Chapter 6
6 months later
Lucy’s thoughts are buried deep in the paper pile in front of her. She is desperately trying to find a connection between two victims and the suspect. She does not hear approaching footsteps.
Kate stops in front of Lucy’s desk. Lucy has not noticed.
Kate grins.
“Sorry to interrupt, but did you have lunch yet?” Kate finally asks
Lucy looks up. “Sorry what did you say? My mind was somewhere else!” she says with an apologetic look.
“That explains why you did not reply to my text. Did you have lunch?” Kate asks again
The brunette shakes her head.
“Then let’s go to get some lunch and give your mind a break.”
She takes Lucy by the hand and drags her outside.
“Do you want to get some tacos?” she asks Lucy
“Sure, let’s go to the food cart over there” she points to the food cart plaza across the street.
As they make their way over there, Kate takes Lucy’s hand and looks at her.
“Have you found a suitable apartment yet?” she inquires
Lucy lowers her eyes and shakes her head.
Kate continues: “I have an idea and I was wondering if you like to come over for dinner tonight? If you not busy! I cook us dinner and we can talk.”
Lucy’s eyes sparkle. Secretly she was hoping to move in with Kate. She loved her and wanted nothing more than to be with her all the time. But she did not know, if Kate was ready for that. And the brunette did not want to pressure the blonde either.
Maybe she would test the waters tonight and see where Kate’s thought was on that.
With a big grin and a sweet kiss she nods at Kate.
They have a quick lunch and return back to the bullpen.
Kate had offered to help Lucy to find the connections in the pending case. Papers are spread all over the desk. But nothing stands out.
“Maybe we are looking at this the wrong way,” Lucy states with a loud sigh.
Jane can see that their brains are fried and tells them to go home and rest and give it a fresh look in the morning.
As they walk out, Kate stops Lucy.
“Do you want to leave your car here until tomorrow and stay the night with me? We both have to be back early in the morning anyway. It would make more sense!” she reasons
“Really Whistler that is the best excuse you can come up with why I should spend the night with you? Lucy asks slyly.
Kate grins. “You know what I want. I want you!”
And then she leans in and whispers all the things she wants to do to Lucy.
“That is what I thought! So no more lame excuses in the future, especially if nobody is around, ok?” Lucy says with a grin on her face.
Kate smiles back and nods.
The drive home is surprisingly quiet. Lucy is deep in thought. She is a little nervous about the apartment situation she is facing, how she is able to afford a new place and what ideas Kate as to offer. She is ready to take the next step with Kate. Moving in together is on her mind. But she does not know how to ask Kate.
After Kate cleaned up her shoes and hung up her purse she walks over to Lucy. Pulls her into a hug and kisses her passionately.
“Kate, I have been thinking about us.” Lucy says slowly
Kate gives her a confused look. Worried about what is coming next.
“I am just going to say how I feel. I need to take a chance.” Lucy continues with a big sigh.
“I love you so much, that I really want to be with you all the time. I want to wake up to your face in the morning and go to sleep seeing your face before I fall asleep. I dream about you all the time. I want to be able to love you the way you deserve to be loved, not just occasionally. So I am ready for the next step. Looking for a new apartment made me realize how much I want to have a place together with you. Would you like to look for a new place for us together? Or are you not ready for that yet?” Lucy holds her breath. Hands shaking.
Kate is speechless. She is trying to hold back tears. She did not expect Lucy to tell her how she feels about them in such detail. The brunette normally is hesitant when it comes to feelings. The tall woman feels so loved at this moment.
Her hands grab Lucy’s cheeks and their lips smash together. It gets intense. Both show the other how much they love them. They pull apart for air. Kate looks deep into Lucy’s eyes.
“I would love nothing more, then to share a place and my life with you!” she says with tears streaming down her face now.
“You love this apartment and all the amenities it has. I had planned on asking you today, if you would like to move in with me into this apartment? But if you want to get something else with me that would be ok too. I just don’t want to be without you anymore!”
Now Lucy is lost for words.
Kate smiles. “Let me cook dinner and let’s talk about it later while we snuggle on the couch. That way you can think about it for a little bit. Why don’t you go shower and when you done, dinner should be ready.
Lucy gives Kate a big hug and a soft kiss and disappears into the bedroom.
She can think best in the shower. Replaying all the words in her mind she knows that tonight is there perfect time to propose to Kate. She had thought about it now for a while, but never found the right time to do it.
Once dressed she looks for the little velvet box in her backpack. She stuffs it into her pocket.
Dinner is ready and it smells amazing.
Lucy gets plates and mason jars for the wine.
After dinner the brunette washes the dishes while Kate takes her turn with the shower.
Lucy stands on the balcony thinking about how lucky she is. There is no one like Kate. She looks up to the stars and listens to the waves crashing onto the beach.
Kate sneaks up behind her putting her arms around her hips.
“What are you thinking about my beautiful love?” she asks
Lucy smirks and turns around facing the blonde.
“Thinking about how lucky I am having a person like you as my girlfriend. You love me unconditionally. You care, you make me feel special and you always have my back.
I can’t imagine my life without you anymore. I know it for awhile now, but today you saying you want nothing else, then to live your life with me was all I needed to hear, because I want the exact same thing. Kate, you are the love of my life! I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Forever!”
Lucy goes down on one knee. Opening the velvet box: “Kate, will you marry me and make me the happiest person in this world?” she asks smiling at Kate
Kate is staring at the brunette kneeling in front of her. She feels hot and cold at the same time.
Oh my god, what just happened? Her head is spinning.
Tears of joy running down her cheeks.
“Yes!” she says pulling Lucy up and kissing her.
“Yes?” Lucy tilts her head asking again with a smile
“Absolutely, a thousand times Yes!” Kate replies sniffling
Lucy take this beautiful rose gold diamond ring and puts it on Kate’s left ring finger and gives her a soft kiss on her lips. Then she kisses away Kate’s tears on her cheeks.
Kate shivers, because it is getting cool outside.
They cuddle on the couch.
Kate takes Lucy’s hand. “So, have you thought about us living together? What would you like to do?”
“As long as I am with you, I don’t really care where I live. You are my home. I am happy wherever you are. But I guess for now, I could move in here, if you ok with that and maybe later we buy a house or find a place we both like and can afford,” Lucy suggests
“That sounds really good Luce! Gosh, I am so in love with you! All I can think of is you right now!”
“Wait here for a second, I need to get something real quick!” the blonde says
Lucy has a surprised look on her face when Kate comes back. She has a little box in her hand and Lucy knows immediately what it is.
Kate pulls Lucy up so she can better look her in the eye.
She takes a deep breath
“I had the same feeling about you Luce! I bought this ring last month, because I wanted to be with you for the rest of my life. I had fallen so deeply in love with you, that I knew there was never going to be a way out of it. You beat me to it, but I am ok with that. I am so happy that you feel the exact same way. My love for you is endless. I will always be there for you in good and bad times. No more secrets ever again. Just love and honesty.”
Kate kneels down now with the box in her hand. “Lucy will you be my wife?”
Yes, baby! I can’t wait to be your wife! Lucy whispers softly
The blonde puts the ring on Lucy’s finger and hugs her tightly. They stand embraced in the hug for a while, not moving.
Lucy can’t wait any longer and starts kissing Kate. Kate deepens the kiss. Fingers are all over each other removing pieces of cloths. Without any warning, the blonde swoops up the tiny woman and carries her into the bedroom.
They both know, this night will feel different than any other night before. The prospect of a life together has their hearts filled with joy!
