Just take it slow.
"Okay so.. What do you take when you go into the open in a world that might be in an apocalypse.." JJ says looking at his and Lucas' belongings trying to think of what they should take.. "Well gun obviously.. grab your axe, uhhh bring your bag too because im gonna raid the shit out of the walmart bro" Lucas says which makes JJ laugh. They both grab all the stuff they need and head towards the front door. As they exit they notice most of the usual cars aren't in the neighborhood, there's no kids playing outside like usual, nobody doing any kind of roadwork.. It looks like a ghost town. "Okay dude something is up. This neighborhood has like 50 people and everyones gone. There's only that truck over there." JJ says pointing to a large red truck left in the driveway of a house. Lucas starts walking in the direction of the truck without responding. JJ follows him "Are you gonna steal the truck" he asks as Lucas tries to open the door "Yep." He replies with a smile, to his surprise the door was completely unlocked.
Lucas reaches down to some wires and starts picking at them, touching certain ones together until the truck starts. He gives JJ a very confident look as he laughs and gets into the driver's seat. "How the hell did you learn how to do that? '' JJ asks, sounding slightly concerned. "Calm down you baby, I dont steal cars or anything. My dad does. He taught me" Lucas replies "WHAT?! What do you mean he steals cars??" JJ asks in a slight yell. "I don't really know, he gets requests from buyers about what cars they want, he steals it, changes the plates gets paid.." Lucas says as he drivers to the store, eyes not as focused on the road as they should be
They finally arrive at a strip mall, about 7 different stores and every single parking lot empty. Not a single car or person in sight. "Yeah dude something is up, think there's zombies in there?" Lucas asks, obviously teasing JJ but there's a hint of seriousness in his voice. "God I hope not." JJ says with a sigh as Lucas parks the truck in front of the entrance for an easy getaway. They both get out and head into the first store, a walmart. "Soo what the hell do we need?" Lucas genuinely having no clue what to do in the event of an apocalypse. "Uhhhh food?, clothes, as much medicine as we can get.. Weapons and hygiene stuff" JJ replies to him making a mental shopping list
They browse around the store, filling multiple carts with everything they might need, and random stuff like legos, a TON of energy drinks, pokemon cards because who doesn't want that in the apocalypse, "Alright man.. I think that's probably enough for a good while.." Lucas says as he finishes loading all their items into the truck "OH wait.. Wanted to hit the smoke shop, it has always been a dream of mine to raid a smoke shop in the apocalypse." Lucas says with a laugh as they head to the smoke shop next to the walmart. Lucas grabs every pack of cigarettes, every single disposable, a few box mods and their pieces, a new bong, and an insane amount of vape juice. "Good god dude, that's enough to last a lifetime" JJ says with a laugh as he helps grab everything "Aye man, gotta keep sane somehow" Lucas replies.
"Lucas uhh.. I think there's something out there.." JJ says as he looks out the glass door to the shop, seeing a human looking thing limping.. Looks like a stereotypical zombie. Lucas finishes grabbing everything and walks towards JJ to look out the door. "Yeah man, that's a zombie." Lucas says with a nervous laugh. He hands JJ the bag he put everything into and goes to open the door, grabbing his gun. "Wait dude don't get bit or anything.." JJ says nervously, "Relax man, I'll be fine, stay behind me and run to the truck as soon as you can." Lucas says pushing the door open, gaining the attention of the creature as it limps over towards the boys. *BANG* The sound of the gun firing made JJ jump, it was silenced but being so close to it was still loud. The boys both run towards the truck as the creature falls to the ground from the shot in the head.
"That was the first time I hit a moving target." Lucas says, obviously proud of himself for killing it on the first try. "WHAT, you were gonna let us die?!" JJ says yelling at him slightly "Relax we didn't die, gotta have confidence man." Lucas replies as he drives back to their house.
They get back to the house and Lucas parks the truck across the street, if sound does attract the zombies he doesn't want them coming in the house. "Get your axe and sweep the house." he tells JJ as he begins grabbing items from the backseat "I can't do that, what if i get bit man." JJ says in disbelief he would even suggest it. "C'mon gotta get experience killing em somehow" Lucas says as he hands JJ the axe and gestures towards the house. JJ hesitantly agrees, walking towards the house with a death grip on his axe. He checks every corner, every room and even the backyard "It's all clear" he says with a relieving sigh. The boys take turns going to the truck and grabbing items, the other one following behind with a weapon.. Just in case.
"Alright! All set for the end of the world.." Lucas says with a laugh. 'How can he be so carefree.. I mean he just killed a zombie.. That thing used to have a family and shit.' JJ thinks to himself as he eyes the items they bought on the table, completely forgetting to respond to Lucas and leaving a slightly awkward silence. "So.. where you wanna keep your shit? I got a few empty drawers in my room if you wanna take em." Lucas says trying to break the silence "Oh yeah, that sounds good thanks.." JJ says as he grabs the items he picked, going to set them in Lucas' spare drawers. After he's done he flops down on the bed next to Lucas, close but not close enough to make things awkward. "We probably need a plan" JJ says looking at Lucas, the eye contact making his cheeks heat up and his mind go fuzzy. "Alright what do you got in mind?" Lucas asks "Uhhh, depends honestly, if the city goes to shit I recommend we go west a little, lots of farm houses out there.. Maybe find a few people in the process. For the time being this place seems safe enough, stores will probably go to hell though." JJ says trying his best to keep calm despite the insane situation around him. "Sounds good, well just take it slow." Lucas replies, smiling at JJ.
