Oh Kara

She really should have been more careful, jumping like that, head first into this robbery without her powers. Oh, Alex is going to have a field trip yelling at her for being so reckless. That was of course, if she got out of there.
There was only this twenty-something man in this local 24/7 grocery store she usually goes to when she craves some good ice cream in the middle of the night. Tonight happened to be one of those nights. She was exhausted from that fight earlier this morning, where she had solar flared. Only after a long debate with Alex, had she been cleared to go home and rest. So she did. She slept through the whole afternoon. That’s why she was awake at 5a.m. craving something terribly sweet.

This poor boy was probably desperate. Yes, that must’ve been it. That must have been why he had threatened Jeremy, the owner of the store, with his baseball bat. Yes, that must’ve been it.

Of course she couldn’t let Jeremy get hurt. He was a good man. Also he didn’t have any combat training compared to her. So naturally she stepped in. Just as the young man was about to hurt Jeremy, she intercepted the bat. And god did it hurt, but he wasn’t done. No, he had to hit her in the stomach too. And god did that hurt even more. She did manage to get him on the floor after that. She doesn’t exactly remember how, but he was face down on the floor, when Jeremy came and held him down. He thanked her profusely and offered her the ice cream. Kara obviously smiled at him while trying to catch her breath.

The police was on site 10 minutes after and half an hour later, she was back in her flat. She didn’t forget her ice-cream thank god. Kara sat down on her couch a sudden dizziness overcoming her. She played it off, she had to go into work today, and she already only had half a day yesterday. She really needed to finish that article she’d been working on. Also she had planned breakfast with Lena this morning. Oh yes, Lena. How could she have forgotten? Anyway, she had to take a shower before that. She felt so clammy and hot. She couldn’t meet Lena being all sweaty now, could she?

In the bathroom, she stripped her shirt and looked down at her abdomen. It was all swollen. She touched it and flinched immediately after. Whatever, a bruise was expected from her little fight earlier. Again, she played it off.

Seven minutes later, she got out of the shower. Just then, her world started blurring. Rapidly, she got to the sink to keep her balance, grasping its edges; she looked up into the mirror only to be met by a foggy rectangle. Oh so that’s what Alex always talked about. She must’ve let the water run too hot. Yeah, she wasn’t used to keeping tabs on things like that. Losing her powers only happened so often. Anyways, she had to get ready to meet Lena. Also to go to work but well, that wasn’t nearly as important.

At exactly six o’clock, she stood in front of Lena’s office, a bag full of sticky buns and kale salad and coffee and water, lots of water. She was so thirsty she had already drunk a whole liter just on her way here. Whatever, she was going to spend time with Lena and that’s all that matters.

“Hello darling!”

Lena finally opened the door and engulfed Kara in a big hug. She stepped back, putting her hands on Kara’s shoulders.

“Are you alright?” she put the back of her hand on the blonde’s forehead. “You look very pale. Are you sick?” The idea of Kara being sick scared the green-eyed woman more than she would like to admit. Since she got Kara back, after their fallout, she started watching the news like a new ritual, always fearing for her best friend. Panicking and almost losing her mind when said best friend (god did that hurt just as much) didn’t text back within the hour.

That crippling anxiety never went away. And now the woman she cared for most in the world, stood as pale as a sheet, with wet hair sticking to her forehead in the middle of her office. And Lena knew. She watched her exhaust her powers yesterday against that stupid alien. She knew the blonde woman was rendered close to a human now. She knew she could get hurt. Actually get hurt and that made Lena want to send her home immediately, home where she would be safe. Except that it was too late.

“Kara please” Lena almost begged “Please tell me where you’re hurting.”

“I’m… I’m f… I’m fine” Supergirl answered honestly. The CEO’s piercing green eyes frowned. Okay maybe not so honestly after all. “My… My stom…”

Kara didn’t have time to finish, that Lena pulled her shirt up, exposing the swollen and oh so purple abdomen of the woman she lov… of Kara. Kara’s abdomen was bloody purple. She gently touched it, only to be met by a wince. Fuck. Her degree in medicine kicked in. “Internal bleeding” She mumbled to herself. She recognized the symptoms.

“Kara?”

Lena carefully patted her cheek wanting, needing to get her attention.

“Lee… Lee, I don’t… I don’t feel so good”

“You’re going to be okay darling” Lena’s heart almost skipped a beat, when Kara let the breakfast bags fall to the floor and dangerously swayed on her feet. The CEO grabbed her friend before she could fall on the floor and possibly injuring herself further. She laid her on the floor and put her brand new YSL cardigan on the blonde, praying to god that the clothing article actually did its job and kept her warm.

“Kara? Kara baby please open your eyes.” She gently rubbed her knuckles on her collarbone, trying to wake her up. Lena was on her knees, Kara’s head resting on her thighs, her right hand desperately trying to wake Supergirl up, while her left fumbled in her too many pockets trying to find her bloody phone. Finally! She found it in her right back pocket. She unlocked it with trembling fingers. “Hope, call Alex Danvers!”

“Calling ‘Alex Danvers’ now”

“Hey Lena what’s up?” The older Danvers’ voice came out.

“Alex thank god! You need to get to L-Corp now!”

“What? What happened Lena? Are you okay?”

“It’s Kara! I… She’s… I think she’s bleeding internally. Like really bad. She’s unconscious. Alex you need to get here now! I don’t think she has much time left”

Lena knew the risks of a major internal bleeding and could feel tears leaving her eyes. She could feel them rolling down her cheeks, but she couldn’t bring herself to care. The woman she loved was bleeding out on her floor. She had two fingers pressed on Kara’s neck. She could feel her pulse, way too rapid. Kara’s body was trying to get more blood to the vital organs. It was trying to compensate for the blood loss.

“Oh Kara” She pressed her lips to Kara’s clammy forehead, praying to gods she didn’t believe in two minutes ago and waiting for Alex to arrive.
