Dates and Dancing
The day of the reunion had been full of hustle and bustle. Family members from every corner of the globe had been showing up since the sun had risen. Wednesday, contrary to popular belief, did not dislike most of her family. A lot of them were tolerable and the rest knew to give her a wide berth.
She had only spoken a few words with Enid over breakfast before her mother whisked her away to help with preparations. Wednesday has a fleeting thought about how Enid could make a good career out of being a party planner if she could handle an Addams reunion.
Without Enid around Wednesday is left with her thoughts, which coincidently have been revolving around the blond from the moment they left Nevermore. If she’s completely honest it started since, they had their first fight but not even waterboarding would get that little detail out of her.
Wednesday does her best to greet family members and endure the commonplace torture of being asked how school is going and if she’s dating anybody. Eventually she excuses herself to her room to maybe get some writing done before it’s time to get ready for the more formal part of this reunion.
From her room she can hear more people arriving and she decides to completely give up on trying to get anything productive done. There’s a loud crash outside of her door and it only takes her a moment of contemplation before she’s pulling it open.
Her uncle Fester is on the ground, his shirt singed. Pugsley is a little farther down the hall laughing and holding a flame thrower. “My favorite niece. How are ya?” One corner of Wednesday’s mouth lifts slightly at the sight of her uncle. “Adequate. I thought you were still hiding out in the Maldives?”
Fester pats down a flame that has reignited on the bottom of his shirt. “I was but I’m a sucker for reunions, couldn’t pass this up.” Wednesday can understand that, her father’s side of the family can be very sentimental. Fester looks back down the hall to where Pugsley had been standing but has since vanished. “Now where did your brother run off to?”
He hurries down the hall like a man on a mission, so Wednesday closes her door once more.

Enid is exhausted. She has been helping Morticia put the final details together for hours now and all she wants to do is catch a nap before the main event begins but she knows she won’t have time. Once Morticia gives her the okay to go to her room and get ready, she’s practically dead on her feet.
But then she thinks about Wednesday and about how they are going together as a date. She thinks about how they’ll get to dance together, and her energy is suddenly renewed. She grabs her dress out of the closet, being mindful about not creasing or wrinkling it.
She had picked it out with Wednesday’s taste in mind, although she knows the other girl would never tell her what she can and cannot wear. In the back of her mind, she had gone into the shopping trip specifically looking for something that would impress the shorter girl.
Enid had ended up with the perfect dress for such an occasion. It’s a black dress with a halter top neckline, a bow sinched at the waist and a chiffon skirt. It’s just feminine enough to be her style. It’s classic enough to fit Addam’s dress code.
She isn’t sure what Wednesday is going to wear, they hadn’t talked about it, but Enid likes surprises. She gets dressed and does her makeup a little darker than she usually would. By the time she’s slipping her heels on there’s a light knock on her door. If not for her enhanced hearing she might have missed it.
She can smell ink and something distinctly floral.

Wednesday had waited until the last moment to get dressed. She’s not one to fuss over her appearance often but tonight is different. Tonight, she’s going to be Enid’s date which means that she needs to be worthy enough to be seen on her arm. She never got to see what Enid had picked out when they went shopping but she has no doubt that the blond will look magnificent in anything that she wears.
Wednesday after nearly two hours of going through her closet had settled on something she hoped Enid would like. A black corseted dress with a slight slit and long elegant sleeves. It falls dangerously close to something her mother would wear but Wednesday ignores that in favor of imagining what Enid would think when she sees it.
She decides to leave her hair down just this once, a gesture she hopes Enid will not overlook. With nothing more to do she makes her way across the hall, knocking on Enid’s door lightly. She hears the other girl swear quietly as she stumbles to the door before pulling it open.
Enid is breathtaking in black. Her arms are on full display, and it short-circuits Wednesday brain for a few seconds. The heels give them an even bigger height difference and Wednesday has to tilt her chin to meet her eyes, which look even lighter in contrast to the darkness of her outfit.
Wednesday fears her silence may be seen as disapproval but she can’t find the strength to open her mouth. Enid doesn't seem to be fairing any better. The blond has opened and closed her mouth several times, her eyes moving up and down Wednesday’s body.
“Wednesday, you look, wow, I mean your hair and your dress.” She sounds a bit breathless, and Wednesday is satisfied with both her choice of dress and hairstyle. “You look truly radiant. You should wear black more often.” Wednesday punctuates the statement with a kiss to the back of Enid’s hand. Her eyes catch on glossy black nail polish.
Enid must notice where her eyes have fallen because she flexes her claws just slightly. Wednesday’s breath catches in her throat at the dangerous display. Enid definitely notices this and lets out a soft giggle in response.
Wednesday raises her head to reestablish their eye contact. She doesn't believe that Enid has stopped smiling since she opened the door. She briefly thinks about how Enid’s cheeks must hurt. She lifts her arm offering it to her date.
Enid wastes no time in linking their arms, dropping a chaste kiss to her cheek. Wednesday for once has no desire to stop the blush that spreads across her face. When they finally make it to the ballroom the reunion is in full swing. There is live music and laughter ringing through the air.
Morticia and Gomez spot them before they can make it even one step past the threshold. Morticia looks elegant as ever practically gliding across the floor to meet them. Gomez looks put together in his three-piece suit, he immediately pulls Enid into a hug showering her with compliments.
As soon as Gomez has released the young woman, Morticia takes hold of both of her hands. “You look Beautiful Enid.” Wednesday watches as her parents fawn over her date and it fills her chest with pride. Her eyes trace over Enid closely looking for any signs of discomfort. She finds none but there are tears that rush to the Blond's eyes at all the attention from the elder Addams.
Wednesday makes a mental note to thank her parents later for being so welcoming and accepting of her beloved. With her mother’s attention on Enid her father addresses her. “You look positively dreadful my little scorpion.” It’s paired with a large hand on her shoulder that squeezes gently.
She scans the room for a moment taking in all the familiar faces. Her brothers are near a table covered in finger foods they both look like they are up to no good. Wednesday delights in the fact that even though she will be on her best behavior tonight they will at least get to torture some of the family that she cannot.

They spend the first half of the evening making small talk with relatives Wednesday only sees once a year. She finds it both tedious and boring, but she immensely enjoys the toothy grin on Enid’s face every time that she is introduced as her date. Enid is effortlessly charming in her own way, winning over every Addams she meets.
Wednesday has to practically drag her away from some of the conversations. She suggests they grab some fresh air moments after Enid has been handed a third baby. The blond is apparently really good with kids and her family has not only taken notice but is now taking advantage of that fact.
Enid doesn't seem to mind bouncing the little soul sucking creatures on her hip and letting their little gross fingers grab at her hair. But Wednesday does mind and she would like some time alone with her date. It’s with this thought that she takes the third baby from Enid promptly handing her little cousin off to her mother so that they can make a quick exit. She tugs on Enid’s hand, guiding them outside.
“Honestly when you told me a bunch of Addams were going to get together this isn’t exactly what I had pictured.” Wednesday can’t blame Enid for her assumption, she hadn’t had much to base it off of. “Kinda thought there would be more blood and stuff.” The blonde's shoulders rise and fall in a quick shrug.
“Are you disappointed?” Wednesday can’t help but feel a little nervous given the circumstances. Enid is her first real friend and her first real crush. She’s the only person that Wednesday has ever cared about enough to want to impress. “No of course not. I love all of it, the food, the music, your family. This has been like the best night Willa.”
Wednesday realizes now that she never let go of Enid’s hand and the taller girl has been tightening her grip to punctuate her statements. “Why did you ask me to be your date?” It’s a question that has been burning in the back of her mind ever since Enid had presented her with the flower and poem.
Enid is actively avoiding eye contact now, looking everywhere but Wednesday’s face. The shorter girl reaches out with her free hand bringing it to the other girl's chin. She uses the touch to get Enid to look at her. She lets out a shaky breath before answering. “I like you Wednesday. I think I’ve liked you for a while now. I didn’t want to ruin our friendship but then you almost kissed me in the bathroom and the way you looked at me changed. I thought maybe there was a chance that you could feel the same way. I figured if you said no, we could just pretend it never happened.” Wednesday is impressed that the other girl didn’t trip over her words, it’s a show of confidence that she can admire.
But now it’s Wednesday’s turn to be brave. “Enid how could I not feel the same way. You quite literally saved my life. You are so kind and wonderful and good. You deserve the world cara mia. However, you need to know that I am cursed. The Addams do not take love lightly.” Enid gulps on the word love but Wednesday powers through. “I will be completely devoted to you and only you till the end of time. I will be yours if you’ll have me.”
Enid is near tears for the second time tonight once Wednesday has finished her heartfelt speech. If she squeezes Wednesday’s hand any harder, it might break. “Wednesday that is the most romantic thing anyone has ever said to me. I want to be yours.” The blonde pulls her in quickly hands wrapped around her shoulders and nose nuzzling into her neck.
Wednesday holds on just as tight enjoying the moment. When they break apart Enid is still grinning. “Does this mean we’re girlfriends?” Wednesday rolls her eyes affectionately but she can’t suppress the beginnings of a smile on her own face. “I suppose if that’s what you would like to call it.”
The sound of music is being carried by the wind to meet them and Wednesday gets this mischievous look in her eyes. “Would you like to dance my beloved?” Enid giggles at the term of endearment but takes Wednesday’s hand all the same.
They sway back and forth for what could have been hours just enjoying each other’s presence. Enid at some point rests her forehead against Wednesday’s, taking in the freckles that are scattered across her nose just under her deep brown eyes. Wednesday doesn’t look away; she doesn't believe she would even have the strength to do so if she wanted to.
“Willa, I would really like to kiss you.” Their mouths are so close Enid might as well have delivered the words directly onto her tongue. Wednesday doesn't offer up a verbal response she simply closes the remaining distance, giving into what they’ve both wanted for so long.
Their first kiss is soft and sweet, a promise of good things to come. Enid is the first to pull away and she is delighted to see that Wednesday’s eyes are still closed. It’s gratifying to know she has such an effect on the usually apathetic girl. When Wednesday finally opens her eyes and sees the smile on Enid’s face, she knows for certain that she would do anything for her.

After exchanging a few more chaste kisses and dancing a little more they decide to head back inside. This night has gone even better than Enid could have ever imagined. She takes a moment to let it all sink in just how wonderful this summer with Wednesday has been. Wednesday who likes her back, Wednesday who is now her girlfriend.
It makes her want to squeal but she contains her excitement, deciding that it would be better to get everything out on face time with Yoko at a later date. Wednesday parts from her shortly after they have re-entered the house stating that she needs to speak with her father. Enid lets her go after dropping a quick kiss on her forehead.
Enid stands in the hall for a few moments soaking in the feeling of being loved and accepted. Her peace is only broken by the sounds of a hushed argument coming from the front of the house. It sounds like Morticia and someone else, someone who must be extremely angry.
Enid feels a rush of protectiveness surge through her as she makes her way towards the voices. Only when she reaches the front door does she realize who could be the owner of such a venomous tone. The one and only Esther Sinclair.
