Chapter 6
Once we were done eating breakfast, we split up. Joey and Alaina with the kids went to the supermarket, while the rest of us explored the town. We agreed to meet up at the supermarket by 10am. We were scouting out the towns, familiarizing ourselves with the roads. "Hey Evan, stop the car." I said as i looked at the store from the window. Confused, he stopped and parked the car before looking at what i was staring at. The confusion in his face was gone the second he looked at it.
It was an armory shop.
'Seriously?' Ezekiel mumbled out. "Yes seriously, we need all the protection we could get." I said as i stepped out of the car, the two of them following behind me. I opened the door, met with an old man with a beard. He was cleaning one of the guns. I looked around the shop, it was filled to the brink with different kinds of weapons. There were swords and axes displayed at the wall. Down by it, different kinds of rifles were also displayed. In the glass cabinet, there were magazines and knives displayed. 'America, you are a danger to your own self.' I thought to myself.
"So what do you folks want or need?" The man behind the counter said. We exchanged a few looks still unsure. "We'd like to look around first." I said as we split up, looking around.
By the very center of the shop, there was THE dream, MY dream. There was a compound bow displayed, down beside it was a recurve bow. Beside those bows was an crossbow. My eyes widen in fascination. "She a beauty aint she? We just got her." One of the workers said, they were beside me. I only nodded before the man behind counter saw me. "Interested?" He said and i nodded my head immediately. "Wait for a second." He said as he went at the back of the store. I approach the counter, as i looked at the glass cabinet. There were different types of arrows displayed. Once the man came back, he had brought down with him a compound bow.
The guys seem to notice my fascination, "How heavy is it?" One of them asked as soon they were beside me. "70 Lbs." The man simply said, but i wasnt listening to their conversation. "Can i try it?" I said sheepishly, my face probably looked like one of those kids excited to get a gift. The man only nodded his head. "Would you like some training? That would cost more though." I shook my head, "Im already trained." and i grin in victory. "Alright use of equipment will still cost you, just so you know." Hunter said as he led me to a more spacious room. The guys stayed behind, telling me that they'll catch up with me.
There were booths set up for each weapon that you'd like to try. Hunter handed me all the necessities, the chest and arm guard, the finger tab, and the quiver. I put on the equipments, i smile in satisfaction. I do a shooting stance, nocking an arrow, straightening my arm that was holding the bow up while i relaxed my other arm, ready to shoot.
The sound of the arrow being shot was heard, hitting the target. And ofcourse, it was a bullseye. I grin in satisfaction, while Hunter wolf whistles. "Seems like you're really experienced, you had the perfect stance." He said and i only smiled, nodding my head. "So, how much for this baby?" I said to which Ezekiel cringed at, i only roll my eyes. They mustve entered when i was ready to fire the arrow.
"$800, and thats with all the gear you're wearing right now, add that with the equipment you used, thats a total of $950. " Holy shit, no matter how good it was, it was still so expensive. I hiss at the price, "What happened to we need all the protection we can get?" Ezekiel teased me, and Hunter's face contorts to confusion. I glare at Ezekiel for a second before responding to Hunter, "Its nothing, he's just teasing me."
"Do you guys take credit? I dont have cash right now." Evan said, my eyes widen, "Nuh uh, im gonna pay." I replied before Hunter could say something to him. "We do, we take credit and cash." Hunter said. "Okay good, im gonna take it." I said and Ezekiel's eyes widen. "Sis! What are you doing?!" He whisper shouted, "Keep us safe, duh." I said in a sarcastic tone. "Yea but, thats almost a thousand dollars!" He exclaimed, "Kiel, listen to me, its the fucking zombie apocalypse, soon money wont be necessary." I gritted out in response and that seemed to shut him up.
I remove all the equipment, giving it to Hunter before we walk out of the training room. It took some time for the equipment to be prepared but it was all so worth it when i finally had my own archery set. I didnt even hide my excitement, as i let the men take it to the car while i paid. 'Goodbye money, hello to protection.' I thought as i grin widely. I even bought some more arrows. The guys were waiting inside the car, once i got in Evan said "You know i couldve paid it for you." Which made me snort.
"Ev, you arent my sugar daddy for you to do that. Besides, its the apocalypse, money wont be needed soon. Its my gift for myself." Evan laughed to what i said only saying "Sure sure." To me.

By the time we arrived at the supermarket, They were already done and waiting for us outside. Joey and Alaina looked worried while the twins were playing with their new dolls. We put all the groceries at the trunk, and Alaina heard from the ladies that were shopping that there was apparently a patient in the hospital that arrived in blood. I suck in a breath, we really cant get a day off can we?
Joey had already informed the others, making sure to keep it a secret to his daughters. Once we were done putting all the groceries in the trunk, we immediately left the place.
