Chapter 5
“Pietro..”
Slowly opening his eyes Pietro found himself looking up at a pair of dark eyes surrounded by a fringe of silver hair. It took him a couple of seconds before his brain could understand what he was looking at.
“What is it Peter.” Pietro asked as he sat up and looked at the other boy, noticing something was off with him. “Is there something wrong?”
“I..” Pietro sniffed a little before a tear slowly ran down his cheek. “I.. I don’t know what i’m doing here, i want to go back..”
Pietro let out a big sigh as he understood what Peter was talking about. “You’re homesick?”
Peter just nodded, quickly wiping the tear away from his face. Pietro could understand the feeling the other must be feeling, or maybe he couldn't. There was no way of telling if Peter would ever make it back to his own dimension, maybe he would get stuck here forever.
“Come here..” Pietro mumbled as he scooched over to give Peter room to sit down beside him which the other did, after a moment of hesitation.
“What if i can never go back?” Peter mumbled once he was seated beside the other, a couple of centimeters apart. “I don't know how i got here so how can i go back?”
“I can't promise you that we will find a way for you to get back.” Pietro said after a while of thinking. “But i can promise you we will try. Tony and Bruce is two of the smartest people alive and if anyone would be able to figure it out it would be them.”
“I miss everyone..” Peter mumbled, sounding so sad it almost broke the other's heart. “They must be worried..”
Silence lay over the room as Pietro wasn't entirely sure how to deal with the situation. Feelings had never been his strong side and dealing with them wasn't something he did often but he felt like he had to do everything in his power to make Peter feel better.
“So.. How exactly did you get involved with the x-men?” Pietro asked, scotching a little closer to the other in the hopes of providing some comfort.
“Well one day out of the blue three men came to my house. At first I thought there were police since..” Peter visibly gulped slightly before continuing. “Since i wasn't really the most lawabinding citizen. But it turned out they were mutants too and needed by help with.. A thing..I helped them and.. Well.. I didn't actually become part of the x-men until later on but that was the reason i did..”
Pietro raised his brow at the mention of ‘help with a thing’ since it sounded more than vaguely suspicious. “What was the ‘thing' they needed help with?”
Peter looked like he would have prefered the topic to go unnoticed. “Do you have the Pentagon here? ()?” Peter asked, receiving a small nod from the man beside him. “Well.. I basically had to.. Uhm.. Break into it.”
“You what?” Pietro asked, surprised, not having expected something like that.
“Well no.. Technically I broke someone out of the pentagon..” Peter continued, clearly panicking just a bit. “They thought he was the one who killed the president but he wasn't.. At Least i don't think so.. He was there unfairly and his help was needed and i didn't actually know this before but turns out he's my father so i.. Yeah it's a really long story but i promise i didn't do anything wrong and he really was a good guy.. Well technically he helped apocalypse with the end of the world but that was only because his wife and daughter was-”
Pietro couldn't help but to laugh at the sheer number of words that were flowing from the other's mouth as he hastily tried to explain himself.
“I'm not judging you Peter.” Pietro said. “I was actually a bad guy before joining the Avengers, I even fought against them for a while. We all have our demons so you don't need to explain yourself to me.”
“Thanks..” Peter mumbled quietly before leaning to the side so his head was resting against Pietro's shoulder.
“For what?” The other speedster asked, not minding the gesture as much as he thought.
“For believing me.. For being here..” Peter answered. “I don't know what i would have done if you weren't here.”
“Don't mention it.” Pietro smiled as he wrapped an arm around the other, not really understanding why but finding it oddly relaxing.
“I should go back to my room..” Peter said after a while. “I'm really tired..”
Already half asleep Pietro merely hummed at the other's words, not letting the younger speedster go.
“Uhm.. I could just stay here of course..” Peter said, clearly asking for permission. “If you don't let me go i mean i can't really do anything-”
“Go to sleep.” Was the only answer he received from the other and he found himself unable to protest.
Peter didn't know why but being around Pietro made him feel more at ease than he should be. He felt less lonely and scared lying here and for the first time since he got here he could find it in himself to relax as he listened to Pietro’s slow breathing. He guessed he felt like that because he saw something familiar in the older man, something that reminded him of home.
