Chapter 18

Yoohyeon half expected Siyeon to follow Minji. But Siyeon ended up at the library, her mind entirely clouded. She ignored her phone for a bit, until she saw a notification pop up for one of her apps, notifying her about a game she had been eager to get.

This broke her entire concentration and she was trapped in the little article before she saw a message come through from Minji, causing her to click on it to at least tell her she was okay.

Minjiuu~: I’m at my apt safe. Let me know if you’re okay.
Minjiuu~: I know you’re upset, but she is your long-time best friend, don’t let your emotions right now determine everything.
Minjiuu~: I’m getting worried Siyeonie! It’s been an hour… please don’t tell me you got arrested :(
Minjiuu~: I know you won’t but still…

_singsing_: I’m at the library studying.

Minjiuu~: good! Have fun studying!!

Siyeon let out a sigh, Minji was right. But she didn’t say anything. She went to the library so she could focus rather than having a giant argument with her long-time best friend.

Yoohyeon sat in the empty apartment, staring out the window at the little rain trails on the window. She was in the middle of writing a paper when the thunder hit and she almost went into Siyeon’s room to check on her. But then she remembered that she wasn’t home and she didn’t have to.

She felt horrible for snapping, but it was the truth. Siyeon couldn’t just trail after the one girl who gave her attention. If Yoohyeon did that she would still be with the girl who cheated on her the first time. But she had way too much integrity for that.

She didn’t even know Minji that well. Any questions she asked were skirted around, never talking about her family, not once did she even mention if she had siblings. She only listened to them and vaguely talked about her best friend.

So she decided to do a little research herself. Just to put herself at ease with her own anxiety. If Kim Minji was this great person, her socials would reflect that right?

Yoohyeon was able to get to her page easily since Minji and Siyeon followed each other on a lot of socials now. She skimmed through her profiles, seeing pictures of a white fluffy dog, then pictures of food, and some selfies here and there.

So she went through her tagged pictures. She was seeing what other people had to say about Minji.

Most of it was from school, photos of her at cheer competitions and games, her friends from the team, and the same white fluffy dog.

She was getting nowhere. Not really anywhere, but at least she wasn’t posting horrible things online like some idiots she knew. She kept scrolling until she saw one account that had a younger photo of Minji. She clicked on the photo, seeing the caption.

BboyaBirb: happy birthday to my nerd of a best friend!!

Yoohyeon clicked on the account, immediately seeing recent photos of this Kim Bora with Dami. She remembered seeing Bora when she picked up Siyeon which checked out that this girl knew Minji personally.

She did more digging, only to come up with various pictures of random animals, some of Gahyeon, others of school events, and stories she worked on.

But nothing about Minji. She groaned at the idea of actually talking to the girl, mainly because she didn’t want to. But maybe she could get information about Minji through her best friend…

Yoohyeon learned quickly that Bora was an incredibly busy person. So she looked in all places that she would be and found her in the student Union room.

“Hi, I’m looking for Kim Bora?” Yoohyeon asked the woman who had her back facing her.

“That’s me, what do you need?” Bora turned around after placing something on the shelf behind her and immediately stared at the woman, shocked.

“Hi…” Yoohyeon whispered.

“Um… hi…” Bora frowned. “Um… what, what can I do for you?” She asked.

“Nothing school related… I’m worried about my best friend… And I’m sure you understand where I'm coming from… but… can you tell me about Minji? I don’t know anything about her besides what my friends told me and I'm really… really nervous about her and Siyeon being together…” Yoohyeon whispered.

Bora let out a sigh, shaking her head.

“Minji isn’t like what everyone paints her to be,” Bora frowned. “The other two here will tell you otherwise, but I’ve known her since we were in grade school, she’s… she’s not that,” She whispered.

“But how can I know that?” Yoohyeon frowned.

“Look, I know she hasn’t painted the best picture for herself at the moment… But you’re going to have to trust me. Minji is the kindest person in the world once you break through that thick barrier she has up,” Bora explained.

“Am I supposed to take your word for it?” Yoohyeon asked.

“In this case… Yes…” Bora sighed. “Just please… take my word for it. Don’t let your own apprehensions ruin your friendship,” she added quietly when another student walked in.

Yoohyeon nodded her head before leaving. She didn’t get much, but at least Minji’s best friend gave her a somewhat new look on her. It wasn’t enough to really change her mind, but if Minji really was a kind person, then she guessed she could accept Siyeon’s decision. She just didn’t like it.
