"The" Talk
I glanced down at the note in my hand. It was from my neighbor Mr. Murdock. I blushed and looked up at his door but couldn't muster the courage to knock just yet. The guy always made me nervous. Not in a bad way but, enough to where I couldn't stop tripping over my words or being a klutz.
Looking back down at the note, it read. " Peter, please come see me tonight. ~ Matt"
My face felt hot, surely I was blushing. Mr. Murdock had never left him a note like this before. Why now? Why at night?! My stomach was in knots.
"Shake it off Webs... you got this." I murmured. I took a deep breath in and slowly let it out before raising a shakey fist up to knock on door.
The sound of the door unlocking helped me regain my composure. Matt opened his door and the serious expression on his face made my heart drop.
" H-hi Mr. Murdock, uh I mean Matt. Um you still wanted me to call you that right? Heh, anyway I... got your note." Geez I sound like such a loser.
" Hello Peter, please come in." The lawyer said as he opened the door.
Oh wow he's drinking... I don't think I have ever seen him with beer before. Of course he was drinking, it was already late into the evening. l nodded and thank him as I walked into his apartment.
I glanced around the apartment and noticed an open beer on the coffee table. " Do you have company? I - I can come back later. TOMORROW! I mean- -" I cleared my throat. My face hot again.
" I'm afraid what I need to discuss with you, also requires my other guest. He is currently hiding in the restroom." Matt answered whilst pinching the bridge of his nose.
" H-hiding, but why? Did I uh... interrupt something?" I asked confused. This felt extremely awkward. Mr. Murdock didn't seem his typical cheery self. Maybe... the alcohol had something to do with it. Or the guest in the bathroom? I thought as I stared towards the restroom door.
" Peter..."
Hearing the lawyer say my name like that. As if he had to speak with me frankly. It made me worry. I slowly turned back to him. "Why do I get the vibe I'm not going to like what you have to say?" I asked nervously.
" Peter... I'm sorry to spring this on you so suddenly." Matt said as he stepped closer to me. " But, we don't have much more time to tip-toe around this anymore. It just cannot wait."
I had butterflies in my stomach. Was Matt about to confess some hidden feelings to me?! I nervously took a step back, but the lawyer had stepped towards me until I was backed into the side of his couch. " Holy crap?! w-wait a minute w- we hardly kn- know each other!" I said in a panic and all at once I fell over the armrest of the couch onto my back.
" Peter wait, that's--" Matt began to say but my nerves got the best of me. And as normal I began to babble like an idiot.
" N-no! It's okay! I'm okay! I mean, I just don't think I'm ready f- for-- AND it isn't- because you aren't good looking-- crap, I mean, you're blind and I - I think that maybe you're mistaken. WAIT not that you being blind is bad! I--" A loud crashing sound grabbed my attention and I turned to see... "No way..."
Wade's loud gasp of air as he resumed laughing on the floor, had me stunned.
" I- I can't BREATHE!!" Wade yelled as his fit of laughter continued.
I turned back to Matt to see he was just as shocked as I was. And I have never seen his face that red before. " Oh my gosh..." I said feeling completely embarrassed. How could I have been so stupid? And WHY did this have to happen infront of Deadpool of all people?!
Matt cleared his thoat and seemed to be trying to recover from my mindless whoopsie. " That wasn't... what I wanted to tell you."
"Yeah! Way to fumble that one DD. Holy friggen shit." Wade said. "Wanna propose while you're at it?"
" DD..." I muttered under my breath. " You mean... your!"
Matt nodded. "Yes, that is what I wanted to talk to you about. I uh...apologize for the confusion."
I turned to look at Wade he was lying on the floor flat on his back with his head facing away from me. He was no longer laughing and he was suddenly so quiet. Was he trying to respect my privacy? I sighed and turned back to Matt. I was angry but I got up off the couch and crossed my arms facing him. "Okay... I'm listening...what is going on?"
Matt took in a deep breath as he fidgeted with the beer in his hands. " I hope this is obvious at this point but, I know you are Spider-man. That is hard to hide from me in and out of my costume."
Peter glanced over his shoulder at Wade. "And him?"
Matt shook his head. " He doesn't know who you are. However, I think he deserves to know."
"Shouldn't that be my choice?" I replied. I know he can't see but hopefully he could feel the daggers I was stating at him.
" Peter... be reasonable. I know this is an upset to you and I know why too. We want to help. No more secrets." Matt said calmly.
I guess my reaction was expected. I turned around and walked over to Wade, who was still facing away on the floor. I gently kicked his side. " Listen up because I'm only gonna say this once."
The merc stiffened and you could tell he was nervous. "Uhh... y-yeah?"
He still kept his focus straight away from me. I knelt down and slid a hand under his chin before squeezing his cheeks and with not too much force, turned his head to face me. "My name is Peter Parker and I want you to know something." I let go of his face as I knew I had his undivided attention now. " Right now... you are the ONLY one I trust." His eyes widened and his mouth parted slightly. What I just said really mean that much to him?
I sighed and pat his chest before standing. " Please don't make me regret it Wade. I'm counting on you." With that said I held my hand out to help him up off the floor.
The Merc took my hand hesitantly, almost as if he expected me to pull my hand away or as if he weren't sure any of this was actually happening. I gripped his hand firmly as I pulled the large man to his feet.
My glare turned back to my spy of a neighbor. "So, let me guess. One of the Avengers asked you to keep an eye on me? "
Matt sat his beer down on the coffee table. " Listen Peter, I know you have no reason to trust me. But, when they asked for my help, I was in the dark. For all I knew, you could have been a criminal."
I got close to Matt and jabbed a finger against his chest. "You are Daredevil. I know it didn't take you a month to figure out what was going on. So don't try and tell me , you took their order like a good soldier. I deserve my privacy dammit!"
Matt grabbed my wrist with a bit more force than necessary. I snatched my hand away. "I may be young... but I am much stronger than you."
My neighbor looked visably angry now. " You are right. I did find out who you were. And I continued to keep an ear out for you." Matt held up one finger. " However, I didn't spy on you for them." I watched as he flawlessly moved his finger to gently touch my chest. " I was worried. I couldn't help but, need to know more."
I was blushing again dammit. Why did this happen to me around this guy. I tried to keep my anger visable on my face. Even if Matt could not see it, Deadpool was right next to me. "So you let my dads manipulate you... just to find out what was wrong with me?" I asked closing my eyes and swatting his hand away.
" Look, I'm exhausted. I don't have the energy to be ticked at you so... I am willing to hear you out. So long as there are NO MORE secrets. Deal?" I said trying to sound as tough as possible.
The sudden utter silence started to worry me. "Well? Do we have a deal or not?!" I asked impatiently as I looked Matt and then Deadpool, who both looked as if they were in shock. "What?"
"Dads?!" Wade blurted out loudly with a dumbfounded look on his face.
Matt shook his head. " Wait, your parents... are in the Avengers? I'm confused...and you have two fathers?"
"Oh shit..." I muttered as I rested my face into the palm of my hand.
