Because of a schedule, Jake had already left when Kai finally decides to return to his friends, either ten or twenty minutes later. The singer took the time to run to the fitting room, wishing that Arya was still there in order to tell her about her friend so she wouldn't have to worry. He didn't have time to say anything else before his leader came, pressing him to come to the practice room. And so, when the Hawaiian opens the door of the storage room, the first thing he sees is the backs of his four friends, sitting in silence in the corridor with a worried expression on their faces. The grinding of the old door startles them all as they turn in a single movement toward the noise, only to find the brown-haired standing there with puffy red eyes.
Ailen is the first to move, as she calmly yet quickly walks toward Kai, embrassing him in a tight hug.
"We are here, Kai; everything will be fine."
When they finally break down the contact, all five of them are standing next to each other, not wanting to be too intrusive by asking questions about what exactly happened. When her stomach grumbles in protest of the twelve hours she has fasted, Nai suggests they go get something to eat since it is lunchtime.
The Hybe building is larger than it appears from the outside; the entire first floor is divided into multiple dining options. Between the cafe, the fast food and the organic fusion restaurant, it is always a headache to choose where you are going to eat. Since it is already their fourth day at the company, our little group has already eaten at all three options, and their favorite has to be the organic fusion. But it is also the most expensive, and, as students, they can't exactly allow themselves to eat for 8.000 won of food at every meal. They finally fall back on the cafe, where they each take a sandwich made of a croissant, the IT menu of the day.
The silence at the table is deafening, and every eyes are on Kai, who is focused on his plate and hasn't said anything since their reunion. After five minutes of a suffocating wait, Meri finally breaks the silence in a gentle yet firm voice.
"We are not going to force you to tell us anything, but understand that we are worried, so if you could just tell us how you feel or maybe if we can help. Like, do I need to beat someone's ass for you? If yes, I'm so ready, and I'm bringing Arya with me!"
The sparkles in the ginger's eyes as she talks about fighting make them all smile, even Kai, who, after a sigh, finally answers.
"- I think I just need to figure everything out. It was all so sudden that I don't think I have processed it yet. But thank you for being here for me; I am so not used to this.
- It's okay, says Arya; we will help you as much as we can. So feel free to come and ask if you need any advice. Not that I am any kind of expert in this field, but I read a lot of books, so you know."
They all nod. The Indian made a good point here: books help a lot when it comes to understanding the world and humans.
The rest of their lunch takes place in a mood as good as it can be after someone just had their heart broken, and it is when the clock hits 1.30 pm that they all stand up and walk towards the fashion floor.
Mrs. Kim (the head stylist) let them know that the long-awaited filming of One in a Billion will take place on the weekend. She is well aware that their first week of internship comes to an end tomorrow (Friday), but she would like them to come, at least on Saturday, in order to see how a shooting session for an MV goes.
"Of course, you don't have to come, as it is not mandatory in your studies. But for your personal and professional knowledge, it could come in handy to know how it all takes place."
After telling their tutor that they will think about it and let her know tomorrow, they all head to the stylist's office to make the final arrangements for the weekend. Friday will be a busy day as they will have to prepare all the suitcases with the outfits for the shooting and, at least, triple check them. As One in a Billion is for the promotion of their webtoon, the members won't appear a lot, but they have at least three different outfits each. Multiply this by seven members, and you have a lot of suitcases. Of course, this means that they won't be able to meet the Enhypen's members either before Saturday or in two weeks.
Looking at all the papers on the table and the tabs open on the three different computers, Nai can't help but exclaim.
"- I wonder how the hell the Seventeen's stylists have any time to even breath
- They are twice as many people, but they still have a hard time, answers Mrs. Kim with a laugh. I will take you to visit them one day if we have time."
None of them is able to retain the almost-scream of joy that comes out the second they hear about visiting the Pledis side of Hybe, making their tutor smile even more. Even Kai, who was still depressed until then, almost forgot about his problems while thinking about Seventeen's outfit.
Don't get them wrong; they are not those crazy types of fans who faint when it comes to seeing their favs shirts. No, here it is the fashion designer inside of them who is speaking and crying in joy. Think about it: thirteen gorgeous, perfectly designed, matching but not overly similar outfits - heaven on Earth.
But anyway, let's get back to all the papers on the table and the tabs open on the three different computers. Actually, let's skip the boring part (which will last the entire afternoon) and jump right to when they get home.
Instinctively, after putting down their belongings in their own rooms, the five of them head to the living room, where they sit down around the small table. Ailen doesn't even have time to put the snacks on the small plates before they all jump on them. Eating in silence, the urge to tell everyone what happened with the Enhypen members itches every single one of them, even Kai. Kai, whose broken heart may have shaken him so much that he doesn't even let his tissues float around the room; instead, he puts them in his pocket. What a miracle.
Anyway, no longer holding it in, Nai slams the table.
"Guys, I have to tell you something..."
And just like that, everything that had happened during the past three chapters was unfolding. They each take turns telling, for example, how annoying Jay and Heesung were or how Jungwon couldn't stop staring at Nai's eyes while Sunghoon was clueless about Ailen's crush on him. They're giggling like high school students talking about the new attractive student when the mood shifts.
"I'm sorry, but I will have to ruin the mood."
When Kai's turn comes, the short-haired feels the tears in his eyes. He wipes them quickly before starting to tell his story. How he and Chris met, became friends, and eventually got together, as well as their disagreements about how they see the future and their eventual breakup. He finally tells them about how Jake found him in the storage room, about an hour before they did.
"He was really nice to me. I hope I will be able to thank him for that."
At that moment, when all of them finally head to their room after saying good night, little do they know that things might take a slightly different turn...
