Bonding

Since the last meeting with the werewolf, Luka couldn’t help but dive into any plans involving the enemy. She made herself present during patrols of the vampire world and territory, not a single moment of rest was able to catch her. If she dropped the ball it could result in a missed opportunity to hold back any of her colony from attacking the new obsession that she had driven her teeth into.

‘Thinking of you’

The message is still dancing in the vampire’s brain, making her chest tense and blood flowing through her veins. It became a high that Luka was used to feeling before launching the final blow to a kill or after a long feast of blood. It was something that hee kind had always chased for and did anything to keep the drunken feeling close. It caused Luka to drool at the thought of the werewolf chasing her like hunted prey as Luka did the same.

She got up from her perch from the outdoor restaurant deck, hand in pocket pulling out a few bucks to throw half hazardously on the table while swiftly walking away. Her feet placed each foot in great leaps away from the other, covering more ground to reach its target. Eyes locked forward not even acknowledging her fellow ghouls who would dip their head in respect to her, the rank she carried didn’t matter. The only thing that matters is the werewolf.

Miku.

Only her.

The inhuman hearing that gifted the vampire’s body heard heart beats that picked up in pace and then back down. The rhythm was still faster than normal which indicated to Luka that who she was hearing wasn’t the typical person.

It’s her puppy.

As the heart beats grew louder, the turquoise long hair started to come in view. The hair was tied back in the twintails she wore last time, evenly placed at the sides of her head with pretty pink flowers that poked out at the edges of the hair. Luka heard the wolf swear with heaps of frustration interwoven in her words. The vampire slid her phone out of the back pocket, sending a message to Miku, as a warning that she was near. It was something that Luka thrives on, making her targets panic before they can lay eyes on her.

Miku stopped walking and read the message, the sound of her heartbeat picked up again.

“I think your senses are broken, pup.”

The girl turned around having her turquoise eyes meet blue. Her raised eyebrows began to sink to their original appearance, her canines popping out on the sides of her smile.

“Luka, I wasn’t expecting you,” She said.

“You were thinking about me huh?” The vampire walked closer to the teen, having their skin brush lightly as they walked on the paved path.

“I was.” Miku confused, her cheeks becoming pink while she lifted her head to give the ghoul another glance. “What brings you out on this full moon?”

Luka looked up to the clouds that slowly crossed the sky. Why did she come to see the werewolf? It felt like pure instinct to come and follow the girl and yet nothing was begging to rip her away from Miku’s side. “I am allowed to walk around and explore shit during the full moon. You wolves don’t own the night.”

“I know we don’t, but you are playing a dangerous game. Everyone will be out and hunting,” she gives a serious look, hoping that this would strike a cord within the vampire.

“Believe it or not, but I have taken a werewolf down before all by myself. I have generations of your kind.”

“And I think it made you a little too cocky,” Miku smirked, bumping into Luka to have her trip over her own feet.

“With years of practice, I think I can afford to be cocky,” Luka smiled, showing the edges of her fangs. “But if I was against you, I could make you beg within seconds.”

Miku gave a flirtatious chuckle before putting her finger on the vampire’s nose for a small tap. “I have never begged for anything, and I don’t think a silly vampire could make me.”

Luka could feel the warmth in her chest glow upon hearing the challenge from the werewolf. She felt her own cheeks warm to the thought of the other girl being controlled under her grasps, seeking approval. The thought of her own lips on the neck of the smaller girl, while fangs itched to leave marks to have a response of a sharp gasp exhale her lips. The thought was making her drunk.

‘What in 1000 years of vampirism is she thinking?’

Luka had mentally slapped herself awake, she was dancing with her own death. Unconsciously flirting with the one thing that could send her to the bottom of a muddy grave if she was lucky, if the Kagamine twins had their way first… she didn’t want to think about it. The woman shuddered.

“Are you cold?” Miku asked about breaking the mental warfare within Luka.

“A chill won’t kill me, I’ll be fine.” Luka muttered.

Miku swung her backpack to the side of her, a loud zip could be heard. She fished through her things to pull out a sweatshirt and proceeded to hand it to the vampire. “Put this on.”

“I said I’m fi-“

“Just put it on. I didn’t notice that you walked this far into werewolf territory, my clothing will hide your smell.” Miku shoved the fabric back to the ghoul. Luka obeyed her instructions and pulled the dark navy sweatshirt over her head. The smell of wolf and vanilla filled her own nose, it was strong enough for even the most scent blinded vampire could pick up a hint of it.

“Thank you, but will this really help?”

“Mhmmm, one more thing,” Miku thought and then reached for the pale face, pulling Luka down to her height. “Hold still.” The werewolf ordered as she proceeded to lick her forehead, Luka pulled back fast bewildered.

“What the hell was that for?”

“I was covering your scent! Now you reek of me.” Miku shrugged while looking over her own shoulder to see a few fellow werewolves walk out of a house. “Now come on, it’s too late for you to just walk out.”

Miku grabbed Luka’s hand as they continued to walk down the path. The vampire was unsure on what to do, she was entering a world that she would have never dared. The houses were unfamiliar to her and the uncertainty of how many occupants housed them. The trees seemed to develop a curtain over their world serving as protection from the outside pressure of humans and vampires alike.

“This is my home.” Miku stopped them to gesture to the house before them. The front of the house was a large window where the orange glow of the indoor lights seeped out to the yard, the wooden planked exterior gave off a rustic feel with smells of mother nature wafting in the waves.

“Cute.”

“Just follow my lead and I promise you’ll be fine to return to your colony,” she explained, her eyes wide and glimmering under the fading light of the sun that poked out of the trees. Both of her hands held onto Luka’s one hand, her thumbs were rough but rubbed the tops of her hand. The first time Miku really tried to place as much thought into her actions to gain trust of her blood sucking friend.

“I trust you,” Luka whispered. “But this is the only time I’m letting a wolf lead me.”

Miku nodded and tugged on her arm to pull them up the driveway to the front door. Deep breaths escaped the both of them as she pushed the door in to greet three glowing eyes that gave them the full attention. A woman, a man, and a younger man stared from Miku to Luka, and then back to Miku.

Her chin held high, Miku had them take a step deeper in the home so the door would close. “Mom, dad, Kaito, this is a friend. She wanted to wolf out with me.”

The woman, guessing to be her mother stepped closer having her mouth slightly parted smelling them. Luka began to sweat, her shirt was clinging to her back begging for a cold air to release it from the owner. Her mother placed a hand on Luka’s shoulder, her nails were long and crinkled the fabric under their touch. A smile widened on her face, it made the vampire’s heart sink to her stomach. Oh no.

“Any friend of my daughter is a friend of mine,” she finally says, then looking over to her husband. The stubble bearded man smiles, showing his canines and raises a beer in hand in welcome. Her mother looked back to Luka, “I didn’t know another pack was so close?” She questioned.

“Mom, can you let us go? The moon is almost up, I want to get out of this shirt before I rip it.” Miku cut the conversation, the woman let go of her friend and let the pair of them dash upstairs.

“Let me know if your room is too small for your bonding time before the moon is up?!” Her mother called after the two, in which Miku responded with a groan and slamming the door.

“I’m sorry about that, she’s so noisy,” Miku sighed as she threw her backpack in the closet and shut the door and flopped onto the bed.

Luka looked around taking notes on the werewolf's bedroom, the walls were a pale sage with wooden furniture. The corner that was closest to the closet had a hamper that was half filled, more clothes on the floor missing the basket. Miku’s bed was on the far other wall with a nightstand next to it, and a desk near the window. A large dresser with large scratches carved into it was closer to the other wall where the hamper was.

“Your room is kind of a mess,” Luka raised an eyebrow as she sat next to her.

Miku sat up and elbowed the ghoul. “Shut up, I didn’t have time to prepare.”

“Well what do we do now?”

Miku thought and looked around her room, working on a plan before sharing. “So you’ll need to hide in the closet when I start to morph, and stay there till morning.”

“Are you serious?”

“Yes… I just don’t want to hurt you when I wolf out.” She stood up and started to pace in the room.

“Ok, ok.” She agreed to the plan to save Miku from any more stress. “What did your mom mean about bonding time? Is that code for werewolf playing or fighting?”

“What?”

“Is bonding time like code for something?” Luka asked again in an attempt to stop Miku from worrying.

Miku started to turn red and shift uncomfortably “It’s hmm how do I say…” she started to mumble and kicked her shoes under the bed. “Ya know ahh it’s yeah mmm.”

“Well spit it out will you?” Luka grew a little frustrated with her beating around the bush.

“My mom got the wrong idea and thinks me and you are like not friends.” She says, her face getting redder to the point that if Luka was to place her hand on her cheek she could feel warmth.

“Then what?” She questioned further. The older woman tilted her head to the side letting her pink hair waterfall over her shoulder. Luka knew what Miku might have been leading to, the ‘not friends’ comment had clued her in.

“She thought I bought a girlfriend over.”

“So this full moon means a little bit more to your family than normal huh?”
