Danger

I woke up when the car came to a halt, i mustve fallen asleep. I grabbed my phone from my pant pocket, opening it to reveal the time, it was 3:14am. I looked around and everyone was mostly asleep except for the two of us. "We've managed to get some distance from the city." Joey said to which i only hummed in response.

"Im pretty sure that you're tired, get some sleep, i'll drive." I said as i took off my seatbelt and opened the door to get to the drivers seat. "I cant thank you enough for taking us with you." Joey said once he opened the car door. I only smiled at him, "Dont thank me yet, there's still alot of things ahead of us."

Once i sat down on the car seat, i closed the airconditioner off, saving us some gas and rolling off the car windows slightly. I looked at the mirror and saw Joey had already slept.

By 6am, most of the adults had woken up. We were passing by a small town, and people walked outside with no fear, they mustve havent heard of what happened in the city considering communications have been down for almost a day now. I stopped by a small motel, we'll need to stay here for atleast a day or two. I stepped out of the car, Ezekiel following me. "How was your sleep?" I asked him.

"Was okay." He answered me timidly, ah, he's mad at me. "Kiel, are you still upset?" Way to ask the obvious, self.
"Ofcourse i am! I almost lost you for fucks sake." He replied, "Just dont do anything like that impulsively, its too reckless. I cannot lose you too." His expression full of distraught.

"I'll try not too." I said as i patted his shoulder, giving him a small smile. "It takes alot for me to end up dead you know?" I bluffed to which he sarcastically said "Haha, very funny sis." I only snickered as we continue to make our way towards the register. The registrar looked at me up and down, judging me. I raised my eyebrow at her before looking at myself. 'Hah, so thats why.' I thought, blood was splattered at my shirt and knuckles. "We encountered some rough folks." I said awkwardly as i scratched my head.

She stopped giving me the looks but i knew she was still judging me. 'I am so gonna eat so much after this.' I thought to myself. We havent ate since yesterday and im pretty sure everyone is hungry. "You folks here for the season?" The registrar asked, right it was almost christmas. "No no, we're just passing by, gonna visit some of our relatives." Ezekiel lied to her but it seemed like she was content with that answer. "Here's your keys, its the second floor, room 13." The registrar said as she gave us our keys. We only nodded in agreement as we made our way back to the car.

Joey and Evan was outside the car, talking. "So whats the plan?" Evan asked once we were near them. "Gonna stay here for atleast a day or two. Get some more food atleast and then sort out our luggage, it would be good if we travel light." I said, "Our room is at the second floor, room 13. Im gonna go freshen up before more people grow suspicious of me. After that, you guys freshen up and lets head off to get some food."

They only hummed in response to what i said. "Lets get the kids and our luggage up in the room." They nodded at what i said. I opened the car door and saw Alaina rubbing the twins hair. "Goodmorning Al, lets get the girls up in the room and freshen up."

A soft goodmorning was mumbled as we took the twins up while the men carry the luggages. I softly set down Ami on the bed, Alaina doing the same. Once the men dropped down the bags, i take my bag and took out a simple black polo with trousers. Alaina handed me the soap and some hair shampoo and conditioner. I mumbled out a soft thank you as i make my way towards the bathroom.

Once i was done taking a bath, everyone took their turns taking a bath. The room was a mess considering we we have taken out our things. I continued what was left behind, taking one change of clothes for the each of us before putting it on the bags. It took sometime considering i arranged our clothes to our food. We were left with four bags max. The only thing left were the empty bags, which we'll fill one bag with bottled water or some sodas. I didnt touch the weapons bag and when i did it was only because i took out the food and water out.

Everyone was soon done with taking a bath, even the twins. They were unusually quiet, but its probably because of what happened yesterday was still circulating in their minds. I crouch down to their level, the girls looking me in the eyes. "What would you guys want for breakfast? Do you want pancakes, bacons or some waffles?" I asked them with a smile. The girls looked at each other first, before nodding with a small smile. "Waffles and bacon!" They whispered shouted, "Okay then, promise me not to tell your dad though, he'll scold me." I said cheekily, holding out my pinky finger. They laughed cheekly, as they crossed their pinky on my pinky.

Once everyone was settled in the Car, with Evan driving, we were off to the nearest restaurant. The kids looked okay now, not so tense anymore. They were at the back with their dad, while me and Alaina were in the second row, with Evan and Ezekiel at the front. We had put some of the luggages in the back of the car, as we left the duffel bags filled with food at the room we were staying at. We parked by a 24/7 diner, it looked like of those diners you see in movies.

As soon as we opened the door, we were greeted with the smell of food and that made our stomach grumbled. We laughed awkwardly as we tried to find a table big enough for all of us. But there wasnt any, so we had to take seperate tables. Me and Alaina were with the kids, i was starting to notice that we were growing fond of the kids. Once we settled in, the waitress came to our table ready to take our orders. It took sometimes before it was served to us considering that we ordered quite alot. But it was all worth it, as soon as we saw the kids gulfing down the food and having fun. I smiled, its good enough that they were losing some of the tension in their bodies.
