Mine
Jemma’s POV:

I met Leo Fitz while I was in college, he used to wait tables at my favorite diner. We hit it off easily and I had learned that he was from a small town in Scotland, not far from my hometown in the UK.

Now I sit with him on the Futon in my dorm talking about everything under the sun. He starts to explain some strange invention and I get caught reliving a memory.

We were sitting on the sand near the lake, just talking, not long after we met. At the time I had a fear that I would fall in love and I was ready to run. He had put his arm around me for the first time, and I knew it was too late. I, Jemma Simmons, was in love.

*Time Skip* *After College*

Fitz bought an apartment as soon as we finished college while I settled on a month to month rent agreement. I don’t know when it began exactly but before I know it I am grabbing fresh clothes from a drawer in Fitz’ apartment after a nice shower. I change into a pair of my favorite sleep pants and a t-shirt before heading out to sit on the sofa.

Fitz immediately wraps his arms around me, “So Jemma, how was the weekend with your parents?” I know that he asked because it has been bugging me since I got back.

I take a deep breath, “Well my parents are getting a divorce.”

He looks at me shocked, “What?! Oh Jemma, I am sorry.”

I sigh and shake my head, “Well I am surprised that it took so long, they always fight. My dad even has a second home, he hasn’t lived with us since I was about 9.”

He pulls me into his chest as I wipe my eyes, “Oh Jemma, this is why you get so uncomfortable taking steps with our relationship.” He kisses my hair, “Jemma, I promise we won’t make their mistakes. Just please move in with me.”

*A Few Months Later*

It has been a struggle to fully move into his place, we had nothing figured but luckily we fixed it fast. Tonight I am sitting across from Fitz in a row boat, I watch as the cold november air plays with the hair that sticks out of his beanie. I look out at the city lights reflecting on the water, and when I look back what I see takes my breath away.

Fitz holds out a ring box with a diamond ring inside. “Jemma Simmons, the girl of my dreams. We share a home and a lab. We are partners at work and I hope we can be partners in life. So Jemma, Will You Marry Me?”

*2 years later*

Our wedding was beautiful, small and elegant. Both of our families came, along with our second family at SHIELD. Coulson even joined me in a dance as his partner May joined Fitz.

A slippery plate falls from my hand and snaps me from the memory. I quickly clean up and finish the dishes once I hear Fitz hang up the phone from his conference call. It is nearly two-thirty in the morning so I knew it had to be important.

Fitz comes in and takes a seat at the breakfast bar in our new kitchen. The house we finally bought will be perfect to raise a family in.

“Well dear I have news,” Fitz starts as I dry my hands with a dish towel. “Director Fury has requested me for a mission in Iraq.”

I drop the towel in surprise, “You said no, right?”

“I said yes, they need me to go in and help make a deal with a group of scientist.”

“Leopold Fitz! How could you? We said no more missions, we are trying to start a family.”

“It hasn’t happened yet, one mission won’t hurt. Plus I am sure if the tables were turned you would have said yes.”

I shake my head, “You are so selfish!” I shout at him as tears burn my eyes.

“Jemma, you are over reacting!”

I turn and run from the house into the front yard before he could say anything else. I collapse on the grass crying and not long after I feel a hand on my shoulder. “Fitz.” I choke out as I wait for him to yell and leave like my father always did.”

“Stand up Jemma,” he says quietly and I do so shakily. He turns me to face him and he uses his finger to lift my chin. “I will never leave you alone. Jemma, I remember how it felt by the water, on our first time out together. Everytime I look at you, it’s like the first time Jems. I fell in love with a careless man’s careful daughter and you are the best thing that’s ever been mine.”

*Time Skip*

I am woken up by a soft cry, it has been a little over a year since that fight. He went on the mission and returned home safe to some wonderful news.

I walk into the nursery and pick up our little boy, Gavin. I start to rock him in place and I hear Fitz come up behind me. He rests his chin on my shoulder and his hands on my hips. He kisses my neck softly before whispering, “Thank God, this is mine.”
