Visions - Wanda Maximoff
You knew it wouldn’t be easy to get the attention of S.H.I.E.L.D, much less the Avengers, but claims of seeing the future eventually got you into a seat in Fury’s office. He was clearly skeptical, but past experience has taught him to never assume something couldn’t exist. Unfortunately, life kept throwing him surprises and he didn’t expect it to stop anytime soon.
So when you told him you had seen the results of a brand new and very secret S.H.I.E.L.D project, all he could do was sigh.

A curious buzz filled the shared living space as most of the Avengers gathered at the behest of Fury. As usual he gave very little away, only stating that they would be meeting someone. Steve leaned casually against the side of the couch, expressing optimism that it would be something good, maybe even a new member. Tony joked from his seat at the opposite end of the couch that it could also be another new threat from another new dimension or galaxy, and Bucky mused that whatever they were, hopefully they were attractive.
Everyone turned their gaze toward the hall as Fury’s steps drew closer. You couldn’t help fidgeting as you stepped into the large room behind him, nervous and excited energy filling you at the prospect of meeting the Avengers. Your eyes scanned the room as you were met with mostly unreadable expressions, though Steve and Natasha gave you cordial, reassuring smiles.
“Morning team” Fury started. “This is (y/n) and the first thing I need everyone to know is that the knowledge of her powers cannot leave this circle. Only a few of my agents will be in the know, and anyone else outside The Avengers is to be told she is powerless if asked.”
This was met with quizzical gazes, a few turned heads, and an exasperated “So probably something world ending, fantastic” from Clint.
You took a step forward to stand side-by-side with Fury, clearing your throat nervously. His eyebrow raised, but he let you take over.
“I came here because I don’t trust anyone else with this.” With a deep, steadying breath you continued, a little more rapidly than intended. “I see visions of the future, mostly in dreams but sometimes it just comes out of nowhere and I pass out.” Your fidgeting stopped, gaze turning serious, “I don’t want to be turned into a weapon against humanity. I don’t know how useful I’ll be, but I know I won’t be in the wrong hands here.”
The admission was met with mixed reactions from suspicious to thoughtful. Steve, always the comforting type, approached with a smile and clapped you on the shoulder with a gentleness that surprised you considering his strength. “Thank you for trusting us with this (y/n). You’ll be in safe hands here.” Returning his smile, you nodded eagerly.
That’s when a flood of questions began pouring in, overlapping voices creating a jumbled mess and you struggled to grasp and answer as many questions as you could:
Have you seen us in-
Do you know when-
What’s the next threat-
“Yes, sorry when what-, well I’m not sure-”
Fury’s hand rose and the room quieted in a few moments, Steve returning to the couch. You released a deep breath, shoulders dropping back down once you realize how tense you’d gotten.
“You heard her explanation, as of right now she has no control over when the visions come and what they’re about. We will be working with her to see if she can be trained into it, but until then you should hold your questions or get your own damn crystal ball. She has already given me some valuable information and-”
Your attention shifted away from the discussion as Wanda entered the room, having just returned from some other business. Your eyes met and hers and widened in recognition, an unrestrained whisper leaving your lips “I know you.”
Fury’s voice continued as a low drone in your ears as he quickly caught Wanda up. She nodded in understanding, but her gaze never left yours, an unreadable expression on her face. Unbeknownst to you, you had opened your thoughts up to her almost immediately. Past dreams, visions you’d had more than any other, rolled like waves through your mind. The gleam in her eyes was so familiar to you, like you’d stared into them for days before.
A slight blush spread across both your cheeks as she saw glimpses of your shared future, a late night walk on the outskirts of the city, tender kisses full of love, lazy mornings spent wrapped in each others arms.
You quickly turned away as realization hit you, blushing furiously and shuffling nervously as your thoughts closed to her. She had felt everything in those thoughts, because they weren’t made up fantasies; they were your future, her future. Uncertainty flitted through both your thoughts, but fate had already brought you this far.
All you could do now was wait and see, because if you knew her, you knew what she would do. She would love you the way she had once upon a dream.
