this was it. king matthew stood at the entrance to the war fields. yelling, screaming, blood. it went on for as far as the eye could see. the king shed a tear, being reminded of his lover who fought off enemies at the start of the war. the dark clouds that covered the sky filled matthew with woe.
matt missed his queen dearly. he always believed in the possibility that she was still alive, but no one counted on it. the kingdom’s doctor and well known nurse, tord larkingson, took aid in the king when he fell into a deep depression over losing his queen. “it’s fine, your majesty!” tord would say. “im sure her highness is quite alright..”
he walked along the grass of the fields. his soldiers stopped when they saw a dark purple cape drag along the ground. everyone stopped, even the enemies. the king saw a sparkle in the grass. he slowly walked towards it, feeling a sense of hope wash over him.
it was the queen’s crown. king matthew smiled, and kneeled down to pick up the crown. it was tailored to fit y/n’s head, and was covered in many (f/c) jewels of different sizes and shapes. he held it close to his chest, crying loudly. one soldier from behind tapped the king’s shoulder. he turned around, it was paul with his partner in crime, patryck.
“your majesty…it’s the queen. she’s… alive..!” paul said softly. matt’s eyes went wide, as he curiously followed patryck all the way back to the castle. everyone was chattering and dancing about inside the castle. the queen had opened the gates for a celebration of her return. matt scurried past patryck, and saw y/n standing next to a familiar face.
it was king edward. from a few kingdoms over, he had found y/n in the mud, her dress ruined. body littered with scars, the old friend decided to nurse y/n back to health. she was very grateful her friend had found her in such dire time. edd had guided y/n and himself to the kingdom of war. matthew was in front of his wife, once again for the first time in years.
“…hello matthew. it’s nice to see you.” she said, bowing her head gently. matt practically tackled his wife, holding her tight against his chest. she felt him cry a bit into her (h/l) hair. “i- why would you do that?!” he said, frowning. y/n giggled a bit, before matt continued on to his throne. he sat down, and y/n finally sat down next to him.
“MY SUBJECTS! a toast! to the return… OF THE QUEEN!” matt said, having a maiden bring his challahs. he rose it high, y/n seeing a bit of wine fall out of it. every single subject in the kingdom cheered and rose a glass to the queen. she blushed, another friend at her side already chugging down his glass. it was tom.
“glad to have you back…your highness!” “cut it out, tom!”
