Let´s take it slow

The full moon came, and with it, the Addams came back from their trip. They bought presents, quite a lot, and Enid was kind of overwhelmed about it. She knew they were rich, but even so, she felt embarrassed. Gómez told them all about their adventures, with Morticia adding details here and there, bright smiles in their faces. It was lovely. But everything broke down when Enid’s phone rang, showing her mom's name. She grew paler every passing second, and tears began to form in the corner of her eyes.

-Of course she would wait for the full moon to call me.

-Don't answer -Wednesday said, angrily, looking at the device as if she was ready to crush it.

-She can't just ignore them, my little viper. They're her family.

-I... I don't know if I want to answer, honestly-the call ended, returning a few seconds after.

-We're with you, Enid. Go ahead-Morticia encouraged, patting her knee.

-Okay...-after a deep breath she answered -Hello, mother.

-WHERE ARE YOU? WE HAVEN'T SEEN YOUR WOLF AND YET YOU'RE STILL MISSING WITH THAT CHILDISH ATTITUDE IN FULL MOON? HAVEN'T WE WAITED ENOUGH?

-Yes mother I'm fine, thanks for asking-she felt a strong grip on her hand, and looked that way. Wednesday was there, her eyes full of rage and her jaw tense. She moved her hand slowly, intertwining their fingers.

-Don't be ridiculous, child.

-Ridiculous? Guess I got it from you-she smiled at the proud gesture of her friend -I'm not coming back just for you to see my wolf. I'm not a pet, I'm a person, and you will start to treat me like that or stop treating me at all.

-I'm your mother.

-Yes. Act like it.

-Where are you? -she changed the subject, still louder than a normal conversation.

-Oh suddenly you care? -she snapped, angrily, her claws coming out without permission. She scratched the goths hand, but didn't noticed, and the girl didn't even flinch.

-Enid, if you're okay with it, I will take it from here-Morticia stood up, offering her hand for the device.

-WHO´S THAT?

-Are you sure? -she ignored her mom, looking at the woman.

-Yes. I think this calls for adult intervention, explaining how and why are you here-she smiled softly, and after a few seconds, the blonde gave her the phone. She turned off the speaker and put it to her ear -Good evening, Ms. Sinclair, I'm Morticia Addams...-she walked calmly, leaving the room.

-Uggggh I can't stand her-the werewolf broke, hiding her face behind her hands, letting Wednesday go.

-Enid. Let's go upstairs, mother is perfectly capable of controlling this situation-she tugged her a little bit, and the taller one obeyed.

-It will be okay, lobita, don't worry -Gómez reassured.

-Thank you. Really-she flashed a sad smile before following, Wednesday grabbing her sleeve.

Once they arrived to the blonde’s room, she jumped on the bed, hiding her face in the pillow, tears running free. She was SO frustrated, and sad, and angry, all at the same time. She heard her friend walk towards her bathroom, and looked up just in time to notice the tiny strings of blood going down her fingers. She stood up, cursing her damned claws, and waited, hugging a stuffed animal tightly. A minute after, she came back, her hand covered with a white bandage and blank expression being slightly disrupted by a hint of worry and anger. Enid didn't notice she had stopped crying.

-Are you okay?

-I'll be-she cleaned her face with her sleeve, sitting and left the stuffy to the side, hoping that she would take it as an invitation. And she did. Slowly, like a curious animal, she climbed the bed with just one knee, partially straddling her lap, and hugged her.

-You can trust my mother-she reassured, with a slightly softer voice -You're safe here.

The blonde remembered her conversation with Yoko. What did she say again? That she should just enjoy, right? And so, she did, tightening her grip, forcing the girl to jump on her to maintain balance, straddling her and with both hands on her shoulders. She inhaled her scent, ink, chemicals and flowers, and relaxed. And after a few seconds, the other relaxed too, adjusting herself on her lap and hugging her with a soft sight. Slowly, as if scared of startling her, Enid pushed a little, just enough to look at her eyes, and took her injured hand.

-How bad is it?

-Barely considered a wound, just a little scratch-the bandages hid them, so she had no option but to trust her words.

-I'm sorry-she took it to her lips, and kissed her knuckles. The flash of red that appeared on her friend's cheeks was more than obvious.

-Don't apologize. You felt distress, your body reacted. I just happened to be in the way. It was an accident-she climbed off, clearly overwhelmed, and stood a step away -Go wash your face, it's covered in tears and makeup. I'll be waiting downstairs.

-Oh. Okay-she watched the girl leave after a small nod, and bit her lip while heading to the bathroom -Too much, Enid-she whispered, closing the door -Too much!

-Control yourself-the goth whispered, heading to the stairs at the speed of light -This is pathetic. I'm turning into my father.
__________

Night came, and with it, the nervousness of the blonde grew. She was pacing at the garden, under the Addams eyes. Not judgmental or disappointed, but curious and supportive. It was definitely a new experience. Morticia didn't told her what she had agreed with her family, but made sure she knew her decision of staying for the break was respected. "Everybody is a puppet when you know where the strings are, my child" she said, with her usual elegant posture and mysterious smile. And that’s all she got. Now, with the moon getting closer, she started to feel her guts tighten.

-What if I can't wolf out? What if it was just a one-time thing?

-Wolfs are powerful beasts, pequeña. Once they get to taste the outside, they will come back -Gomez patted her back -We are here for you, Enid, don't you worry.

She looked at Wednesday, who just nodded, and sighed. She would love a hug right now, but since her "too much" move, the shorter one had been avoiding contact just as much as usual. She was worried about it. Baby steps were perfect; her rushing things was just pulling them apart. She might have to build that castle from scratch again, and that killed her. But for now, she had more important things to worry about. She felt it, growing, hurting her from the inside, and growled. Thing was quick, grabbing her coat and helping her to take it off before the transformation started. Knowing that anything she was wearing would be ripped to pieces, she just wore the clothes she took from her house, a small gesture that meant a lot for her. Well, except her shoes. She loved those shoes. And her bra. Those were too expensive to just break them like that. So there, barefoot on the grass, she fell to her knees, hearing and feeling her bones readjusting, breaking and growing. It hurt bad, really bad, and so she screamed to the top of her lungs, and it changed to a pained howl in just a few seconds. Once the transformation was complete, she looked at her hands, now claws, and stood on her back paws. It felt different than the first time. Calmer. She wasn't on a rescue mission, so she could just bath into the feeling of a new form, a new spirit. She looked around, yellow eyes gentle and sweet just as hers, and looked at the family.

-Cool-Pugsley whispered.

-Há! Magnificent, pequeña! -Gómez exclaimed, arms open and big smile.

-What a beautiful wolf you are, Enid. And quite big! -Morticia got a step closer, and the beast sat down, trying to look at her face to face -You're free to run, howl and hunt for as long as you need. We'll wait for you inside-she nodded, and the woman patted her cheek, her hand suddenly small compared to her head -We'll leave your coat at the entrance of the woods.

-There's no need -Wednesday intervened -I’ve decided to move my cello practice outside. I'll wait for her return here.

-Oh. As you wish. Then, go, child. We'll see you later.

Enid howled, and heard some far away responses. Curious about them, the beast wanted to go check, and so she obliged, her powerful limbs lunching her full speed though the trees. The family left, only for the girl to return not soon after, with Lurch carrying her instrument and a bag on her own hand.
____________

She finished her practice, went in for a quick snack, and went back outside, playing a few songs by memory. Just when getting in and waiting for the wolf inside started to sound way too tempting, she heard a rumble. Shyly, the girl spoke.

-Hey Wens. Do you...do you have my clothes?

-Yes, here-she grabbed the bag and the coat, hanging from a branch, and walked into the woods.

-Thanks-the blonde was trembling, cold night air playing with her hair, full of dirt and leaves.

-Forget it. Get dressed inside-the girl took off her own coat, much longer, and quickly wrapped it around her-It’s too cold to wait.

-Okay-she buttoned before helping with the goths stuff, carrying everything inside. Lurch was quick to grab it all the second they stepped inside the house. Silently, they followed him upstairs. Once everything was in place, the blonde headed to her room -I’m gonna take a shower real quick, I can feel the dirt on my skin-she shrugged-Gross.

-It's just dirt, Enid-Wednesday walked past her, and sat on her bed.

-Being covered in dirt, or blood, or...anything, is not my thing-she grabbed the clothes the goth had prepared for her from the bag, and looked at her with curiosity -You gonna wait for me here?

-If it's okay.

-Yeah, sure! I'll be fast, promise! -once she was already inside the bathroom, she took off the girl's coat and opened the door just enough for it to fit between the gap-Hey, Wednesday? Hope it's not too dirty.

-Don't worry about it-she walked towards it with quick steps and grabbed it looking at the floor, her cheeks a soft red.

-Okay, give me 10 minutes!

And so, she waited, patiently. She laid down, looking at the wooden roof above the bed, covered in plastic stars that glowed slightly in the dark. She thought it could be...cute, of Enid’s liking, and she bought them and recreated real constellations for her. When the girl came out, she was too focused on them to notice, and got startled when she approached. She couldn't sit before the wolf just laid next to her, big smile on her face and hair still wet. Her scars looked a little redder from the warm water, and Wednesday touched them slightly with one finger.

-Better without the dirt?

-Much better-she couldn't breathe properly, surprised by the gentle touch.

-It was certainly a big wound-she said, with a hint of admiration in her voice.

-Yeah, well...ugly scars are a cheap price for your safety-she laughed a little, feeling the blush spreading. She begged for it to pass as just the heat of the water.

-Ugly? -she frowned, moving her head slightly with one finger so she could see them whole -I think they are beautiful. A prove of your ferocity in battle.

-I’m not the warrior type, so...

-Then, a prove of your bravery. Not everyone would jump in front of a hyde for a roommate.

-You're not just my roommate, silly! -she pushed her a little- You're my bestie!

-You fought a serial killer for me. In my eyes, and in my family’s, too, those are...beautiful-she hesitated a second -Not your scars. You, whole, are beautiful.

She used her elbow to lift herself a little, and very gently kissed the girl’s forehead, where one of the scars was. She then moved down to the others, then laid back down. Enid was in shock. Her lips were so, so soft, and warm, oh god, so warm. She pinched her leg just to make sure she wasn't dreaming.

-Wow. What was that?

-Well, you kissed my wounds, didn't you? Even if I wasn't the one who injured you, it was because of me, I'm merely returning the same treatment. Unless you'd prefer the hyde to kiss them better.

-Iugh, gross-she shrugged –I´ll leave the kissing serial killers for you.

-I must say, I regret that immensely. I should have known better. My investigation skills are rusty.

-Was that your first kiss? -she asked, even if she knew the answer.

-Yes. What a waste-she waited for a few seconds before asking, curiosity being stronger than her-Was the stoner yours?

-No, no he wasn't. My first actual boyfriend, yep. But I've got some more experience-silence fell between then, not a comfortable but a tense, something left unspoken one. After a minute, the wolf dared speak her mind -Okay, Wens, you can TOTALLY ignore me if you want, and I don't want to push it or for you to be mad but everyone keeps telling me and I’m not sure anymore so do...do you...do you like...someone?

-Like someone? What do you mean? -she felt like her eyes were glued to the roof. Even if she wanted, she couldn't face the girl, her body didn't allow her to.

-You know, like...romantically.

-Oh-there it was, the question she feared. She had two options now. Admit her feelings, facing rejection and possibly making their relationship uncomfortable, at least for a while, or lying, sabotaging all her options but leaving with her heart and their friendship intact. But she couldn't lie to Enid, she just couldn't. And so, she answered -I do.

-And... who? -the girl looked at her, but the goth kept her eyes on the stars, avoiding her hope radiating gaze.

-I though you already knew, it seems like everyone told you beforehand. For reasons I can't really comprehend, it seems like I've...fallen for you-there it was. She couldn't run away now even if she wanted-But don’t worry, I don't want to make things difficult for you. I'll give you space if you need it, the mansion is big enough for...

-Hey, you're just assuming that I'm gonna reject you!

-Well, I'm not of your usual colors and sunshine taste.

-I know! You're a narcissistic, violent and spooky girl. And I like that! I told you, we work. We shouldn't, but we do. You are brave, smart, caring in your own way, and really, really beautiful. And you're so passionate about everything you do, and have so many talents! Mostly creepy ones but hey, that's cool too. And...

-Enid. If you keep going you'll make me prefer rejection-her cheeks were burning furiously, and when she dared looking her way, it only got worse, spiders crawling inside her.

-Aww, are you embarrassed? -she laughed softly, poking her cheek -That’s sooo cute.

-I'll cut your tongue and force you to eat it.

-Oh please, I can't take you seriously with that blush-she winked, then laid again, looking at the roof like her roommate -There's no need to rush things. Labels and stuff? If you need time, we can take it as slow as you want.

-Good-she relaxed her shoulders. After her previous experience, slow sounded fantastic.

-Good-she echoed, a soft smile spreading -We should head back down.

-Yes, my family will be waiting for us. Well, for you-she stood up, offering a hand that the blonde was quick to grab.

-I hope they don't have high expectations with their questions, I did nothing especial.

-Don't worry, cara mia-the goth kissed her knuckles, blank expression but burning inside -I'll make sure they behave.

-Cool-she didn't understood the Italian words, but she knew that Gómez called that Morticia all the time, which was the best sign of it being something sweet. How she wanted to kiss her right now...but she just smiled, and headed for the door behind her when she let her go.
