Chapter 1
Hana Song stepped off of the airship to be greeted by a talking gorilla. She did know that she was addressing the current leader of Overwatch, Winston, but it didn’t make it any less strange to her. “Ms. Song, it is so good to make your acquaintance, and welcome you to Watchpoint: Gibraltar! My name is Winston,” the gorilla said, holding out his hand. Hana shook it, finding it warm and strong, yet very gentle. Winston continued, “I have come to be the voice of Overwatch, if you will. That being said, no one is really ‘in charge,’ per say, but Tracer and I do find most of our assignments and assemble the teams to go and tackle those missions. Everyone in Overwatch has a voice and are encouraged to use it. We do our best to keep people safe, and if you have an idea of how to do it, please let it be known.”
Winston turned and started to walk away from the ship, still talking, as Hana felt a hand on her shoulder. Her pilot, Lena Oxton, had snuck up behind her. “He can be a bit long-winded at times, but what he’s saying is welcome to the family!” Lena said. Winston cleared his throat. “Sorry, I tend to ramble at times,” he said. “We are just so excited about this new partnership with MEKA, and to have an operative with a reputation such as yours joining us. For today, we will be getting you settled in to your room, and showing you around the facility. From there, we will do our best to introduce you to everyone. It’s a lot, I know, but we’ll give you a few days to get settled and really meet people here before we throw you into the swing of things. Any questions?”
Hana, finally finding a chance to speak, jumped at the opportunity. “When can I start going on missions with you all? And will you all be helping MEKA deal with the Gwishin?” “Excellent questions,” Winston said, adjusting his glasses. “We will assist to any distress calls we receive from allies. We are already partnered with Helix Security, and we offer aid anytime they would request it to the best of our abilities. As for when you will be able to become an active operative of Overwatch, that is more up to MEKA. We are still ironing out the details and there’s a lot of paperwork, but as soon as MEKA moves you under our jurisdiction, you will operate as an Overwatch member and ambassador between the two organizations.”
Hana’s shoulders sagged in disappointment. Lena put her arm around her shoulders. “Cheer up, love,” she said, “you’ll be in the field in no time! Besides, it’ll give you some time to make new friends and learn your way around.” Hana nodded. However, she didn’t need friends. She needed help in protecting her people and, above all else, her family.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brigitte was already tired when she entered the hangar. Her morning sparring session with Reinhardt had been particularly intense today. Despite his age, his strength and stamina were insane. She made her way to the back of the hangar to make sure their armor was ready for battle, and to make some adjustments to Reinhardt’s armor. He kept commenting how he could use some extra padding, and Brigitte would do anything to ease her godfather’s pain in battle. However, she got sidetracked when she saw the shining pink mech suit sitting near her armor.
Her eyes must have popped out of her head when she saw the suit. It looked exactly like the mech that D.Va used to battle the Gwishin! It must be a replica MEKA sent over for the new partnership with Overwatch. Maybe they would be letting a new pilot join Overwatch? Who knows. While Brigitte was ogling the mech in the back of the shop, the hangar door started to slide open. Brigitte, however, could not tear her eyes from the mech, even as footsteps and conversation approached her.
“Ah, yes, this young lady is Brigitte, one of the smartest amongst the ranks of Overwatch!” Winston’s voice boomed. “I wouldn’t go that…” Brigitte started to say as she turned around. She couldn’t finish the thought, however, because the Hana Song, AKA D.Va, AKA the most beautiful woman in the world, now stood less than fifteen feet away from her. And Brigitte was wearing a sweaty tank top and grease-stained jeans. “Brigitte? Are you okay?” Winston asked after a half minute of silence. “S-sorry, um, hi! You’re, um, D.Va! Although I guess you already knew that… My name is Brigitte!” Brigitte said, extending her hand incredibly fast while her face burned a deep red.
D.Va giggled at the stunning woman in front of her, trying to be subtle as she checked out her muscles and adorable blush. “Hi! I am, in fact, D.Va! But you can just call me Hana,” D.Va said. They shook hands, and Hana motioned to the mech. “Like what you see?” Brigitte nodded, turning her attention back to the mech. “It’s a piece of art, really! I’ve always wanted to check out a MEKA mech suit and analyze the blueprints. Get to know what makes them so special,” she said. Hana smiled and took a small leap of faith.
“Well,” Hana said, “if you’d be willing to help me work on Tokki between missions, I’d teach you everything I know!” Brigitte must have died. Clearly, this couldn’t be real. After waiting a second, she finally looked at Hana. “Wait, really? You’d let me help you?” Hana giggled again, a melodious sound to the ears of Brigitte. “Well, you’re Brigitte Lindholm, right? Brilliant engineer, daughter of Torbjorn Lindholm? You seem to be an amazing engineer and the mechanical know-how to work on Tokki. Besides, I always had help working on her,” Hana said, patting Tokki on the side.
Before they could continue, a beeping sound interrupted the pair. Winston reached into his pocket to pull out his phone before sighing. “I apologize Ms. Song, I have a meeting with MEKA executives to discuss our alliance. Would you mind too much if we postponed the rest of our tour? Tracer is taking your bags to your room, which I can show you to now, if you’d like.” Hana opened her mouth to reply, but Brigitte cut her off. “I could show her!” Brigitte said, a little more excited than she meant to sound. She cleared her throat and spoke again. “I mean, I could give her the tour, if you’d like. I don’t really have anything going on right now.” Hana tried to hide her blush. She certainly wouldn’t mind following the star-struck hottie around for a little while.
“Would that be okay, Ms. Song?” Winston asked. “It’s Hana,” Hana said, “and that would be great!” “Alright then! I will give you the rest of the day to learn your way around and meet everyone. I hope you learn to love your new home!” Winston said warmly before departing from the two. “Sorry,” Brigitte said, rubbing her neck and blushing. “I promise I’m normally more normal. I’m just…” “A big fan?” Hana asked, looking at the warmth on Brigitte’s face. Brigitte nodded. “Don’t be sorry, it’s okay!” Hana said. Not to mention she found it adorable. Hopefully, Hana wouldn’t be a disappointment to her. “Anything you’ve ever wanted to ask D.Va?” Hana asked, leaning against Tokki.
“Well, none come to mind,” Brigitte said. “But why do you refer to D.Va in the third person?” She asked. Hana shrugged. “D.Va is just an online personality. She’s her own person. I’m just… Hana. I hope that isn’t disappointing,” Hana said, shrugging. Brigitte looked slightly offended. “There’s nothing disappointing about you! Don’t say that! You’re great, Hana, and I can’t wait to get to know you,” Brigitte said, causing Hana to blush.
After a moment of silence, Brigitte motioned awkwardly towards the hang around them. “This is the hangar. Not too many people come her. Usually just me, Pap- I mean Torbjorn, and Reinhardt,” she said, blushing. “We use it as a workshop of sorts. I work on mine and Reinhardt’s armor, as well as any projects I have going on. Torbjorn usually comes here to work on his projects as well.” As if summoning him, a voice rang out from the front of the hangar, “Tools in hand… Oh, Briggite! How’s my little girl today?” Torbjorn asked, approaching the pair. Brigitte blushed. “I’m fine, Papa. I was just showing Hana the hangar” she said. Torbjorn looked over at Hana, a warm smile on his face, showing off his numerous smile lines. “Hello there! I am Torbjorn, Brigitte’s father. Brigitte, I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you had a girlfriend! Your mama will want to meet her too…” he started. “No!” Brigitte started, turning crimson red.
Hana also blushed but corrected the small man. “You have a beautiful daughter, but I am actually a new member of Overwatch. Briggite was just showing me around,” she said. Torbjorn nodded in understanding. “I see! Welcome to the show! If you ever need any help, just give me a call! Brigitte, be sure and show her where the kitchens are for dinner tonight. And your mother was wanting you and Reinhardt to come home for dinner Friday!” He exclaimed as Briggite led Hana out of the Hangar. “Yes, Papa!” Brigitte yelled over her shoulder as they left.

Hana and Brigitte talked the entirety of the tour. Hana found Brigitte adorable, and incredibly sweet. Meanwhile, Brigitte thought Hana was the most amazing person to ever grace the face of the Earth. “Remember,” Brigitte said, “everyone usually meets in the dining hall around 5 for dinner, but you can just eat whenever you’d like!” Hana nodded, stopping in front of a door with her name printed on the door. “It looks like this is me,” she said, trying to hide her disappointment. Brigitte looked up and smiled. “And it’s right next to me!” She said., pointing to the next door over. It had Briggite’s name printed on the door. “Great! Maybe after I unpack, you’d like to… hang out?” Hana asked nervously. Making friends and flirting wasn’t her strong suit. “Absolutely! Do you need any help?” Brigitte beamed. “Sure!” Hana said, opening the door to her room and leading the Swede in. What a great first day.
