The Lake
"You can't hide forever you know. We'll find you again and again and again. You know there's no escape. No matter how many times you change names, addresses or countries we will always reach you. Even in sleep. We control you. You are ours for the taking. No one will miss you."
Beep! Beep! Beep!
Again seriously. These people can't seem to leave me alone. Now they're talking to me in my dreams. God, don't they get it, I don't want to be found.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
And you, stupid alarm clock, can shut up too.
Smash!
Okay so maybe throwing my alarm clock against the wall wasn't the best thing to do. Probably could of just hit the snooze button or something. But come on, do they have to beep that loud.
Ring! Ring!
Okay. What now? Where the hell is my phone? I can hear it but I can't find it. Oh it's on the floor. How did it get there?
Bang!
Ow! Note to self don't try to run towards your phone, or any object for that matter, when you're tangled it the bedsheets. It leads to you faceplanting the floor.
Ring! Ring!
Okay, okay,I'm coming. Heh, that's what she said. Sorry that was uncalled for. Sometimes I forget that you're there, reading what's happening. It was kind of funny tho right.
Ring!
"Hello, this is she. Alright. Well is there anything you can do. No. Okay, Im on way."
Great a pipe has burst in my office and it's flooded. All the files are wet, the computer won't turn on and my cactus, from college, is overwatered and probably dying as we speak. I was proud of that little guy. Damn it!

"So there's really nothing we can do currently to fix your office. We have to get the water out, recarpet the floor. You'll need new furniture and the walls have to be repainted. Not to mention the pipe needs replacing."
"How much do you reckon it'll cost?" I'm slightly annoyed. Just a little. It's fine.
"Around $2500 for everything not including the furniture that'll need replacing. So altogether, probably $5000." Okay, now I'm annoyed.
"Send me an invoice and I'll put the stations maintenance towards it. Thanks for coming out and taking a look Gary."
"Not a problem Sheriff. See you soon." As he leaves I take one last look around the office. Sure enough my cactus is close to death, maybe I can save him.

Having to now share and office with Officer Crawley is like hell on earth. He keeps throwing paper towards the trash and misses every time. He also clicks his pen constantly. He likes to chew with his mouth open and talks at the same time. It's disgusting. He is disgusting. I'm glad you can't see him. He gives me the shivers. Not just because of his annoying behaviour but because of how he treats the women in the station. He clicks his fingers at them to get their attention. He whistles at them as they walk by or bend over when they drop something. If I had noticed his behaviour before he was put on this case, I would have fired him on the spot for gross misconduct. I might do so after.
"So Sheriff, you going to the get together later at the bar. If so who are you taking? You're single right?"
"Maybe Crawley and yes I'm single but that's non of your business."
"Okay but who are you talking?"
Who are you taking Crawley? You're wife or your girlfriend or possibly the mistress. What's her name? Stephanie? I'm sure that all three women in your life would be much better without you. Perhaps I should invite all of them tonight and see what happens. It would be very entertaining I assume." Then in comes Officer Blake before he could respond.
"Hey Sheriff Jones, the guys down by the lake said called. They found something important that Officer Crawley and the others missed the other day." At last I can leave but before I could say thank you to the fellow officer, Crawley had to open his big mouth.
"Excuse me darlin' but I think you heard wrong. I ain't missed anything down by that lake yesterday. It was that female rookie Sullivan. Women ain't good at shit unless it comes to cooking and cleaning. Even you Sheriff. I don't know how you got this job but from where am sittin' you haven't accomplished anything since you've been here."
"Officer Crawley, watch it. Thank you officer Blake for telling me this. You may go." See what I mean he's an ass.
"Listen here Sheriff Jones. You took my job and I won't take it. I'm going to solve this case, not you. I'm going to complain to the higher ups and get the job I deserve." With that he stood up and stormed out. I can only imagine he's on his way to the lake.
Seriously though. What is he? A Disney villain who announces his plan so we can figure out the flaws before him or what. I'm going to solve this case. Not because I want to beat him but because I have a job to do and people to protect.
________________
Sure enough there he is. At the lake talking to who I assume Blake was on about. He seems frantic. The outburst I guess continued to follow him down here.
As I'm walking towards them I take a notice of someone across the lake. Wednesday Addams. Of course she'd be here. I don't even want to know how she got here without anyone seeing. I stare at here for a minute before she notices, I give her a friendly smile and she points towards the tree she is near before running off.
I swiftly change my direction from Crawley and the others to walk towards the tree. I cross the lake getting my shoes wet, not fun. Then I see it. Scratch marks on a tree. Definitely not a bear, or any outcasts I have seen. Not werewolf, or Hyde. Something bigger. Something much bigger. I take a few photos before I hear footsteps behined me.
"So you found it huh. I guess you're good at something." Crawley.
"I guess I am."
"A bear definitely didn't do that." Correct. "Probably one of those werewolves at Nevermore." Incorrect. "We should have a word with that principal. Get interviews with all the werewolves there and interrogate them. One of them is bound to know who did it. Case closed."
"No. No Crawley we will not be doing that. Those students and staff have already been through so much. Last year remember. School set fire to by a normie, formerly the sheriff's son, he died, a teacher died. A students previously attacked in woods by bears. Some died. Remember. We have no right to accuse them of anything without evidence. I'm not doing what Galpin did last year, jumpin to conclusions. So no Crawley we will not be interrogating students."
"Then what the hell do you suggest. It's clearly those outcasts who are responsible. If you won't take matters into your own hand then I will." This man, I swear to god.
"That's it Officer Crawley, you're suspended until I say so. Go home."
"Whatever. Just because you know you wouldn't be able to solve the case before me." And with a huff and a puff he goes. Thank the lord.
