this, she already lost her bestfriend in the worst way" Steven frowned "well would you prefer I tell her? to be honest I think it would be best if she knows about this vs just leaving Spinel out of the loop" he said trying to look at you in the eyes you looked away but nodded feeling conflicted though you knew it would be best if she knew, even if you couldn't tell her directly.

Once Spinel heard this she her limbs became like limb cooked spaghetti noodles "but... but... Y/N is so young... and I was doing all I could to help..." Spinel said tears in her eyes. Steven sighed "well her family is already making...arrangements, as well as collecting money for her f-" Steven said but was by Spinel stomping her foot making him flinch.
At first Spinel was silent making Steven fearful, then she spoke softly "I...I wanna talk to Y/N about this maybe she changed her mind about... certain things" Steven's eyes got wide "Spinel please you can't force her to get heal by me, it wouldn't be right" Spinel shook her head "no...no I'm not going to force her Universe, but I want Y/N to know that there are people who do care about her" Steven smiled sadly "like you?" she nodded.
Spinel made a mad dash to your house all the way to your room, "hey Y/N I heard you were back from the hospital and... needed some company" you laughed "Steven told you?" Spinel nodded, she then held your hand gingerly.

This caught you off guard but you couldn't help but let her, as she had tears in her eyes "Y/N I...I realize your human and you won't live as long as me being a gem and all, but I want you around a bit longer I want us to enjoy New Years together and party's and-" you stopped her pulling on her hand seeing Spinel's tears continue to roll down her cheeks "Spinel...is this your way of asking me to let Steven heal me?" Spinel kneeled at your bed looking away from you looking guilty "maybe" you sighed not really blaming her for trying to convince you to let Steven heal you "I don't know if I can say yes right now" Spinel smiled putting a hand on your forehead "I understand Y/N now you get some sleep" at first you wanted to say awake but you couldn't keep your eyes open. As you closed your eyes though you felt your heart become slower scaring you only for a moment until everything went dark.

Spinel smiled seeing you that her plan worked she only tried it once on 'Cat Steven' making him fall asleep but it seem to work the same.
Through Spinel was delighted all the same to hear you said yes to having Steven heal you (even if you didn't want it now you technically said yes in Spinel's mind).
Spinel ran back as quick as she could to Steven's house shouting at the top of her voice "Steven! Steven! Steven!" Steven looked at her confused seeing her burst through the door "what? what? what is it Spinel?" Spinel looked at him with excitement "she said yes Y/N said she wants you to heal her" Steven looked at Spinel unconvinced "are you sure?" Spinel nodded "positive, now come on before she changes her mind" she said excitedly.
Spinel and Steven get to your home where you were seemly sleeping soundly, "maybe we should wait until she wakes up" Steven said walking towards the door. Spinel stretched herself out making a sort wall blocked his path "please Steven she really wanted this, Y/N um... m-must of fallen asleep when I went to get you so don't leave ...please," Spinel looked at him with a pleading look, Steven sighed walking back to you kissing your forehead looking less like a prince waking a princess from their slumber and more like just wanting to get the 'job' done and over with.
However nothing happened except your arm flopping over the edge of the bed, Steven gasped putting his head on your chest.
Spinel gasped "oh oh stars... what's wrong isn't she j-just asleep?" Steven started crying "s-she's dead... she must have passed away when stars" Spinel pulled on her pigtails "no... no no no please there has to be way to fix this, fix this Universe please please" Steven looked down at you still unmoving.
Though as he did Steven noticed his tears dripped on your body as it did your whole body glowed pink, Steven stepped back knowing all too well what he just did.
