Chapter 17

“And she just… I don’t know…” Siyeon sighed, holding her small glass of water. “She’s not the same…”

“Have you tried talking to her?” Minji frowned.

“It just ends up with both of us yelling. She got so angry when you left that night…”

“I heard… I almost wanted to knock on the door to make it stop but… I felt like it wasn’t my place…” Minji whispered.

Siyeon sunk further into the couch, completely lost in the issues that she was having with her best friend.

“How long have you known Yoohyeon?” Minji asked.

“We met in high school. And she showed up and we clicked,” she shrugged. “Now I feel like… she… she’s different.”

“Well… I was your first girlfriend right?” Minji watched the younger nod her head. “And I was an asshole so… it makes sense why she would be upset when you just accepted everything,” She explained. “Why did you accept everything?” She asked.

“Life is too short to wallow in self-pity and sadness and hold grudges. It hurts me mentally to hold them. So I’d rather just move on with my life,” Siyeon answered.

Minji was surprised. Siyeon didn’t seem the type to really hold all of this perfect wisdom. She looked like a geek who barely grew out of their kid phase.

“Maybe you just need better friends.” Minji finally spoke.

“I don’t have many… Just her and Gahyeon,” Siyeon muttered.

“And me?” Minji asked, slightly sarcastic since she knew Siyeon was still walking on that fine line.

“No, not you.”

Minji nodded, a little unsure as to why she thought Siyeon would say yes. Yes, they hung out for a few days after and it was clear Siyeon was struggling but now she knew it wasn’t from their breakup, it was because she was having problems with Yoohyeon.

“I don’t know if I can keep being your friend,” Siyeon whispered. “It’s hard separating feelings.”

Minji stayed quiet, watching her carefully. It looked as if she was sorting through her words and choosing them carefully. She didn’t want to interrupt her.

“Would it be bad to ask to start over? Unless you still don’t like me…”

“I like you now,” Minji whispered. “Now that I’m not tunnel visioned on things…” She shrugged. “Are you sure you want to even date me?” She asked.

“You’re a woman of science. Why would I not want to?” Siyeon smiled.

“You’re so boring,” Minji laughed before throwing a pillow at her. “You have to have other interests. Don’t you?” She asked.

“I play video games and build models… and… I listen to music… watch movies…”

Minji broke out into a smile as she scooted herself closer to the younger woman.

“This is a new Siyeon. Hi, I’m Minji,” She laughed.

Dong was a little surprised to see Minji acting completely normal. She was even more surprised that she didn’t even glance in her direction and was just utterly shocked when she didn’t lash out at the team during practice. She climbed the bleachers after, finding her two best friends there. Of course now with the addition of Yubin’s girlfriend.

“What’s with the confused face?” Gahyeon asked.

“Besides the usual of course,” Yubin teased.

“Just confused as to why Minji didn’t snap and try and kill us as a whole today,” She answered before sitting down.

“Oh, because she’s dating Siyeon again,” Bora answered without hesitation. “They’re trying again,” she shrugged.

“Is that even a good idea?” Dong frowned.

“Yeah… I don’t think so… I’ll be back…” Gahyeon immediately stood up, leaving them alone.

“What’s her deal?” Yubin frowned.

“Probably going to ask Yoohyeon if she knew,” Dong muttered.

“What is Yoohyeon like? She seems nice. And I heard she’s super good at languages. We could use someone like her in the union,” Bora smiled.

“She’s great,” Dong mumbled.

Gahyeon found Yoohyeon walking from her late class and she nearly tackled her, which of course, caused the older woman to complain about being hurt.

“Did you know Siyeon was dating Minji again?!” Gahyeon panted, clearly out of breath from locating her friend.

“She what?!” Yoohyeon frowned.

“Yeah, she’s dating Minji,” Gahyeon huffed, placing her hand on Yoohyeon’s arm.

Yoohyeon watched her short friend for a moment, letting her catch her breath.

“I don’t know how long it’s been going on, or when it started or what,” She added.

Yoohyeon groaned, hurrying to their apartment before anything else could happen. She didn’t know what she was going to do but she knew Siyeon needed to be told a few things.

When she got into the apartment, she was surprised to see Minji seated there at the table with a few textbooks open, and that was when she saw Siyeon.

“You.” Yoohyeon glared at her best friend. “Why the fuck do you think this is a great idea?!” She shouted at the older woman.

“It’s my life Yoohyeon! Just stop!” Siyeon frowned. “I let everything go because I can’t handle holding onto it and forcing myself to be this angry!” She shouted.

Finally, Yoohyeon was getting a proper reaction out of her.

“She cheated on you multiple times and this makes you the sick little puppy who can’t even move on from someone who is so fucking toxic!” Yoohyeon knew it was bad, but Siyeon needed to hear it.

“You know what,” Siyeon glared.

“Siyeon-ie…” Minji whispered, placing a hand on her arm. “Don’t.” She frowned.

“Don’t stop her from talking. You don’t have a right to do that.” Yoohyeon scoffed.

“I’m aware,” Minji stated while collecting her things. “I’m also aware that you have no say over her life. She’s not your family, and she’s not yours to boss around. But I won’t say anything more. I know when I’m not wanted. And I don’t want to make things worse by sitting here.”

She was calm with her words before she left, leaving the two fuming in the dining room.

Yoohyeon closed her eyes, trying to calm herself when she heard the shuffling of papers and books being shut. When she opened them she frowned at the sight. Siyeon packed her things and shoved them into her bag.

“You’re leaving?” Yoohyeon asked.

“I was in the middle of studying for a big exam. So yes. I would like to be somewhere I can focus right now.”
