ADVENTURE
”ADVENTURE”
Anne paused before entering the house, steading her breathing.
“Ok Anne, you can do this, your totally normal, yup normal” she whispered to herself. Opening the door she found Sprig lying on the couch on her phone.
“Oh hi Anne” Sprig spoke, hopping over as she closed the door.
“When did you take my phone?” she questioned him.
“That doesn’t matter, and plus, there’s nothing on there that we haven’t already watched. I mostly just looked at pictures of us that you took” he replied simply, handing the phone back to her. That seemed a bit too believable coming from Sprig, she wondered if he was snooping on her phone for something.
“Alright bud, well I’m gonna go to sleep, see you tomorrow.” She ruffled his hat and went to the basement entrance.
As she climbed down the latter, her mind started cluttering with thoughts of Marcy. Why did I do that? Did she like it? Will she hate me now? What am I going to say to her tomorrow? MARCY SAID SHE LIKES ME! She flopped onto her bed and groaned, she never suspected the side affects of kissing someone to be a whole lot of thinking.
“Maybe if I just get some sleep, this whooole things will disappear” she muttered to herself, turning off her light and lying down.
After a few minutes she realized that this was not going to work. She would not be able to sleep ever at this rate. Getting up she turned of the light and trapped her notebook and pen. She started writing, hoping that pouring her thoughts and emotions onto paper would help.

She must have fallen asleep because the next thing she knew, Sprig was shaking her awake.
“Wake up sleepyhead!” He shouted, “time for breakfast!”
“Ow, ow! I’m up Sprig! Stop!” She shook her head and looked to the door. It was much later than she usually would sleep, it looked almost noon.
“Lemme get dressed, I’ll be out in a sec” she half-grumbled half-spoke.
Sprig left her be and she started changing into her normal clothes when her notebook caught her attention, she had fallen asleep with it open and from the pages it looked like it had been read.
She quickly closed it and hid it away under her blanket, then left.
“What took you so long to get up huh? Talking to Marcy the whole night?” Hoppop commented.
“Nooope, just slept in” Anne replied as she stretched.
“Marcy’s in her trailer, she came by earlier this morning to see if you were awake” Sprig said, handing her a plate of leftover breakfast.
“Mm, thanks” she replied.
Just as Anne was finishing, a nock came from the front door. It was Marcy.
“Oh Anne! Your finally up” Anne nearly choked on her food.
“Mhm, Sprig woke me up not too long ago”
Marcy sat at the table next to Anne, her eyes filled with excitement. “Woah, what’s got you all riled up?” And asked, swallowing her last bite.
“I wanna do some exploring today! Maddie told me about this cave not to far from here! Can we pleeeeease go check it out?”
“Oh, I suppose we can, but I’ve gotta do my farm chores first”
“Yay!” Marcy quite literally jumped in the air from happiness, Anne found it kinda cute…
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Once she was finished with her chores, it was ruffly 2 pm, and Marcy was bounding through the forest with Anne in tough.
“Are you sure Maddie said this way? We’ve been walking a while” Anne said uneasily. She had her tennis racket in hand, looking around wearily as she followed Marcy.
“Oh, yeah she did. I mean I thiiink so” Marcy spoke.
“What are we even looking for Marbles?”
“This really cool cave that has bioluminescent moss!”
“Bioluminescent? What’s that?” Anne asked.
“Short answer or long answer?” Marcy replied.
“Short”
“It glows”
“Huh, that’s funky” Anne thought of what it may look like.
“There! Up ahead!” Marcy ran ahead, not seeming the root in front of her and tripping over it, face-planting into the mud.
“Mars!” Anne called, running to her.
“Owww” Marcy groaned, wiping mud of herself. Anne helped, then took her mini first aid kit out of her backpack. She took it just in case something like this happened.
“You need to be more careful” Anne warned, placing a few colourful bad-aids on Marcy’s cuts.
“Ow that stings!” Marcy wined, frowning.
Helping Marcy up, they walked to the cave ducking inside. It took a minute for Anne’s eyes to adjust, but when they did she saw something beautiful. The walls and celling glowed in blue strands where moss grew, looking like constatations, or maybe spiderwebs of light.
Anne let out a small gasp as she turned in a circle. The cave was magical.
“Told you it was worth it” Marcy smirked.
“Wow” she breathed, sitting down on the smooth rock floor and setting her hands on either side of her. Marcy sat beside her, gazing at the cave walls.
Marcy put her hand over Anne’s and her pulse quickened. She looked to Marcy who’s face was illuminated with a soft blue glow.
Her lip quivered as she tried to steady her breathing. She couldn’t tell if Marcy didn’t know she was freaking out, or was choosing to ignore it. Marcy suddenly flopped her head onto Anne’s shoulder, causing her heart to start hammering. Her body stiffened as Marcy let out a content sigh, how was she not freaking out? How was Marcy perfectly ok in this situation?
Marcy laughed slightly, moving her head to look at Anne’s face. “Anne freak out to pretty much everything, noted” she remarked with humour.
“H-huh?” Anne stuttered, her head fuzzy.
“Frog your adorable when your embarrassed” Marcy muttered quietly to herself, but the cave echos made it loud enough for Anne to hear.
“I’m w-what?” Anne was surprised to see Marcy’s face was flushed red, was she too freaking out? Just doing a better job at hiding it?
Anne swallowed a lump in the throat and spoke. “The light makes your face pretty..” Anne commented, her ears turning hot.
“Thanks..” There was an awkward silence where they just held hands like before, but instead of a kiss, Anne hugged Marcy tight to her, embracing her.
Marcy rested her head on Anne’s shoulder, and they stayed latched onto each other for a while.

“We should head back” Marcy muttered into Anne’s ear.
“Probably” Anne replied, sighing she let go of Marcy and stood, pulling Marcy up by her hand.
Marcy held onto her hand as the made their way out into the bright sun. It had to be around 3:30 now, still very light outside but they had a distance to walk. Most of the walk they just silently held hands but when Wartwood wasn’t too far away Anne spoke.
“I liked that cave, it was very glowy”
Marcy giggled. “ “glowy”, ha! I like that word”
“Meet there, Midnight?” Anne suggested, internally wincing for suggesting that.
“Sure” Marcy agreed to her surprise.
“Cool beans” Anne said as the walked into Wartwood.
