The Beginning of the End
"Kiel! Where are you?" I screamed as i tried to hurrily shove things in my bag. "In my room, Alaina and Zach are going here, Let's wait for them!" He shouted back at me, i didnt respond back as i go to my drawers getting some envelope filled with our important documents. I have to move fast, or else we'll be left. The only thing you could hear in our apartment was our quick footsteps and the television blaring out news.
Apparently, some virus is out and that people are being evacuated out of their homes to what the government say is a 'Safe Place', it was suspicious, real suspicious. Why would the Government evacuate the people when they could just issue a self quarantine in their homes? But i dont have the time to think it through as we dont have that much time left. I look at the things in my bed, one duffel bag full of necessities and one small bag half full of important documents, both Ezekiel's and mine. A knock echoed throughout the hallways, it was probably Alaina and Evan.
I hurriedly go out of my room to open the door for them. "Evan, Alaina, Thank god you guys are here, how are you? How is it out there?" I ask them worriedly. Evan sighed, "It was such a hassle to get here. There were alot of officers stationed, they had to ask us questions before letting us through." My eyebrow creased, was it really that bad? I open the door wider to let them in, they each had a rolling bag with them with one small bag. I made sure to look out in the corridor before closing the door, there was no one out.
"Where's Kiel?" Alaina asked, i pointed to his room using my head and she knocked before entering his room, door left wide open. I go to my room, getting my luggage and setting it on the living room sofa. Gosh, what was this feeling? Why was i so nervous for no reason? Its not like something will happen. I grab the remote switching out channels to calm my nerves, but it only made it worse. Each channel had an advisory about the virus. Sighing exaspheratedly, i turned the television off. I rub my hands, slowly getting more nervous by the second and slowly getting lost in thoughts.
"--Nikka, Niks, hey i've been calling you, are you okay?" Someone asked, i looked and it was Alaina. I nodded my head, "Im okay just really nervous, you know?" She studied my expression, she definetely could see the worry in my face. "Everything will be alright, you dont have to worry too much." She said, i smiled. Alaina was always so caring eventhough i know she herself was also worried. "Yeah, everything will be alright." I mumbled.
"Okay so, do we have everything now? We didnt forget anything right?" Ezekiel said as he came out of his room, Evan was behind him tailing along. In unison, we all said yes. Ezekiel paused before saying "If thats it then, Let's go. I'll drive." Evan nodded before giving him the his car keys. Evan had his own car, it was big enough to fit the four of us, his parents were nice enough to pay for it before kicking him out.
By the time we reached the lobby, a scream was heard. It was so loud that it gave me shivers, it sounded like someone was frightened. Ezekiel and Evan exchanged a look before standing in defense. "Come on, Let's go." Evan said as he fastened his pace towards the car. There were alot of people outside with their things, rushing and shouting out orders. We put our things in the trunk, ready to head off. "Seatbelts in, everyone." Ezekiel said.
=================================
By the time we passed through the first gate, there were alot of cars moving in a slow pace, the officers at the front gate have to make sure you pass some health test. Some people, due to their inability to wait, had went out of their vehicle. Ofcourse, the officers advised them to stay in, but some were relentless that they argued with the officers.
It took some time for us to be at the front gate and when we were finally at the front, we went through a health test, ofcourse the test showed negative, we were fine. I didnt even know that i was holding my breath in until i breathed out a sigh of relief. Suddenly, after we passed the front gate, they closed it. People who were waiting patiently were finally going out of their cars.
"Just what is going on..?" I mumbled, "Hey Evan, can you turn on the radio?" Alaina asked. Evan only hummed as a response. My blood ran cold when i heard what the reporter said. They were closing off the damn gates! They issue an evacuation and then suddenly they were closing their doors on people? They say its because of overcrowding, what bullshit. Do they really expect people to believe that when they assured us that there was enough space for people?
They really shouldnt have issued an evacuation then! "Well... atleast we got here before they closed the gates." Ezekiel said, "Yea but like what about the other people?" Alaina asked, The silence in the car was deafening, "The Government will probably release another statement about it, they'll be fine." Evan said to us assuringly. My eyebrows creased, somehow it's so hard to belive what he said.
