Behind The Scene

Ten minutes feel like hours when sitting in silence waiting for possible bad news. Manager Sejing has been gone for almost half an hour, and even though they were able to stay busy within the first twenty minutes, anxiety got to their heads pretty quickly without them being able to do anything about it. You can then easily imagine how startled all of them are when, without a warning, both he and Mrs. Kim barge into the room, undecipherable expressions on both their faces.

Immediately standing up, our twelve young adults instinctively go back to the line they were standing in when the CEO was still in the room yelling at them about an hour ago.

Not daring to say anything, all of them just stand still, looking at the two newcomers, who don't seem to be in such a good mood. Both of them looking at each other as if they are trying to decide which one would break some kind of horrible news to the young people isn't helping to make them relax. Finally, after two forever-lasting minutes, Sejing takes a step forward, looking at each one of them dead in the eyes.

"I'm really sorry guys..."

With those five words only, our five protagonists were ready to cry and run away out of shame, and the Enhypen guys weren't feeling any better.

"We tried as much as we could, I promise"

Mrs Kim's teary eyes as she tries to keep going break Jake's last straw as he tries to rush out of the room as angry as ever, him who is always so calm and composed

"- Jake stay here we are not done

- What do you mean stay here ?! They are our friends, and I can't just stand still while they are being thrown away like garbage for absolutely nothing. I'm going to fucking burn Dispatch and this whole company.

- Who said they were being thrown away like garbage?"

Kai, who was already going to join Jake in an attempt to calm him down, stops halfway before turning to the person who just voiced this sentence.

Sejing pulls his phone from the transparent sleeve it was in, a malicious grin on his face, and turns it to them. At the sight of the recording camera, it is as if all of their brains lagged simultaneously.

"CANDID CAMERA!"

The huge smiles on both the manager's and the head stylist's faces bring them back to reality, as they all are in between crying and throwing hands at the two adults in front of them.

"Know that I hate you both"

Everyone agrees with the sentence Arya just lets out as they all start to leave the room, feeling kind of num.

"- Wait guys, don't you want to celebrate ?

- Hyung, are you kidding? It's not as if they almost got fired for celebrating

- I know Heesung. But who said we couldn't celebrate indoors?

- Why don't we go to you guys' loft? I didn't saw a lot of it last time because Meri- Ouch"

The not-so-romantic Kabe don* from Meri surprised Jay who hit his head against the wall. Leaning closer to his ear, she whispers,

"It is as if you don't remember what I told you earlier. Don't talk about me, don't look at me, don't even think about me, or you're fucking dead, Park Jeong Seong. Don't say I didn't warn you."

Turning around, she immediately heads out without saying anything, her four friends right behind her as they apologize for the fuss.

After a whole minute of awkward silence, they all head out since they are still expected to work.

In the corridor, Jungwon, who is walking next to Jay, is trying to cheer him up a little.

"Give her some time, Hyung, and maybe try to apologize once you feel like she is more open to conversation."

He only nods, not having the time to answer as they have already reached the studio for the introduction of the following month's planning.

On the opposite side of the building, Mrs. Kim enters the office of the fashion area, where the five interns are waiting for her in silence.

"Let's forget about all of that and focus on work, alright?"

They all nod as they all head to the workshop, where some outfits for the end-of-year award shows are starting to be designed.

The emotional roller-coaster of the morning made the whole day look pretty chill and it is with a much lighter heart that our five protagonists walk to the HYBE's building's hall in order to go back home at almost 7.30 p.m.

"- I'm not going home with you guys, says Ailen with a quiet voice

- Where are you going? wonders Kai

- Jinhwa wanted to take me out to try her favorite sushi place

- Oh my god, you are going on a date ??

- Quieter Nai ! And no, it's not a date!

- You are blushing like crazy love, it is totally a date, adds Arya"

Ailen doesn't have time to debate any longer as a familiar voice is calling her name from outside.

"- Hey Ailen! Hey guys!

- Hello Jinwha, they all answer in unison

- Ready to eat some amazing sushi, Ailen?

- I sure am.

- Then, if you can excuse us guys, we are on our way"

After wishing their friends a good meal, our four friends head to the kombini next to the company in order to find their dinner, without even realizing that someone was less than 50 meters behind them.

"You guys can have a fifteen minutes break"

Drenched in sweat, the Enhypen guys immediately head to the bathroom on the second floor. When going out of the elevator, they almost bumped into Mrs. Kim with a kind of diary in her hands.

"Oh my, guys, your timing couldn't be any better. Ailen forgot her diary in the workshop. I was about to try and catch her, as they just left and are probably still in the hall, but the others are waiting for me; could one of you run down there to give it to her?"

Taking ten seconds to process the monologue of the head stylist, Heesung happily nods as he takes the diary... before giving it to Sunghoon.

"- She found your earbuds, and you found her diary, how romantic is that?"

- What do you mean, romantic?

- Come on, Hyung, says Niki, you might be the only one not realizing how much of a crush she has on you.

- Enough talking or you will miss her, interrupts Sunoo. What are you waiting for ? Hurry !"

Not questioning any longer, his brain still having some trouble processing the whole situation, the black-haired rushes downstairs, where, thank God, the five friends still are. Walking closer to them, he realizes that they are in the middle of teasing the young American, whose cheeks are, by the way, scarlet.

"You are blushing like crazy love, it is totally a date"

"A date? Is Ailen having a date?"

Interrupting the young man's thoughts, a tall and quite pretty woman enters the building, calling out for the black girl. Completely frozen for some unknown reasons, he doesn't even remember the diary he is supposed to give, and it is only when he is left alone in the hall that he realizes he kind of messed up the mission that was given to him.

It is with a heavy mind and heart that he goes back to the bathroom, where his members are still taking a shower. Coming out first with his jog on and a towel around his neck, Jake can't help but interrogate his friends with his eyes.

Putting the diary next to his water bottle in order to not forget it, he heads to a shower cabin, simply saying,

"She was already gone"

(*) the action of blocking someone between the wall and one's body in a romantic way
