Escape
Time flies so fast.
It’s been so long that everything went blur. Life goes on after that unexpected break-up. Everything still run as they should— except Yumeko.
Of course. She will mourn for what she had lost. She just lost the love of her life. But reality came crushing down her skull, making her realize that she was never been hers.
Everything turned monochrome. The stars in her sky dimmed upon losing her remaining light but she fights her own hand upon grabbing the same hands who made her warm in the cold breezy evening. Yumeko is goner when she left.
Even after that huge blow, Yumeko really tried her best to move forward even it will cost every part of herself. There are the times that she still misses the blonde girl, wondering if Mary would miss her like she did. She has this silly coping mechanism— Yumeko will plant an ugly thought on her grieving mind, thinking that Mary came back to her real love of her life. It was effective at first— Of course, it made Yumeko cry in the middle of nowhere.
Sometimes she would grieve about it. There are also the times that she would rage about it— blaming the universe for making her experience this kind of love. Is this her punishment from ruining her opponent’s life?
Maybe it is, she thought wistfully. Maybe this is a payback.
Yumeko tried to enter a normal university. She tried to get rid of everything that may trace back to her old life. This is so out of character of her but the pain she felt change her into someone she couldn’t even recognize. She even tried to change her whole identity by dyeing her hair into her favorite color— looking good with ginger hair but sooner realizes she look so dumb.
Some of her old friends tried to reconnect with her after that cruel graduation but she decides to cut them off.
Later on— she just simply gives up. She just let the nature made her forget about her first real love.
It is her second day of school here at her chosen university away from her previous life. Yumeko kind of despises the idea of normalcy but for the sake of change— she did.
Sometimes she craves for danger, the risk of falling into despair but remembering the last time she receive a cruel defeat— Yumeko hated to gamble again. Somehow she matured a lot— not everything is fun and gambling. She needs to get a life too.
As she strolls through the quadrangle, searching for her next room— she noticed a familiar face.
And her heart froze upon seeing the person for the first time in awhile.
Who would have thought that she would see the girl who just broke her heart years ago?
Still beautiful as ever. The said girl caught a glimpse of her, earning a double look from her.
“..Yume,” Mary mouthed in disbelief.
There is a clear shock written on her face. And then, Mary’s eyes twinkled in familiarity and warmth. It scared Yumeko to death. She.. she won’t let herself to melt again with those eyes.
Her old promise resonated in her ears suddenly. It made her ache painfully.
When Mary was about to approach her, Yumeko decided to ignore the gnawing feeling of longing.
They are already done.
Yumeko decided to run away.
