You can stay tonight

Puss in Boots! Puss in Boots! – People cheered in the town’s square after Puss in Boots defeated the local oppressor, he laughed and started playing his, now famously known, song. People sang in harmony with him.

Who is your favourite fearless hero? Who is your favourite fearless hero? – He sang as people joined into his chant. You sighed and left, walking through dark alleys of the misty town. You walked towards a local bar slowly, unsurely. When you entered the local area no one was there. The inside was as lonely as you.

Everyone was out cheering for the legendary Puss in Boots. You knew how different you two were, he was bold – He was the one who laughed into Death’s face – And you? You wouldn't dare to even snicker at Death, his face was too well–known for you. Each lonely night, each night you walked towards the local bar, passing by the legends. Death was there to greet you.

His white fur was an oddly comforting sight in your sad life. You almost never talked with each other, the presence of you two there was enough. You always found the great hero, Puss in Boots, quite foolish. He never realised that Death was always there, always present when he laughed into his face.

Today’s night was no different, you took a seat next to the table, ordering a beer. You felt the room’s aura changing, a thunderbolt lashed out, you saw the white light reflecting in the windows of the bar. All of the candles got blown out, when the thunder calmed down, you felt the white wolf’s presence, he took a seat next to you.

At first you thought he was after you, but you quickly realised, he never took the first step, you did. You were searching out for him yourself. You wanted to take the first step, but you never did. And when those thoughts were stuck in your mind, there he was, knocking on your door, silently waiting for you to open it. And so you did, each and every time. His presence was so comforting, you almost saw him as a friend, someone you could trust. He was the only one who would show up when you felt like that.

That’s how you found yourself sitting and drinking with Death in the flesh. He started to whistle, the sound filled the room, you didn’t mind. You never really understood the things going on around you. And that’s why you didn’t notice the white wolf’s stance shifting after a loud bell voiced its presence in town. Death took his time standing up, he looked at you and nodded, heading out. You sighed tiredly – one more evening was over, you had many more evenings to go.

On your travels towards nowhere, you had the honor of meeting The Three Bears Crime Family themself. They tried to rob you at first but after realising you had nothing to offer, they tried to move past you. You ran after them, offering your help with finding the Wishing Star. Goldilocks wasn’t convinced but her Mama accepted the offer, much to Goldi’s dismay.

You bonded with everyone except Goldi in no time. Baby Bear liked you for being cool and Mama and Papa Bear were keen on you for being an "old soul". Goldilocks disliked your tired attire, she didn’t believe you when you said you had no catch in offering help. She believed you wanted to have the wish for yourself. That's why you were confused when she walked over to you one sleepless night.

You were sitting a walk away from three sleeping bears and Goldilocks. At times like this, the big white wolf would accompany you with his whistle, but he was nowhere to be found. You sighed and rubbed the sleep from your eyes, looking at the night sky.

You heard shuffling behind you, but had no care to look back. You felt someone take a seat next to you. – You, what are ya' doin'? – She said, quite offended, she crossed her hands over her chest.

– I couldn't sleep. – You said, still looking at the bright stars.

– Oi, what's yar deal anyway, huh? – She said, looking at you. – Don't you have family, friends to go back to?

– No… Not really. – You said quickly, almost nervously with Goldi next to you, she picked up on your nervousness, feeling more uneasy than before.

– I don't believe ya' snob. – She huffed at you, waiting for the desired answer.

– There is someone I guess… – You said, uncomfortably changing your pose, you felt Goldi move closer. – Death.

– Death? – She said, confused, you blushed at how close she was. You could see her pointed teeth from this distance, they shone in the moonlight.

– I sometimes see him, hear him. He always waits for me. The closest thing I get to a family. – You said looking before you, seeing a glimpse of him. She shifted when you mentioned a family. – But it always seems like I'm the one seeking out for him, I- I just don't see the point in going further Goldi… – You said while looking away from her.

– What do ya' mean Y/N..? – She said, losing her composure. You never saw her so vulnerable.

– I don't think I want to live like this anymore Goldi. – You said, her presence comforted you, just like the wolf did.

– Have you ever..? – She said worriedly. You quickly murmured a yes and felt the weird tension rise. You stood up, feeling the awkwardness, you knew that Goldi didn't know how to react. – I should go back to sleep.

You said, tears showed up in the corners of your eyes, but felt her hand wrap around your wrist. You looked back at her with teary eyes.

She sighed and looked at you slightly annoyed. – Ya' can stay, if ya' want… But just tonight.– She said while looking away, you could swear you saw blush on her face.

You gladly stayed and sat close to her, taking her into an embrace, you buried your teary face into the crook of her neck, you felt her stiffen. – Wha… – She murmured but didn't push you away. She slowly took her hands up and hugged you back. Finally, you felt her body relax too.

She was warm and nice, you almost melted into the embrace. She smelled like the pine forest and flowers, you were head over heels for her. She started to play with your hair and brush through it with her fingers. Your breathing became slow and relaxed, you knew she won't show you this vulnerability a lot so you had to enjoy the moment while it lasted.

You felt yourself drifting to sleep, but Goldi stayed awake for some time after that. She wondered about you and your story. After some time she felt herself let out a tired sigh and fall asleep too.

From the tree line a familiar whistle voiced itself out. The big white wolf scared the trees next to him with his weapon while watching two of you sleeping. Goldi was holding you protectively, no matter how much she disliked you, she still felt herself falling for you, hard. She was still weirded out by the feeling.

Death laughed as he turned his back at you. – See you soon, Y/N. – He said while walking away, he wouldn't visit the two of you for a long time after that.
