A foolish mistake
“See you soon?” Miku whispered, a shy smile and blush on her cheeks.
“Of course, you are mine now after all.”
The departure from the werewolf’s household was a distance memory, seemingly feeling like centuries ago dancing in the folds of her brain. The Vampire would turn toe and run back to the nest of the fur and fangs over facing the unpredictable actions of the colony leaders.
Kagamine Rin and Len called over the loudspeaker demanding that their highest ranking vampires visit their chambers. Whenever the highest ranking members were called together, it was always a bad omen. Three years ago another vampire was found making their own colony and the twins had taken turns ripping flesh from bone, separating the very atoms of the poor bastard and then was dropped at the edges of the werewolves forest to be finished off.
Cement stairs going down deeper in the complex, where the basement sign had once been screwed to the wall was long gone and replaced with two skulls that rested on two screws out of the wall. As tradition the double skulls before the lair means someone was being excused for going against the colony. Fresh blood spatters painted the wall with a handprint tracing down father into the stairwell.
“Oh she is pissed today, wonder who’s on the chopping block huh?” A familiar voice asked, as the words echoed off the steps and lingered in the air. Luka glanced over her shoulder to see the long blonde ponytail bobbing behind the one face she didn’t want to see. Neru.
“Piss off.”
“Don’t be so harsh lulu, it’s just going to be a show for us.” Neru’s golden eyes were borrowing holes into the older ghoul, a devilish smile that was far too wide for comfort. She was always dressed like a spoiled little brat, a shirt that was designed to hang off one shoulder and a mini skirt that hugged her frame. Neru was Len’s favorite toy, which made her a prized pony able to dress up cute and prance around like the world revolved around her.
“I hope it’s you who’s on their way out.” Groaned the exhausted Vampire, taking led down the stairs with each step making herself sick with worry. Luka didn’t report back to the colony last night due to the full moon situation, yes it wasn’t enough to have her very existence smudged off the face of the planet but it was enough to piss Rin off and get her in a world of pain. The last time Luka was out of fingertips grasp from Rin, she earned a shattered arm with little blood to help heal the injuries. Goosebumps were racing down her spine, covering the pale skin that practically flowed under the dim lights of the stairwell.
Neru hummed a happy tune behind the taller woman, each step the smaller ghoul would tap her foot on the beat of the song causing nothing more but pure agitation to bubble underneath Luka’s skin. The blonde was far too happy to see someone else meet their end, it made the woman feel nauseous. Her own palms began to sweat as they opened and closed into fists to help focus the anxiety to one spot of her body then to let it tremble all over.
With the stairwell coming to an end, more concrete welcomed the pair of ghouls, the walls, floors, and ceiling were all made of the sturdy material able to take a hit from the strongest monster with only shedding a few pebbles. There was no need for much force beyond that to get any point across nor was it ideal to keep the horde in any prying eyes of humans. Candles in masses covered the ground in piles causing a yellow glow to dance the features of the other blood suckers that were already standing with equally uneasy expressions.
Luka silently made her way to the back right of the room, the closest position to where the twins would enter, Neru did the same on the opposite side. Chin was high with pride and eyes hungry for the feast, Neru was truly rotten to her core.
Without a word the rest of the crowd stood a little higher and shifted their clothing and hair to look their best before getting to the nitty gritty. The entrance that was beside Luka was soon filled with the two ghostly forms, both drawn head to toe in black attire having the twin look like old Victorian dolls.
Rin was the first to step forward, her eyes glowed a deep blood red, making sure her glaze landed on each and everyone of them. A soft humm was dancing in the back of the leader’s throat before abruptly stopping once she landed on Luka.
Oh fuck.
Rin walked over, circling the now trembling ghoul. A sharp finger traced the shoulder blades, her nail catching the fabric of the button down every so often. The short girl once again stood in front of her, her face was stone cold and left no room to hear any possible expression she had hidden from her. “Neru, entertain the others.” Rin practically barked, causing the blonde to shake before speaking.
“Your dear pet has a pet of her own, miss. Favoriting a werewolf over her own kind, I saw the wolf lead her into the woods.” Neru was trying ever so little to smile with your words, she spoke with so much eagerness it was like watching the teacher’s pet gloat after receiving attention. “Oh,” Neru said, “I know you don’t need to remind my queen, but it was a full moon last night too.”
Luka didn’t have time to react or plead, let alone think, she felt her back hit the concrete hard, feeling the dust from the ceiling rain down on her. A sharp punch to the gut made the woman gasp for air but was only met with the taste of her own blood.
Rin’s footsteps didn’t register before she felt a kick to the chest, once, twice, three times? She had lost count, all she felt was wet around her, if she was a human it would have been warm and comforting but vampire’s lost that warmth. Luka’s forearms braced in front of herself on the floor to help lessen the blows but still the crunching of bones was deafening. Any sensation that was left in her body had long gone left its owner, it was something that she grew to appreciate more now than ever, hee ability to turn off the pain was a gift she would never take for granted.
The kicks stopped just a moment before a hand grabbed the collar of her shirt, an angry tug pulled the ghoul to face her leader. Rin’s fangs were out and her face was screwed up in disgust and hatred, her other hand gently caressed Luka’s chin, having the ghoul move her head back and forth for Rin to see her full face. The short girl let her face soften and a smile gently spread on her face.
“Oh my Luka, oh my poor Luka.” Rin coed, having her hand brush the blood soak hair out of her face, Rin had puckered out her lower lip. It wasn’t in sadness that her favorite toy was hurt, it was out of pity. Like how dare she disappoint her leader and expect there would be no consequences, it made Luka almost throw up.
“P..pl..please..” she coughed blood, having it splatter on the smaller girl, giving Rin an even more intense look.
Rin paused and watched Luka struggle to form a sentence. “Oh come on my child, tell me your last wish.”
Luka swallowed blood down, having her legs kick underneath her to get to a kneeling position. Arms hung at her sides, unable to move but if they could they would have grabbed Rin for dear life by the collar. Just to beg for a moment to breathe. “I, I am being framed..” she coughed, eyes not leaving the murderous glare that was mentally already ripping her apart.
“How so?” Rin asked, looking slightly over her shoulder towards Neru.
Neru stiffened up, “Please queen! She’s lying!” She cried.
Len raised a hand to silence the crying vampire. “Neru, only speak when spoken to.” He threatened, as he walked in front of the now hysterical ghoul. A small hand tightly gripped her shoulder causing the woman to buckle to the ground.
“Yes sir,” she held her head low, eyes now daring to look anywhere else.
Rin’s eyes rolled and focused back to the bloody mess of Luka. She didn’t change from the disgust she had since the beginning, the hand on Luka’s chin tightened having long sharp nails dig into the pale cool skin, the ghoul didn’t dare to whence from it. The less reaction she gave the twin, the less pain she would go through. Rin used her thumb to push inside Luka’s mouth and felt the soft digit prick itself on her fang, the blood of her leader rolling down her throat letting the weak ghoul choke out a gasp. After that the smaller girl removed her finger and dropped Luka to a heap on the floor. “Don’t make me regret giving you a sip of my blood, now tell me about this fucking pet of yours.”
Pink hair was tangled and hid the panting vampire’s face from the humiliation of groveling at her maker’s feet. The blood that Rin supplied was enough to heal the tiny wounds in her windpipe to answer her queen’s request.
“I befriended a werewolf for you, my beloved.” Luka rasped, trying to make her arms move in any way they can. “I gained her trust, I’ve seen the shift.”
“You’ve seen it shift?” Rin kneeled down to see more of the woman. “And it didn’t eat you?”
“No ma’am,” Luka felt her leader's blood doing the work, making her voice stronger to answer the questions.
“Explain.”
“She has a fancy for me, I’m using her emotions for your gain. I never meant to keep secrets, it was a mistake to keep from you!” Luka’s voice went to a higher pitch. “It was a surprise to please you.”
“Consider myself pleased.” Rin let out a small smile. Standing up, the twin faced away and looked at Len. The two silently communicate between each other's thoughts and then look at the broken ghoul.
“Please,” she begged once more. “Please let me bring her to you.”
“Silence.” The twins growled together.
“You will bring me this wolf by the next full moon, am I clear?” Rin raised her brow.
“What if she fails,” Neru chirped from the concrete ground where she was still kneeling.
“Then I will proceed with your execution.”
Luka felt everything leave her lungs, this is the first time the word execution was spoken to her directly. The worst part of it all that she is only able to keep living was the promise of delivering the werewolf to her queen, it was sickening.
“Everyone leave us.” Her queen demanded. Loud shuffles hurried out of the basement, and the echoes of their footsteps left the two. Rin waited till she heard no one but distance rats scurrying around in the edges of the dark.
The room was still dimly lit from the candles that weren’t put out by the sheer force of Rin’s actions on the woman, each flame danced as movement around them flickered. The girl used a hand to push bangs out of her delicate face before sitting down next to Luka, the other hand reached out to gently pet the defeated being that was still graveled at her feet. “Come here my child,” Rin spoke softly, patting her lap.
Luka obeyed and used every ounce of strength she had to crawl, well more like shuffled to her. Letting her face stung against the lacy fabric, each fold irritated her open wounds but didn’t dare complain about it. Rin effortlessly rolled her pet in her lap to have Luka panting up towards her. “Shush, it’s ok.” Rin whispered with a smile, “I’m right here to take care of you.”
Luka knew what was happening next, it was the grace of being Rin’s personal favorite lap dog. The queen was giving more of her blood to Luka to speed up healing properties of vampire blood, the more she drank from her maker the faster she healed. If the disfigured ghoul rested upon human blood only, she would be sulking in her room for a week at least while letting the wounds heal. Though with this being Luka’s first chance of an execution, she knew Rin would not be so giving of her blood to heal everything. She would still have some sort of injuries when seeing Miku next, and that new fear started to spread across her nervous system.
