Chapter 2

Minji glared across the courtyard at a couple she despised. She let out a small sigh before going back to her textbook, choosing to block out the world and just study. She knew she could have studied in her apartment, but she didn’t want to see her roommate at the moment. Especially since she was bringing her boyfriend around. Even though they both had a rule to let the other know at least 24 hours in advance that someone of interest was going to be in their private space.

She was happy she didn’t share classes with her ex. But at the same time she wished she did. Just to keep eyes. But they shared the same extra curricular. Which forced them to spend much more time than necessary together.

“Still banging your head in a book about rocks?” The cheerleader looked up, seeing her short best friend moving to sit next to her.

“Make fun of my future career all you want but you’ll be jealous when I get to explode rocks and you don’t,” Minji muttered before writing a few notes to remember the differences between certain volcanic rocks. “Aren’t you supposed to be in the student office?” She asked.

“Yes, but around this time Dami is walking around,” Bora smiled.

“You’re worse than I am,” Minji rolled her eyes at the younger, feeling a slight shove.

“She’s just a person of interest. I’m not psychotic like you are,” The shorter woman muttered. “How’s that plan going anyway?”

“It’s annoying. She’s never without the short one,” Minji huffed, shutting her textbook. She leaned back against the tree behind her, seeing the small group form across the courtyard.

“Oh, that’s Gahyeon. She’s in the student relations department,” Bora looked at Minji, watching her frown. “Gahyeon doesn’t like her like that. I’ve been using Gahyeon to get me information about Dami though. Since they’re best friends. Turns out her and Dong are just fake dating to keep people away,” she shrugged.

“So she’s single…” Minji whispered. “Eight months and she can’t catch anyone? How pathetic,” she scoffed.

Bora glanced at her best friend, feeling just a little worried at the sudden shift of mood. But she didn’t question it. She knew Minji.

Minji found herself in the library that night, flipping through her textbooks to drill the information into her head for her test the next morning. Only for her to hear small giggling, causing her to glance up and see Dong seated a few tables away, with some girl with silver hair.

“That’s new…” Minji whispered before checking her phone. She clicked on Bora’s contact, seeing the familiar online status on their messaging app. She took a quick picture, sending it to her best friend.

Minjiuu~: if you’re not busy can you tell me who the silver hair girl is? Thx.

It didn’t take long for Minji to get a response, a thumbs up emoji.

Bora knew everyone. She zoomed in on the photo, wondering just where she had seen that face before. So she sent out feelers.

She messaged four people which then branched out to about twenty people before coming back to her within twenty minutes.

Kim Bora knew everyone and everything about everyone. Being a journalism major meant she had hands in all the pockets. Yes, some people hated her for her career path, but they also loved her since she would take names out and replace them. Keeping everyone’s identities safe.

BboyaBirb: Kim Yoohyeon, Cognitive Science and Machine Learning. She’s a year two, not entirely social, best friend is Lee Siyeon (same major but year three). Siyeon is Gahyeon’s bestie. We met her twice in passing. Both are very quiet. I demand payment in full, you annoying rabbit.

Minjiuu~: you and your ins and outs of the world. I’ll pay you in full with breakfast in the morning 🥰

BboyaBirb: as you should!!!! I’ll be ready at seven 😚

Minji set her phone down, smiling slightly before packing her things. She had spent more than enough time studying and spying.

Her mind was starting to form a new plan and she couldn’t wait to put it into action.

She sat across from Bora, watching her inhale probably the largest breakfast to date. She ended up ordering herself something small and light, enough to get her to lunch but nothing too heavy. Bora on the other hand ordered a meal to feed an army.

“So that girl…” Bora mumbled before shoving another bite of pancakes in her mouth. “What does she have to do with Dong?” She asked.

“Well, I have another plan,” Minji smiled. “You said she has a best friend? Why don’t I find out if this said best friend is single?” She placed her hands under her chin, watching her best friend slow her eating.

“What are you going to do to her?” The younger woman whispered.

“I’ll just date her. Learn all about this… Kim Yoohyeon, see what she’s doing with my Dongie, and just act as the driving wedge that splits them apart,” She smirked.

“Don’t involve me in this plan… You know how I feel about playing with people’s emotions…” Bora frowned. “I’m not judging you… I just don’t want to be involved. Okay?” She pointed.

“Understood,” Minji whispered with a small smile.

Later in the afternoon the cheer squad had just finished their practice, and everyone was already exhausted. Minji looked over to see Dong walking by herself and took it as a sign from the skies above.

“My favorite person in the world, how are you today?” She asked while draping her arm across her ex-girlfriend’s shoulders.

“You’re touching me again,” Dong mumbled.

“And is that bad?” Minji pouted when she felt Dong brush off her arm. “You know it’s a little confusing that you won’t let me touch you in public but the second you want to be fucked against a wall you come crawling back… begging me to touch you,” Minji whispered in her ear.

Dong took in a sharp breath, shaking her head before lookin at the older woman.

“What do you want.” She glared, earning a smile from the older woman.

“Nothing in particular.”
