Chapter 4
Alaina and the others stood shocked, horrified of the body. "Lets go now!" I said as i grabbed Alaina's hand to lead us out there. I let the guys out first before shutting the door shut. When we got out, the zombies were trying to shake the car, startling the twins. "You fucking assholes!" I screamed through gritted teeth, gathering their attention on me. I march down at them, using my fist and legs to knock them out in the process. It didnt take much before Ezekiel followed me knocking them out too. "Get in the car!" I said as the others stood watching. A loud gunshot was heard, one of the bodies dropping down.
BANG!
I panted, as i look up at the person who fired a shot, it was a cop. And they were drenched in blood. It didnt take long before more of them were making their way towards us. "Go now!" The cop shouted as he fired more shots. I run down the car, Ezekiel following behind me. I opened the car door, immediately shutting the door when i sat down. Once Ezekiel was in, Joey immediately started driving. I finally could exhale the breath i was holding, my chest going up and down. I look beside me, Evan looking worriedly at me, passing me one of the wet tissues to wipe my face with. "You okay?" Alaina whispered, she was at the back with the kids, curled around her . "Yeah, im okay." I said as i panted softly.
I looked up, the roads were blocked but Joey made sure to go around. But then it was there, a long line of cars honking at each other. There was smoke everywhere, and blood was scattered on some of the cars. "Well shit." Evan mumbled. "Joe, are there any other roads open? We need to get out of here, we're too exposed." I said. Joey looked at me through the mirror, "There is one, but i cant guarantee there wont be any bumps." "Then go." And so we did, Joey swerved the car in the left, knocking down some trashbins. "Its about to be real bumpy." Joey said as he sped on the road, cars swerving out of his way. I tightened my grip on my seat, as Joey made his way back to our street. "Joe!" Ezekiel screamed, frightened that Joey was making taking us back on our street.
But he swerved before he reached our street, knocking down some of the zombies in the process. I looked out the window, and it was a real shit show, there were still people out on the street, gunning the zombies down. Some of the cars had crashed, smoke coming out. "Joe! Stop the car!" I said as slapped the roof of the car. They all looked around me in confusion as Joey stopped the car in the middle of the street. "Nikka, we cant save people!" Ezekiel reasoned out. "I know, so thats why i'll protect the people we have." I said before i went out of the car, immediately running at one of the cars. It was a police car. The doors were left wide open, the keys were left hanging in the keyhole. I took the keys and scrambled fast to open the trunk.
I immediately took the duffel bag, and it weighed a shit ton. I ran back hissing at the process as the duffel weighed me down, i picked up a gun that was left behind im the process. In my peripheral vision i could see some of the zombies staggering towards me so i fasten my pace. Once i reached the car, i immediately open the car door and i was about to close it when one of the zombies tried to reach out. The twins screamed in horror as the guys tried to tell me how to get rid of it, ofcourse they were also shouting. Angerly, i close and open the car door in attempt to get their hands away. It was successful enough. Once the door was shut, Joey immediately drived. Everyone heaved a sigh of relief once we started driving again, "Nikka! For the love of god, Dont do anything impulsively!" Ezekiel shouted at me in worry, "Kiel, im okay, im not hurt. No need to shout." I said as i lean my head back.
I looked at the duffel bag in my lap, opening it and it was a real treasure grove. "Ha," i puffed out in victory. In the bag there were two different types of guns, a rifle and some more magazines. It also had a first aid kit, two protective bulletproof vests, and some water bottles. It also had some MRES. It was weird to see food and water inside considering this duffel bag was for emergency situations, but we'll take anything with what were given. I zipped up the bag close, putting the gun that i found on it too. I looked up and, "Joey! I hope you know what you're doing!" I exclaimed as Joey fastened the pace of the car. "Hold on tight!" Ezekiel said as we all gripped our seat. Joey slammed through the wall, the car going up before landing down. The car was filled with panting snd i could smell the sweat engulfing the car.
"Everybody okay?" Joey asked and we all nodded. I turned around to look at the twins and Alaina and they looked very shaken up. "Yea, we're good." I replied. Joey nodded his head before continuing to drive. The outside was a mess, much more messier than in the inside. There were cars abandoned, things left out. The smoke was dark, and i see fire. I could hear gunfire and snarling from the distance. "So where to?" Joey asked. We all exchanged looks, unsure of where to go. "The countryside...." Alaina mumbled out. We all turned to her, waiting for her to say more. "It'll buy us some time, and we need to get far away from the city. God knows how many of those things are in the city." "The countryside it is then." I said in response, my tone unwavering.
