Chapter 3

Siyeon mentally screamed when she heard the doorbell go off. She was perfectly comfy on the couch, dressed in her favorite thick sweats and thin hoodie with her extra fuzzy blanket draped over her. She hadn’t slept well the night prior due to staying up and having a rather intense robot fight and then getting into a screaming match with the other team that she really wasn’t in the mood for visitors.

She heard it go off again, causing her to audibly groan, forcing herself off the couch and make her way to the door. She wanted to nap her day away. Her one day a week where she had absolutely nothing planned. Her sweatpants day. Her couch day. Her “I’m not moving from this spot at all unless I really need to pee” day.

She opened the door, almost thinking it would be the other team to apologize for being a bunch of sore losers.

“Came crawling back for round two?” She cockily smiled once the door was opened. Only… it wasn’t the other robotics students.

It was Kim Minji.

Head cheerleader.

Everyone knew Kim Minji. She was gorgeous, perfect, aced her classes, and was just Kim Minji.

“Erm…” Siyeon could feel her throat closing up at her shock.

“I… didn’t know you took people like that…” Minji stifled a laugh, watching her panic completely.

“No! It’s-its-it’s not that!” Siyeon stammered. “Just… idiot guys who are sore losers!” She managed to push out. She hit her face with her palm, groaning. “Um… Yoohyeon isn’t here…” She mumbled.

“Oh I’m not here for Yoohyeon,” Minji smiled.

Siyeon didn’t know what to say. No one visited her. No one. She didn’t have that many friends. She had Gahyeon and she had Yoohyeon. That was it. Why would the Kim Minji want to come to their apartment? Was she lost?

“I’m here looking for Siyeon?” She asked, raising an eyebrow at the woman standing in front of her.

“Why…?”

“Um… Well it’s embarrassing… But… I’ve seen you on campus and you’re just… really pretty…” Minji blushed, looking away from the woman in front of her. “I… I thought maybe we could go… for coffee?” She asked.

Siyeon blinked a few times, trying to understand and figure out when Minji had seen her. She usually kept the same path, but then again Yoohyeon was better at being social than she was. She probably saw her with Yoohyeon going somewhere.

“Coffee…?” Siyeon frowned.

“Or tea… or whatever, I just said coffee because… everyone drinks coffee…” Minji mumbled.

“Well I’ve been trying to give up coffee…” Siyeon sighed. “So… sorry?” She went to shut the door, hearing the faint call of the couch behind her. But she was met with a hand on the door, holding it open.

“What about food?” Minji asked.

Siyeon didn’t know how she was talked into changing out of her comfy clothes and into real pants. Only to be seated right across from Minji at one of the most crowded places she had ever been.

“So… why blue hair?” Minji asked.

Siyeon gave her a look of confusion, watching her point to her hair. She had completely forgotten that she got it cut short and dyed it blue.

“Oh, I like blue,” Siyeon shrugged. “It’s my favorite color,” She whispered.

“Oh… interesting… I guess…” Minji whispered.

Their conversation was minimal at best. Their food came, light conversation and just casual. Siyeon was observant though. Despite not talking much, she watched. She watched everything and everyone around her.

She knew that Minji took longer to chew certain things on her plate that normal people would’ve scarfed down. She noticed how the girl had a few paper cuts on her left hand, all in places that screamed she was a page holder when she read. She couldn’t help but admire her beauty. Minji was just gorgeous.

“Do you like the food?” Minji asked.

“Y-yeah, it’s good…” Siyeon mumbled.

“You’re not a big talker… Are you?” She asked, crossing her arms over the table. She watched Siyeon shake her head, allowing her to take over the conversation.

Siyeon listened. Listened to all the minuscule information that came from her mouth. How she was a geology major, working toward her focus of remote sensing. Siyeon would’ve never pegged her for that kind of a person. But she listened and took all of the information in.

“And you?” Minji smiled.

Siyeon swore she started to melt at just the smile alone.

“Um… robotics…” She shrugged.

“I went into detail about mine… Detail yours for me,” she continued to smile.

“It’s um… cognitive science with machine learning… so artificial intelligence…” she whispered. “Yoohyeon and I are on a team to build a small robot that could be a companion for the elderly. It’s our end-of-the-year project.”

Minji was a little taken aback. Something like that was so thoughtful and kind. Nothing that she thought at all.

“Wow… what made you guys decide on that?” She asked.

“My grandma is too weak to take care of herself. And she doesn’t have enough money to get help. So my parents take turns to help,” Siyeon explained. “And everyone else in the group has had a family member in that situation. So, we agreed on something that could help people instead of hurt or cause greed…” She shrugged.

She was back in her shared apartment an hour and a half later, unsure why she had let Minji drag her around and get ice cream to end their little meeting. When she walked in she was surprised to see another girl, equally gorgeous and chatting with Yoohyeon.

“There you are!” Yoohyeon immediately shot up from the couch, rushing to her best friend. “Today is your couch day why were you out?? I tried texting you but you didn’t answer and I almost called you but I know you despise phone calls,” the taller woman fired off.

“I think I went on a date?” Siyeon whispered.

“Oh…” Yoohyeon mumbled. “Think?” She frowned.

“Think…”
