Chapter 12

“Are you sure about this?” Yoohyeon frowned, flattening the yellow plaid skirt that Minji dressed her in.

“It’s spring. Trust me. This will work,” Minji winked.

Yoohyeon was hesitant. It had only been two months and yes, Dong was starting to get a little more touchy and much closer than before, but she still wasn’t sure.

All of it screamed not her. She wasn’t used to this attention. And since she was dressing like this, a lot of people have her attention. But it was working on the one person she cared about. Which worked in some ways.

They walked out of her bedroom, seeing Siyeon already munching on a bowl of cereal to start her day.

“Wow… You look good,” Siyeon smiled.

“Thanks!” Yoohyeon blushed.

“I’ll see you at my place okay?” Minji placed her hand under Siyeon’s chin, lifting her up to give her a quick peck on her lips.

“What time?” Siyeon asked.

“Let’s say seven,” She answered.

“Okay. I’ll be there,” The younger smiled.

“What’s tonight?” Yoohyeon asked.

“Eight-month anniversary!” Siyeon beamed. Minji nodded in agreement before moving to grab her bag.

“I should head to class. It’s a hike from here. I’ll see you later!” She quickly said before heading out.

“Do you want to see what I got her?” Siyeon whispered when her girlfriend finally left. Yoohyeon nodded her head and followed her best friend into her room. “It’s a geode!” She held up the broken rock, watching Yoohyeon’s face light up.

“How did you find one of these?” She asked.

“It took a bit. I didn’t know they come in colors. So I hope she likes it…” she frowned while examining the rock.

“It looks so cool… I’m sure she’ll love it!” Yoohyeon smiled.

Siyeon was extremely giddy all day. She had never gone to Minji’s place because she was in the dorm building with a roommate. Now she was on her own in an apartment and she couldn’t wait to see how she decorated. She hoped she had cool rocks to look at just around. Or maybe she had some fluffy blankets. Or even just all-around cool stuff. Or maybe a minimalist.

She wasn’t sure. But she was excited. Excited to just take this next step. Seven months was a long time and she was happy. Happy for the first time in years.

Yoohyeon had stumbled into Dong in passing, and she could see just how flushed her face was at the mere sight of her.

“Wow… you look… really good…” Dong whispered.

“Thank you…” Yoohyeon blushed.

“You know… I don’t have practice tonight… if you want we can do something?” She asked.

“Yeah! Siyeon will be out. My last class ends at 7:30 so maybe a little after?” Yoohyeon smiled, watching her nod her head.

“I’ll be at your place at 8.”

Yoohyeon was excited. She didn’t know what to expect. Maybe just a hangout. That was safe. Safe and promising. Nothing was expected except just relaxing and talking. Like they used to. If things happened then they happened.

Siyeon saw the messages on her computer. She pulled up a tab, seeing the thread from Minji while she sat in her class.

Minjiuu~: you can come by a little earlier if you want, I’ll probably be cleaning so I’ll leave the door unlocked :)

_singsing_: oh okay, are you sure that’s safe?

Minjiuu~: yeah! It’s a safe-ish complex. Don’t worry! See you~

She felt the butterflies in her chest. Not her stomach as had Yoohyeon explained. She didn’t know what to expect. She was mainly excited to give Minji her present. She knew how much she loved geodes and she couldn’t wait to see her face.

She knew what it was like to get something that was a favorite. She remembered getting her first real gaming PC and her first-ever modeling kit. She loved everything about them and would never give them up. It was always something she cherished. Even the feeling that came with it.

The day had flown by, and Siyeon had everything ready. She changed out of her day outfit, choosing to wear something a little comfier than normal pants, and made sure everything was in her bag. Her little note, the pretty rock, and the authenticity certificate.

She followed the map directions, grateful that it wasn’t too far of a walk. She checked her watch and saw that it was close enough to seven. So she assumed it would be good to walk up.

Siyeon checked her messages again, seeing that Minji did in fact say she would leave the door unlocked for her. That she would be cleaning.

The door was in fact unlocked, and the apartment was clean. Minimalist with a little table next to the door. She walked a little further in and froze when she heard certain sounds.

“Dong-ah!”

And she knew those voices. She knew what all those sounds were. She wasn’t stupid.

“Fuck, that doesn’t get old..”

She set the bag down quietly on the little table and left. She didn’t entirely know how to process anything but it was clear that she wasn’t really wanted.

Yoohyeon walked into the shared apartment, seeing her best friend bundled up in her fuzzy blanket with a blank expression on her face with the tv on. She was confused at first, checked her phone, and saw that it was almost 8.

“Siyeon? Aren’t you supposed to be…” her words trailed off as she got closer, seeing the tear-stained cheeks, red, puffy eyes… “What happened?” She frowned.

“I think we’ve broken up now…” She sniffed.

Yoohyeon was in disbelief. They seemed perfectly fine this morning.

“Talk to me. What happened?”

“I went to her place like she said. And when I walked in she was… she… was with Dong…” Siyeon sniffed. “And I heard them and…” She burst into more tears, shaking her head.

Yoohyeon felt something snap inside. Seeing Siyeon this hurt really lit a fire in her chest and now she was beyond sadness. She put her own feelings aside and honestly threw them in the internal incinerator that was now fueled with anger.
