At The Table
Luz and Hunter went back to the kitchen, sitting down at the table with the rest of their friends just as they finished explaining the basics of what had happened to Camila. Luz brought a Band-AID with her and put it on Amity’s hand, smiling at her.
“Okay, so,” Camila said, trying to understand everything the kids were saying. “Okay, so in the Demon Realm you fought the evil Emperor Belos who turned into a monster...”
“Well, he started out human,” Gus added, shrugging.
“Right.. but he was defeated by a newer, smaller bad guy?”
To Camila, it sounded a little like Luz’s fantasy books, with villains and battles. But she knew better than that. It was real life for them. And it didn’t seem to end like any stories. She doubted there was any ‘happily ever after’ for these kids right now.
“He’s called The Collector,” Willow told her. “He seems like a little kid, but he’s crazy-powerful. And I’m pretty sure he’s immortal or something.”
She sighed. Willow didn’t say it out loud, but her eyes told them she believed it was hopeless. They sounded unbeatable.
“We don’t know what he is or how Belos found them,” she finished.
Luz’s eyes widened, shrugging and holding her hands out animatedly. She couldn’t risk them finding out. She didn’t even want to try to imagine what they would think of her them.
“Who knows if we’ll ever figure that out?!” She sputtered, fighting to regain her cool. “But they’re creating a lot of chaos.”
“We have to do whatever it takes to get back,” Amity said, her eyes hard and set in determination that covered her exhaustion.
“And you will,” Camila reassured them. “But for now, you should all rest. “You’re all safe her.”
