Chapter 5
Kate feels better everyday. Her shoulder is healing and her ribs are not hurting as much anymore.
It is Sunday morning and Lucy has to go back to work the next day.
They decide to go for a walk on the beach after breakfast.
They sit at their favorite spot and watch some of the surfers riding the waves.
Lucy takes Kate’s hand in her’s and leans her head on the blonde’s shoulder.
“Can I ask you a question?” Lucy asks carefully
“Sure, what do you want to know?” the blonde replies
“Do you ever talk to your parents? I never hear you talking about your family. I was just wondering! It is ok, if you don’t want to talk about it.” Lucy adds.
“No, it’s ok. I need you to know everything about me. So that is part of me.”
"My Dad used to be in the military so we used to moved a lot. Mom took care of Noah and me. Noah followed my Dad’s footsteps and enlisted in 2006. It was not the same when Noah left. Noah was always their favorite. But my parents were happy, that I was straight A-student and picked Northwestern as a college. My Dad is retired now, and they live in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland. I was at Northwestern when Noah was ambushed and killed. We were all lost after Noah’s death so I never moved back after I graduated. My parents and I drifted apart over the years. Working for DIA was not easy, because I couldn’t really tell them what I was doing. So there was not much to tell on phone calls. Sometimes I go home for Thanksgiving, but they always ask, if I am married and when I finally will have kids. Noah knew that I wasn’t into guys and he was there when I told my parents. They were not really fond of that and always thought it was just a face. I have not seen them for over 3 years. I talk with them on birthdays and holidays, but that is about it.
Lucy lifts her head and looks at Kate. “Did you ever think of getting married? And do you want kids?”
“Hmm, I was never in a situation were I had to think about it. I didn’t want to get married or have any kids with any of the people I was with. But I feel different with you. I would love to be married to you and be your wife someday and I think I would like having kids with you if you wanted them. I could see myself running after little mini Lucy’s!”.
Lucy grins and leans into Kate. “Oh yeah?” she challenges and kisses Kate.
“Yeah,” Kate says loosing herself in Lucy’s eyes.
“Well maybe when you call your parents next time you tell them about us. How happy you are, also that you are now a FBI special agent. I would love them to have a reason to be proud of you! Lucy suggests
Kate thinks about it and nods. “I can always try.”
What about your parents Luce?
Lucy makes a face.
“Well that is a whole other story.” She sighs.
“We got time. I like to know if you don’t mind. It’s always good to know what I am dealing with.”
“Fine!” Lucy takes a deep breath.
“The Tara’s are very well know in Texas. My dad is in the oil business. I grew up rich. Had everything I ever wanted as long as I was playing by the rules. My family likes to control us kids with money. I did not like that. I came out when I was 14 years old, but my parents told me to keep it quiet. It was not fitting with our social status. My dad wanted me to run the business after college, but I never was interested in doing that. Early on I was involved into business meetings and knew quickly that it was not what I wanted to do with my life. Plus he wanted me to get married to a man. Our family was not a loving family. Money was the most important thing in their lives. I was the black sheep in the family being gay. We had lots of arguments and fights. I went to college and got a business degree and met a recruiter for NCIS there. I loved what I heard and went to FLETC. Tennant found me there."
"When my dad found out that I wanted to go into law enforcement he lost it. It was beneath a Tara. Also he could not manipulate me anymore. So I walked away from my family and found another one, a loving one with Tennant and my team. And then I found you! I have everything I ever dreamed about. My parents cut me off as much as they could. But they always hoping I come to my senses and return to the family business. But I really walked away from money, prestige, family and social status. I don’t want it. I call my parents here and then, but mostly I speak to my oldest brother Oliver. He is level headed and always supported me in my decisions. He is working for my Dad, but always keeps me updated with new developments. Maybe you can meet him someday!”
“I would love that Luce. I am glad you have your brother on your side. I am sorry your parents aren’t supportive either.”
She is looking straight in Lucy’s eyes: “I guess it is just you and me against the world. I know we can make it. We can have a beautiful life together. At least that is what I want with you!”
Kate swallows hard. A tear is rolling down her cheek.
“Luce, I wish I had never hurt you the way I did. I beat myself up everyday. I want to be honest with you in everything. I know one thing for sure. I can’t live without your love anymore. You are so special to me. I promise you I will always be your family if you let me. I will always love you, forever.”
Lucy pulls Kate closer to her and deeply kisses her. The blonde reciprocate immediately. Lucy moves on Kate’s lap. They holding each other close while their feelings for each other are running wild.
They get interrupted by Lucy’s rumbling stomach.
Kate laughs. “Do you want to get some Fish Tacos?” she asks
Lucy gets up and helps Kate on her feet.
Kate is getting exhausted so they decide to take the tacos home and call it a day.
They eat their tacos and snuggle on the couch. Kate falls asleep in Lucy’s arms.
They spend the rest of the day watching movies on TV and being with each other.
Lucy feels a deep connection to Kate, something she hadn’t really felt before. She is longing for her. Her touch, her scent, her laugh, it is driving her crazy. She is thinking about the conversation they had on the beach about marriage and kids.
She knows in her mind without a doubt, she wants to be with Kate. So marriage does not sound far fetched. Given the hurt Kate caused her, intentionally or not, she decides to visit this idea again after 6 months. She needs to be able to trust Kate again fully.

Lucy is back at work and heavily involved in a new case. She has texted Kate a couple of times, to check on her, but has to head out with Kai and Jesse to pick up some suspects.
It’s 11pm and she is still interrogating one of the suspects with Kai.
She isn’t going to be able to see Kate until 3 days later. They finally close the case and Lucy is hurrying to Kate’s apartment.
Kate had just awakened from her afternoon nap when Lucy knocks on her door.
“I missed you so much,” Lucy says as she wraps her arms around Kate’s neck and kisses her like a crazy person.
“I missed you too,” Kate smiles. “Are you staying for awhile today?”
Lucy smiles sheepish. “Well the case is closed and Tennant gave us off tomorrow to have a longer weekend. There will be a party at Tennant’s though tomorrow evening.
“Yeah, I got an invite too.” Kate says with a smile on her face.
Lucy continues: "I have not told anybody that we are back together. Only Tennant knows, but she has not said anything to the team. Ernie keeps bugging me. Asking if I had seen you and if we are back together. I know he keeps tabs on me and knows I have been over here for over a week. So I told him we are and that we had the complicated talk. I told him you did the “Say Anything” Gesture in front of my apartment. He was like: “Awesome, go Whistler! We literally have a cheerleader on our side!”
They both fall into laughter.
Kate takes Lucy back into her arms and asks gently: “Would you like to stay with me until we have to go back to work Monday morning? I have a lot of catching up to do, to get to know you better.”
“Does that include cuddles and make out with you as well?”
Kate smirks. “Oh yes, most definitely!”
Ok, I will go to my apartment quickly to grab all the cloths and things I need for the next couple of days. Anything you need while I am out? Lucy asks
“No, I just need you!” she replies with a grin on her face.
“Ok, I will be back before you know it.” Lucy kisses Kate passionately before she grabs her keys and leaves.

“Are you ready to go?” Lucy yells toward the bathroom
“Yes almost done” Kate yells back
“Don’t forget to grab the Chili”
“Way ahead of you!” Lucy replies
They are the first to arrive at Tennant’s place. Lucy asks Kate to go down to the backyard with her. When she was in her apartment to grab some cloths she remembered the matching bracelets she had made before they broke up. She wants a couple of minutes of alone time with Kate before everyone is here.
They sit down on the grass. Lucy gives Kate a kiss and takes her hand.
“Kate, I have something I made for us before we broke up. I think I am ready to give it to you now. Over the last couple of weeks we have talked about things, cleared up misunderstandings and learned a lot about each other. I never loved you more than right now. I feel save with you again. I want to give you something to remind you, that I am all in and committed to our relationship. I don't want to be without you ever again. You are the love of my life.
I made this bracelet for you. It has my name on it, so you will never forget where I stand.
It is a promise for the future from me to you.”
Kate has tears in her eyes. The bracelet is beautiful. It looks like a traditional Hawaiian bracelet with Lucy’s name as beads waved in.
Lucy puts it on Kate’s wrist and gives her a soft kiss. Kate hugs her.
With wet eyes she looks at Lucy. “This means everything to me,” she says
“Did you make one with my name on it too?” she questions Lucy.
Lucy nods and hands it to her. It looks the same, just with Kate’s name on it.
Kate looks at Lucy and says: “Lucy, thanks for trusting me again. You have no idea how much this means to me. I am in love with you for so long. I promise I will never hurt you again the way I did. You will never be alone again or have to question my love. You are it for me. You always were. I love you from the bottom of my heart. I am forever yours!”
Now it is Lucy’s turn to cry. Kate puts the bracelet on Lucy and takes her into her arms.
“I love you so much Lucy Tara,” the blond says and kisses her deeply.
Jane had been on the porch quietly and witnessed all of it. She is so happy and relieved.
The lovebirds walk up the stairs and help Jane to get everything ready.
Jane looks at Kate from the side and grins. “Let me see it!” she asks
Kate blushes and stretches her arm out to Jane. Jane admires the bracelet.
“It is beautiful Kate! That took a lot of work and thought to make this. That is really something special. And it coming from Lucy, it is super special.” she laughs.
“Yes it means a lot to me. Especially what it represents for both of us. I know it is not a proposal, but it is darn close. I am really speechless right now! I thought I lost her for good. I will cherish this forever!”
They hear voices from outside. That means the team is here.
Jesse and Heather are the first to come thru the door, followed by Kai, Ernie and Commander Chase.
Joe, Wally, Hina, Boom Boom and Pike are on their way.
Ernie sneaks in behind Kate. He whispers: “So a Lloyd gesture, huh?”
Kate grins at him and nods. “Sweet,” he says and high five’s her.
Then he see’s the bracelet and his eyes are getting big. “What is this?” he asks.
“Lucy made it and gave it to me today with a promise. It is a token of our love and commitment to our relationship. She has the same with my name on it.” Kate is trying hard to hold back her tears.
“It’s beautiful Kate! You have no idea how happy I am to see you guys back together. It warms my heart.” Ernie’s eyes are beaming.
Joe arrives and makes drinks for everyone.
The rest of the team has arrived and there is tons of food. Jesse notices Lucy having her arm around Kate.
“Are you guys back together?” he asks
Lucy grins at him and looks at Kate. “Yes we are back together for good,” she says.
Jesse smiles and yells to the group: Hey guys, I want to make a toast to Lucy and Kate! I am glad you are back together. It’s about time!
Everyone is raising their glasses. “Too Lucy and Kate!”
