Chapter 1
Contrary to popular belief, petunia didn’t hate her baby sister.
She hated the magic that took her Lily from her.
She hated the magic that she couldn’t have.
She hated that stupid magic school that drew the rift between them deeper.
And most of all, she hated that meddling old man who took her baby sister away to fight in some war.
Over time, petunia’s anger and hate was pushed aside, she just wanted her sweet, fiery little sister to be her best friend again.
But by the time she reached out, she was too late, she had written a letter, inviting her sister, her brothers in law, and their child to thanksgiving dinner.
The reply letter was in her sister’s elegant, if not a bit shakey, handwriting, it read,
“
Petunia,
I’m so happy that you decided to make amends, I missed you more dearly than I can put into words. However, I’m afraid my family and I can not attend thanksgiving with you; you see, the war here has not calmed, and according to Albus, my family has been targeted by our lord. I fear for my families’ safety. We are strung across enemy lines, reg and I do not trust Albus one bit, but James would follow the old man to the ends of the earth. If anything happens to my husbands and I, I have a suspicion that he will leave Hadrian with you, if that happens, please contact Remus Lupin, Alice Longbottom, Pandora Lovegood, Bellatrix Lestrange, Barty Crouch jr., Narcissa Malfoy, and Severus Snape. Those are my child’s godparents, and a few of the only people in the wizarding world you can trust. I would like for my child to be raised both muggle, and wizard, I want him to survive in both worlds. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you ever allow contact with Albus Dumbledoor, Molly Weasley, Arthur Weasley, Sirius Black, Peter Petegrew, or Alastor Moody. I’ve gotten you a subscription to a few wizard magazines so you can keep up with everything, and a few pictures. I love you Petunia, and if anything happens to me, please take good care of my baby.

Petunia opened the envelope up further and pulled out the pictures that were inside,
The first picture was of a small baby, he had curly, slightly messy black hair with a fiery red tint, and he was standing, leaning against the side of his crib, holding a stuffed Badger and wearing a light green onesie,
The child looked over at the camera, waved, then was distracted by something off to the side, the child’s face turned to one of awe as he looked out of the camera’s range, and suddenly, his hair turned a bright, neon blue, Then the picture re-started
She turned the picture around and saw the caption on the back in a messy, yet elegant scrawl

She smiled slightly, then moved on to the next picture, it was a smiling, happy, young, family, Reg was holding Hadrian, or ‘Harry’ in his lap, James was on one side of them, Lily on the other, they all smiled, then James and lily both leaned in and kissed either of Reg’s cheeks, and he ducked down, smiling, to kiss his son’s forehead, Harry giggled, and a fluffy orange cat jumped onto lily’s shoulder, she fell over, and the picture re-started, moments before chaos, she flipped it over and saw the same writing on the back

She shook her head fondly, only James would give a group of one-year-olds sugar filled cookies,
The next picture was of Lily, Severus, Regulus, a girl with long brown hair, a girl with curly black hair, a boy with short, brown hair, and a girl with long blond hair, standing in front of a staircase, wearing ball gowns and suits, they all smiled, then struck a pose
(A/N: it’s Lily, Sev, Reg, Alice, Bellatrix, Barty, and Narcissa, in that order; Petunia just doesn’t know them yet), the caption of this one was:

There were a few others, but petunia put them down so she could go make breakfast, as she heard her husband stirring, she decided she’d look at them all later. The next time she saw her little sister, they’d look at them together, and lily would explain the stories behind them.
Little did she know, that day wouldn’t come.
