Family we get, Family we chose
Wednesday found her father off to the side of the ballroom speaking with her uncle Fester and one of her older cousins. He spots her right away and excuses himself from the other two gentleman. “My dreadful little viper I am surprised to see you away from your wolf.” Her father's expression is one of mirth and maybe even a little smugness.
“What do you know?” Wednesday has had her suspicions about why Enid would have found herself in her father's office the previous week, but she would like it confirmed. She stares her father down while he just smiles at her in a way that is much too knowing.
“I assume you are referring to your date?” Wednesday nods once, quickly, eager for information. “Enid asked for Morticia and I’s permission to court you and we agreed.” It hits her square in the chest how much trouble her love must have gone through in the days leading up to the reunion. She knows Enid doesn't deal with rejection well and having to ask not one, not two, but three Addams for such a big thing had to have been terrifying.
She has a sudden urge to return to Enid’s side and thank her for so bravely putting herself out there. “Thank you, father, but if you’ll excuse me, I must find my date.” Wednesday sets off at a brisk pace heading towards where she left the blonde just moments before, but a commotion at the front door catches her attention first.
Her mother is all tense lines and anger is rolling off her in waves. Enid is standing in front of Morticia, claws unsheathed. Esther is right outside the door clearly agitated with whatever is being said.
Before Wednesday can step any closer a flurry of actions seems to happen in slow motion. Esther lunges for Morticia but Enid being faster and positioned directly in front of the other woman, tackles her mother back out of the door. Morticia stands shocked for a moment not knowing whether she should intervene or not.
Enid is holding her own, so she understands her mother's hesitation. After a few seconds of scuffling, it seems as if Esther is going to stop fighting, so Enid gets off of her and turns around to make her way back to the house.
Behind her Esther transforms in a blink and before either Morticia or Wednesday can shout out a warning she tackles Enid to the ground. Enid, having less experience, is still able to transform under the pressure, but it takes longer than Wednesday would have liked.
Wednesday grabs a sword from the wall and is ready to charge, but not before asking her mother to gather the others just in case. Morticia nods and makes her way back to the ballroom. Wednesday runs outside to join her girlfriend, finding the scene eerily familiar. “Get off of her!” Just as in the vision the shout distracts the older wolf and Enid can kick her off and away.
The ground is covered in blood and Enid looks tired, but she still rushes to stand protectively in front of Wednesday. Esther gets back up not yet ready to admit defeat. Wednesday moves to Enid’s side ready to defend her love at all costs.
Behind them some of the Addams family have gathered with various weapons eager to protect their newest member. Pugsley has even situated himself on Wednesday’s balcony with a grenade launcher at the ready.
Esther, realizing she is severely outnumbered, does the smart thing and runs away. It doesn't stop a few of the Addams from chasing after her into the woods though.
Wednesday has never felt more grateful for her family than in this very moment. Enid lowers her head to bump it against Wednesday, she thinks it’s the wolf’s way of saying thanks. Thing comes scurrying out of the house with a robe and the rest of the Addams save for Wednesday and her parents return inside.
Morticia and Gomez turn around to give Enid some privacy but Wednesday stays where she is, just averting her eyes out of respect. Enid puts the robe on quickly and lets out one of the most pitiful whines the shorter girl has ever heard. “I can’t believe I ruined my dress.” She is pouting and her hair is mussed every which way. She’s covered in bruises and cuts. Wednesday doesn't believe she has ever seen anyone look as beautiful as Enid looks at this very moment.
“I will buy you a thousand dresses if it will make you happy my love.” She pairs the promise with a light kiss to Enid’s knuckles. This is only the start of what will be a very happy life for both of them.
W&E
Enid had to take two showers and an extra-long bubble bath to feel even a little bit clean. Her cuts weren’t extensive, and she had no other injuries that needed to be tended to thankfully. Wednesday had insisted she use her personal bathroom because it had better water pressure to ease her muscles. She was right of course, but Enid thinks there may be another reason for the change in location. Most likely the fact that she doesn't want Enid too far away from her and if that’s the case then Enid is not going to complain.
When she exits the bathroom Wednesday is at her desk writing in her journal and a thought occurs to Enid. “You knew my mom was coming, didn’t you? That’s what you saw in the vision, that she was going to come here and that we were going to fight.” Enid isn’t sure what answer she would prefer. On one hand she knows Wednesday’s visions aren’t always accurate but on the other hand having a heads up would have been nice.
“I did. I didn’t want to tell you just in case it wasn’t accurate. But I also didn’t want to alarm you. This home is the safest place you could ever be. I won’t let anyone, or anything harm you, Enid.” Wednesday stands from her desk and Enid closes the distance, pulling the shorter girl into her arms. She nuzzles her check on the top of Wednesday’s head before replying.
“I understand Willa but next time please just tell me. Even if it doesn't actually happen, I think I would rather know.” She feels Wednesday nod on her shoulder, and she brings one of her hands to rub up and down her back. The steady movement eventually motivates a verbal response from the shorter girl. Wednesday pulls back slightly to look into her eyes. “I promise from now on you will know what I know. There isn’t anyone that I trust more than you.”
Enid gives her a soft kiss on each of her cheeks before placing a more firm one on her lips. “Thank you.”
They stay up for a few more hours, the adrenaline still affecting their nervous systems. After Enid’s fourth consecutive yawn she decides it might be time to head to her own room. When she gets up to leave, Wednesday catches her wrist gently. “Stay.” It’s said so softly that Enid barely recognizes it as Wednesday’s voice.
The young writer is avoiding eye contact, but she hasn’t let go of her hold on Enid’s wrist. She sits back down pulling the covers over herself this time and Wednesday finally looks over at her. The other girl follows her lead getting comfortable and they fall asleep holding hands.

When Wednesday awakes it’s to warm puffs of air hitting her face and a strong smell of something earthy. It dawns on her that Enid must have used her soap last night since she used her personal bathroom, and she decides that she doesn't hate the idea of Enid smelling like her. Enid is still drooling lightly and if she were anyone else Wednesday would have already thought of a dozen ways to murder her.
But she isn’t anyone else. She’s wonderful and kind. She is so unserious it is nearly painful at times. She is so trusting and loving. Enid is everything that Wednesday once loathed but now she’s everything that Wednesday wants for the rest of her life. It’s a thought that should scare her, but it doesn't.
She moves the hand that isn’t currently held captive by Enid’s and traces the scars along her face gently, softly barely there. Enid begins to stir under her ministrations. Unbelievably blue eyes blink up at her sleepily as her lips split into a grin. “Good morning, Willa.”
Her voice is lower than usual burdened by sleep and possibly all the excitement from yesterday. Wednesday glances at the clock opposite her bed noting how much time they have before breakfast begins. “Good morning cara mia. How are feeling?” Enid stretches a bit before settling back down almost on top of the other girl.
“A little sore but mostly I’m just hungry.” Of course, the wolf would already be thinking about food. Wednesday lets out a soft chuckle and brushes some of Enid’s hair out of her face and behind her ear.
“We can go down soon for breakfast.”
They spend the next few moments just lying there Wednesday is listening to Enid’s breathing and if she had to guess the blond is doing the same. When it’s time to get up they brush their teeth side by side at the sink and Wednesday gives Enid a sweater to throw on over her pajamas. It is a beautiful kind of domestic morning that Wednesday would never admit to enjoying.

Breakfast has already been laid out on the table by the time they get downstairs but Gomez and Morticia aren’t seated yet, so Enid doesn't think they’re late. Morticia smiles wide when she sees her and immediately pulls her in for a hug. She doesn't say anything, Enid hears her message loud and clear anyways.
Gomez pats her on the back and sends her a wink before he takes his own seat and Enid thinks she could cry. She holds it together though, and Wednesday puts a hand on the small of her back guiding her to the chair she has been occupying since her first day here.
They talk about the reunion, who showed up and who didn’t. They avoid all mention of Esther until the meal is nearly over. It’s Gomez who mentions that the Addams who had chased her made it all the way to the Delaware border before they lost her.
It makes Enid laugh until she realizes that she might as well be disowned now. Her mother is never going to forgive her for choosing the Addams over her own blood. Her father loves her, but he won’t go against his mate to save her. Enid had sealed her fate last night when she choose to protect Morticia and Wednesday.
It must show on her face how incredibly lost she suddenly feels because Wednesday reaches for her hand under the table and all other conversation stops. “Enid please know that you will always be welcome here no matter what.” Morticia’s voice leaves no room for argument and Gomez looks at her the same way he always does, like she is worthy of more than she ever believed possible.
This time she doesn't hold back the tears. She lets them run down her face as all the emotions over the last two weeks comes crashing against her chest. Wednesday turns in her chair and wraps both of her arms around her shoulders, one hand finding her hair. Her girlfriend holds her until the tears stop. When she pulls back, she uses both of her hands to wipe the remaining tears away.
Gomez offers his handkerchief which she gladly takes and the boys excuse themselves by offering to pick up everyone’s plates. The small acts of kindness are not lost on her, and she is so very thankful and grateful for such a wonderful family. “The room you are staying in is yours as long as you want it, and you can keep attending Nevermore if you’d like.” Gomez is quite possibly the kindest man she has ever met, and she can see so much of him in Wednesday.
“Thank you. I don’t know how I’ll ever repay you for all of this.” At this the Addams parents look at each other with something Enid thinks might be amusement before they turn back to her and Wednesday.
“Don’t be silly we would do anything for our future daughter in law.” Wednesday flushes slightly next to her and she’s sure she isn’t faring any better.
“Daughter in law?” Her voice is shaky, but she can blame that on the crying. They both laugh and Wednesday shoots glares at both of them. Morticia collects herself first and lays a hand on Enid’s shoulder.
“Of course, I’m thinking a Spring wedding would complement your complexion best, but you can’t go wrong with winter florals either.” If she says anything following that Enid didn’t hear it because the reality of her having an actual future with Wednesday is a little overwhelming. She wants to marry her of course she does, but they just started dating. It’s suddenly ten degrees hotter here.
“Are you okay Sinclair?” Wednesday voice registers just barely and it’s the last thing she remembers before everything goes black.

“You couldn’t have saved the wedding talk for some other time. You know maybe on a day that wasn’t followed by her mother trying to attack her and her family disowning her.” Wednesday has a right to be mad, her parents can be so overbearing sometimes. Enid is still out cold on the couch with Kitty lying near her feet.
“Sorry my little tormenta you know we just get a little excited sometimes. Plus, how were we supposed to know she’d faint. She handled herself so well against the Hyde and her mother.” Her father and mother have been trying to apologize for the better part of the last ten minutes, but Wednesday isn’t hearing it.
“You’re not allowed to bring up marriage again until after we graduate, understood?” Her parents shake their heads nodding in agreement. “You have our word.”
Enid wakes shortly after, confused and disoriented. “I had this weird dream where your mom was talking about floral arrangements for our wedding.” Wednesday wants to laugh but she holds it in and scans her girlfriend’s face for any signs of discomfort.
“That is truly kooky my love. My parents can be such an inconvenience.” Enid rolls her eyes at her and tugs her onto the couch enjoying the proximity she is now allowed.
“Yeah, but it could be worse. They are an inconvenience at most.” She punctuates the statement with a kiss to Wednesday’s forehead.
Wednesday gives it to her. Her parents could be overbearing and overly amorous towards each other. But they are also fiercely loyal and protective. Wednesday lucked out with the family she was given and now with the family she has chosen.
