The memories of a dead woman

The next few days were filled by people running in and out of the hospital dorm and questions being thrown at her.

Yet there was this man who stood out to her.

His poetic way of speech, how he seemed to understand her, how he sat down on the bed and smiled in such an apologetic manner that made her feel. . . it made her feel safe. Maybe they were close friends in the past.

“The way you’re suffering is so confusingly unique,” he spoke, his ruby red eyes staring at her in a way that spoke more than any of his weird poems would.

Beidou nodded at Kazuha. That was what he had introduced himself as, at least. With a small smile, he squeezed her hand before standing up, walking out quickly.

No matter how quickly he left, the dark haired woman still saw his eyes glistening with tears.

“The feeling of losing another friend is breaking me,” Kazuha finally admitted to Ningguang after staring at each other in silence for what felt like hours but had been mere seconds.

“She’s still alive, Kazuha,” Ningguang still clung on to hope, almost as if that feeling of hope was going to fix everything. Somehow.

“No, she’s not.”

His words were harsh, yet with the soft tone of his voice they still came out as a small reminder of what was going on. And to this, the albino haired woman replied by biting her bottom lip. Her hand itched to slap the man, but how could she be mad at someone telling the truth?

“Lady Ningguang, I know you may not want to hear this, but she spoke highly of you.” And to this, she found herself raising an eyebrow at the samurai’s words.

“Why would I not want to know?” She asked immediately after, still trying to wrap her head around his words.

“I thought you may want her back even more, and thus may find yourself doing something you normally wouldn’t dare to even think about.”

Should she be offended? Yes. Of course she should be, he was assuming that she had lost it completely. She hadn’t done so.

Yet.

“Oh, a friend of mine wishes to visit her to try and lift her spirits. May I tell her to come?” Kazuha’s voice was soft, almost as if he was treading on eggshells. Maybe she wanted to keep Beidou away from others, which he would understand completely.

After all, no one would want to risk their old lover’s new memories to be filled by a new person.

But, to his surprise, she nodded, running a hand through her hair in a panic. He had to admit, he had never seen Ningguang this panicked. Hell, he had never seen *anyone* this panicked.

“You understand you do not have to agree if you do not want to, Ningguang. You have to also take care of yourself and your feelings.”

And, with that, she nodded, sighing deeply,”I’m aware, Kazuha. Thank you for your concern, though.” A small smile appeared on her lips.

But the albino haired man read into that smile and only saw her heart shatter into small bits and pieces, much like glass would do when dropped and handled without care. Maybe, that suggestion wasn’t a good idea, but it was too late to go back.

“What is her name?”

Since he was deep in thought, the question startled him, making his eyes widen as he snapped his head towards her. In a response to this sudden gesture, she tilted her head to the side, raising an eyebrow before he spoke up, softening his expression.

“Naganohara Yoimiya. Though she doesn’t really mind if you call her by her first name.”

Even though Ningguang didn’t know her, she simply nodded, accepting the act that maybe this was the best possible thing to do for Beidou.

“Should I tell her?” Kazuha asked before being startled by Ningguang shaking her head. She truly did seem to want the best for the dark haired woman, even if that was putting everything on the line.

But the samurai was convinced that she maybe wasn’t realizing exactly what she was doing.
