My dearest friend
A constant ringing made the figure roll over groggily, clumsily grabbing the phone that sat on the white oak nightstand. The vampire didn’t bother to look at the name or number, she was still exhausted from the day prior.
“Megurine, report.”
“Luka?” A soft voice answered, sending waves of emotions through the ghoul like a tsunami. Miku.
Quickly sitting up in bed, the sheets wrinkling and folding against her naked form. “Miku, oh shit sorry. I didn’t even read the caller ID.”
Miku let a giggle come over the phone, it sent a large lump from her heart to her ass immediately. Guilt was running rampant within herself once remembering the promise she had made to Rin. Luka didn’t know how to explain to the werewolf that she had grown so possessive of that she just signed her death sentence.
“How did things go with your ….. colony?” She paused to remember the terminology that she taught her the last time they talked.
Luka shuddered trying to figure out what to say, her shoulders sunk into her frame while the long pink became a curtain around her. She thirsted to see the smaller woman and graze her fangs against the form and hear whimpers that were sung to her own ears. Though the thought of seeing her and putting her life in danger made the vampire sick and grow weaker then she was the day prior.
“Hello?”
“It wasn’t the best to be honest.” Luka spoke hee free hand slowly tracing a large scar that was raised across her chest. Rin only gave Luka enough blood to heal at a certain point, she wanted Luka to be constantly reminded for the rest of her long life to never ever hide something from her leader.
“Are you ok?” Miku softly asked.
“I’ll be fine.”
“Why don’t you come over? Get a break from them.” Her voice was soothing and made the vampire calm her nerves.
“I’ll be there in a few.” Luka didn’t want to be within the walls that the Kagamines ruled, it was suffocating. She had lived over a thousand years under their leadership and everyday felt like she was going in circles like running on a hamster wheel. Never before did Luka ever question her queen and did anything for herself, why would she? Being given a second chance at life and having no expiration date, to watch humans evolve and the world around them turn to new beginnings every few years. It was truly a gift that no one else could meet, or so she thought.
That fateful night, feasting on the fresh deer kill and feeling the warm blood coat her cold pale skin like a blanket. It was a desperate feeding, missing the last two feasting times in the colony that led her to kill on the werewolf territory. Meeting the young werewolf was purely a mistake, Luka was only meant to kill the dogs that had taken precious resources from the vampires. She still didn’t know why she didn’t swiftly kill the teal haired girl, it was her only mistake within the rules she was trained under. Maybe it was the heartbeat that quickened in excitement rather than fear that got Luka to entertain the idea of letting the curious pup live.
“I should have killed you that night.” Luka whispered in her bedroom alone. The phone now silent, hanging up on the chipper girl that still tugged at her heart. Luka could feel her chest ache again, bringing the depressed ghoul to her feet and dressed.
She was stuck on following Rin’s orders or her new found obsession over her puppy. Luka desperately needed guidance but who does she turn to? All relatives were long gone to fertilizer, she didn’t have friends either. Well she did have one person, the most annoying person that somehow Luka still tolerated enough to see on a somewhat regular basis before meeting Miku. That damn succubus, Lily. Sighing heavily, Luka gritted teeth and unlocked her phone to dial the number.
Leaving the colony grounds heading towards the werewolves neighborhood, she pressed the call contact and waited for the rings to start. It was very fast for the phone on the other end to pick up.
“I was wondering when you wanted to fuck again?” Her voice was sickeningly sweet, making her stomach flip as if it wanted to puke and scream at the other woman.
“No, you fucking moron.” Luka hissed. “You act like that’s all I use you for.”
“Well you did like a year ago,” Lily could be heard sucking her teeth as she thought. “What do you want then? My blood? You know time is mone-“
“You are the closest person I have to a friend, I need help.” Silence was carried over the line, Luka anxiously waited for the succubus to respond.
“I CAN’T BELIEVE IT, WE ARE FRIENDS!!!” Lily shouted in her ear.
“God damn, I can’t stand you. Fuck it I don’t need you.” Luka was about to hang up before Lily begged her to stop.
“Tell me, what’s the issue my dearest friend.” She could hear the egotistical woman lean back on her bed as she smiled. Luka had taken a heavy sigh before speaking.
“I might have a thing with a werewolf.”
“A what?”
“A werewolf. And now Rin wants her.”
“So? What’s the issue? You had little flings with people before and Rin hated it, what’s so different this time?” Lily’s bed could be heard squeaking under her weight as she leaned towards one side of the bed.
Luka took another sigh, stopping on the sidewalk looking at the ground. “She never was afraid of me, if anything she was curious. I’ve never met someone who was like that. I haven’t even drank any of her blood, I just want her. I want all of her.” She could feel her heart hurt again, yearning to take Miku and hold her close to herself. If she could keep Miku in a cage and protect her from the colony and tend to any want or care she needed.
“Does she know?”
“None of it. She just knows I want her but not even to the full extent. She shifted into her wolf form and didn’t attack me on the full moon, I’ve never met a werewolf that didn’t act like an animal towards me.”
“Shit.” Lily sighed. “I don’t know much about werewolves, but that sounds like some adopted animal story. Like damn, what do you plan on doing? I mean if Rin wants your girl?”
“She is not my girl.” Luka responded.
“Yeah and I’m the fucking Easter bunny. You know for living as long as you have, you think you would be smart, but no you are stupid.” Lily groaned, Luka could almost see her throw her head back in annoyance. “You have a werewolf wrapped around your little finger and you think she is not your girlfriend.”
“We’ve only kissed once.”
“And where are you going now? I can hear the road near you.”
“Her place.”
“Stupid bitch you are. Just make a move and call her your girlfriend.” The woman angrily snapped. “I hate when people can’t see their own love, pissing me off.”
“I didn’t call for this.” Luka pouted, feeling her eyebrows furrow. “What should I do so I don’t end up dying or miku? I don’t want it to all end in a month.”
“Rin gave you a month? How generous.” She heard the other woman lean against some pillows, hearing the bedding shift. “Give me a few days and ask around, I might have some strings to pull for ya. Though you owe me big.”
“How big?”
“You could give me a turn with ya girl,” Lily snickered.
“Absolutely not, I’ll fucking kill you.” She growled.
“I’m joking, just let me meet her. I just wanna know what kind of girl is able to keep the troubled vampire I know in one place longer than a few days.”
“Fine, I’ll talk to you later.”
“Bye luka.” Lily hummed a tune as she hung up.
As she continued down the sidewalk, the trees slowly formed a second sky over her protecting her from the harsh sun. Looking between each house searching for the familiar features of the house she was at a day ago, but it didn’t take long to find.
Miku was sitting outside on the front steps waiting, she picked at the grass that was growing near the house steps. She wore jean shorts that seemed to shrink even more to reveal more of her legs. The shirt she was wearing was loose and baggy, it had a logo on it for a sports team but she couldn’t read it from where she walked, and did not even care. Luka just wanted her.
“Take me upstairs, now.”
