Chapter 14
[A/N]: one chap before epilogue.
“I apologize for my daughter's behavior.” the sternness the older man previously had on his tone was nowhere to be found, instead the older man apologized to with a soft and genuinely apologetic tone. ([A/N]: so much use of 'apolog—'. My vocabulary is shit)
You three were sitting in a bench by the back of a building of the hospital the family of Chishiya's. The afternoon breeze was chilly, but not colder than the pricey cooling patch the nurse gave you for your swollen cheek.
“If there's a way I can compensate, I'll be give it to you, to you as well, young Chishiya.”
You wanted monetary compensation, but you stopped yourself to appear more sympathy-worthy to the older man. Instead you said,
“It's fine. I just want things to clear up. My dignity would be besmirched if rumors circulate that I just stole someone's fiance.”
“I'm very sorry for that, young [Surname].” he stood up and bowed his head lightly. “Ask me any favor in the future, and I'll be sure to grant it. I'll be going now, for I just received a message that I'm needed by my employees right now. Again, I apologize, and thank you for your kindness.”
You fixed your posture as you noticed that you were slouching, doing it out of habit. The silence was tense and deafening. You stared at the plants hanging on the wall, while Shuntaro stared at you.
There are no people around, as if he ordered them to stay away from your current location.
The concrete under you was dry, so is your atmosphere between each other. You saw him stand straight, and do the unexpected.
His body was facing you, he was kneeling on the hard ground, his hair covered his face, along with the hood of a hoodie you think that he just bought recently, for it was unfamiliar to you.
For you to remember the small things like this, with your bad memory, and your laziness to observe things, you might deny it, but you really valued the guy in front of you.
“Chishiya, stand up.” you rose up from your seat when he held your hand. “Chishiya, I swear to fucking god, what shit you are pulling is not going to change this. Now stand the fuck up.”
“I'm sorry, [Name], please.”
His tone reminded you of when your former friend approached you a long time. It disgusted you, making your sour mood more bitter.
“Shuntaro, you can't just pull this shit, and expect me to fucking forgive you! When are you going to stop playing with my fucking feelings?! Shuntaro, what do you want from me?” you didn't want to be vulnerable around him again, you know that he would just use it against you.
“I want you. All I want was you, it's always you.” his voice cracked, as you see his eyes glisten. He was tearing up. It makes you more irritated than you were after the mess you just experienced.
“You say that you want me, but you don't value me. You put me in pain, you promise me things you don't keep. You know, you remind me of them.” you softly said. Your voice's volume was so soft, yet it didn't held comfort. It only held calm sorrow.
You realized that for once, your mind had betrayed you to pick the wrong choice. You sighed as you removed his hands when he tried to grasp your clothes. For once, you let your heart take over.
You're going to leave him.
All of your life, people are the one that left you behind. But now, you'll be the one to end things all.
“Unless you fix your issues, and unless I actually fix mine, I don't think we can be together. Goodbye, Shuntaro.” Before you let go of all the things that gives shackles to you towards healing, you uttered the three words you thought you would say in a lovely setting.
“I love you.”
