Back To School
The incessant buzzing of his alarm pulled Schroeder from a wonderful dream in which everyone sang instead of speaking. With a sigh he slapped at his nightstand until the sound stopped. Six am was a horrible time, especially in the dead of winter. No one should ever have to get up before the sun. It was a crime against humanity.
For a moment Schroeder considered pulling the blankets over his head and pretending he had forgotten that today marked the end of winter break and a return to the drudgery that was high school. Not that it was likely to work. If he wasn't down to breakfast in the next few minutes his mother would be knocking on his door.
His phone buzzed then played the familiar strains of Heart and Soul and for a moment Schroeder blinked sleepily before realizing where the music was coming from. He patted around then found it on the other pillow where he had left it the previous night. It showed one text message from Linus and Schroeder tapped the icon to open it.
Ugh! Why is it morning? I hate getting up this early!1! I'll be there at 7:30 to pick you up. Need caffeine and kisses to wake up. Miss you.
Schroeder tapped a quick reply then set the phone carefully on his nightstand. Mornings still sucked and he sure as hell would rather stay in bed, but at least now he had someone to commiserate with.
