Chapter 19

It was a full month until the break, and Yoohyeon had kept her mouth shut about Siyeon’s relationship status. Minji had come over a few times but they mostly hung around her place, and when they did stay over at the shared apartment, Yoohyeon would be civil, and try to be nice.

“You know… Yoohyeon seems off…” Minji frowned after the younger woman left the living room to go to bed.

“I think she’s stressed,” Siyeon muttered.

“You two didn’t fix your issues… did you…” She whispered.

“Not really. We’ve been busy,” Siyeon shrugged. “I have to worry about passing my classes and so does she before the break,” She added. “Which reminds me… are you walking next month?” She frowned.

“Yeah, I got the tickets!” Minji smiled. “I can send you one if you’d like.”

“Only if you can spare one, your family probably wants to come right?” Siyeon asked. She turned to look at her girlfriend, watching her shake her head.

“They don’t want to… so I have extras,” She shrugged. “But I’ll send it to you.” She pulled her phone out, quickly sending one of her tickets to Siyeon before she could forget.

But it stuck with Siyeon. Who wouldn’t want to see their kid graduate? Especially someone as smart as Minji.

“Do you have plans this summer?” Siyeon asked, trying to change the topic.

“Um… Not really. I got into grad school on campus… So just going to sit at home… Do nothing,” She shrugged.

“You should come with me! My parents and Yoohyeon’s parents are going to take us on vacation,” Siyeon smiled. “We’re going to drive down to Busan and hit the beaches,” She chuckled.

“I… don’t think that would be a great idea…” Minji frowned.

“Why not?”

“Well… I have a dog I take care of… She’s mine, but I just… don’t feel right making my parents take care of her longer than necessary…” Minji explained.

“Bring her! Yoohyeon brings Pie. Is your dog friendly?”

“Yeah… She’s very friendly,” Minji smiled. “But I don’t want to impose…” She whispered.

“Don’t worry about it. I’ll text my parents to add you in. They’ll love you,” Siyeon smiled.

When graduation came, Siyeon stood alone, but she was certain everything would be okay. She tried looking around for anyone that she thought could resemble Minji, but she didn’t see anyone. So she stayed to herself, listening to the speeches and different names that were spoken. She watched the people go by and eventually they landed on Minji’s major and then her name was called.

Siyeon never screamed that loud before.

Minji walked by her little section and Siyeon screamed for her, causing the woman to turn and see her standing up, giving her a thumbs up. She couldn’t help but tear up at the sight of her own girlfriend being there, allowing her to feel happy that day.

They found each other much later in the parking lot, Minji tackling her the second she saw her.

“Are you happy to be done for a summer?” Siyeon whispered.

“Incredibly happy,” Minji smiled.

“Kim Minji!!” Bora’s voice was heard over a nearby crowd, right before the smaller woman ran into her, laughing as she did so. “We did it!! We fucking did it!” She screamed.

“Are you completely finished?” Minji asked her.

“Yeah! My internship offered me a job as a columnist and I really can’t wait to get started!” She squealed. “What about you?” She asked.

“I don’t intern until next semester. I’ll go on digs and hopefully, a lab will take me in,” Minji explained.

Siyeon was intrigued, that was a lot different than her work, but she knew that Minji’s field of study was a lot more hands-on in the dirt than anything else.

By the time summer officially started, Siyeon was bouncing off the walls excited about the trip. Yoohyeon, however, was not.

“Does she really have to come?” Yoohyeon complained. “I thought this was a family trip…” Yoohyeon muttered before picking up her little brown puffball.

“I invited her months ago, and my parents really want to meet Minji. And for your information, they don’t know about what happened…” Siyeon whispered. “So please don’t bring it up… My mom will have a moment and you know how my dad is…” She frowned.

“Right. Wouldn’t want your perfect life to be turned upside down,” Yoohyeon grumbled, earning a shove from the older woman. “Is she sharing a room with us too?” She asked.

“Yeah, but she’ll sleep in my bed,” Siyeon explained. “And be nice… No one but me came to her graduation,” She added.

“Fine, but don’t expect me to be all happy to be the third wheel.” She turned her attention back to her dog, getting her fur out of her face while the parents loaded everything up in the cars and got ready.

“Siyeon-ah! Is your little girlfriend coming?” Her mother called.

“Yeah! She’s just running a little late!” Siyeon called back.

Yoohyeon watched as her best friend walked to go talk with her parents. She didn’t understand why popular Minji didn’t have anyone at her graduation. Probably because she had more school to do and her parents didn’t think it was real graduation. She knew families like that. Wanting to really celebrate when their kid was really finished with school.

Minji showed up a good twenty minutes later, and Yoohyeon was surprised to see the little white puffball of a dog. She wanted to go meet the little baby, but she didn’t want to seem as if she really wanted to be friendly. Really, she wanted to observe everything Minji did on this trip.

“You can park the car in the driveway, no one will bother it,” Siyeon’s dad smiled. “We’ll get your bags loaded up.”

“I’ll hold Cherry,” Siyeon smiled before scooping the little dog up.

Yoohyeon still didn’t understand why Minji had to come on this trip. It was always family and she was never allowed to bring anyone. Now all of a sudden, precious Siyeon got to bring her girlfriend. Her girlfriend cheated on her and didn’t care once for her apparently.
