Our Home's Back

Chapter 31 - Our Home's Back

Charlie turned to look at all of her family, seeing that, for once, she had made them proud. They're all gazing at her with all the fond admiration that Charlie's yearned for years. It was the best feeling she ever had.

So Charlie approached the door and firmly inserted the doorknob into the hole in the door. Once she did, a golden magical glow began to spread. First, all over the house, outside and the inside. Then it spread all over the town.

Everyone was greatly surprised when they saw this happen and watched as the glow on the front door to the house had faded. The door had a clear image of everyone in the Madrigal family. Molly, Pentious, Husk, Mimzy, Blitzo, Ozzie, Verosika, Angel, Arackniss, Collin, Vaggie, each one of them smiling. And of course, so was Charlie, who was up front and center and seems especially highlighted out of everyone else.

Then there was a creaking noise from above. Everyone looked up to see the window shutters open and close, like someone invisible was manipulating it. The Madrigal family were overjoyed when they realized just what this means.

Charlie felt her eyes tear up a little as she exclaimed, “Vivienne…! You’re back!”

Then the magical house started moving her roof tiles, her window shutters, and the flower pots, like it’s the start to an upbeat song.

“Whoa!” Charlie exclaimed, once Vivienne had manipulated the land and then the floor tiles to get her inside.

“Well, come on! Get in here!” The blue bow blonde cried out.

Everyone was excited, although Vivienne just went ahead and manipulated the land to get them inside already. That included a man on the guitar who went ahead and sung in Spanish.

Party time. Everyone’s coming to celebrate. Party time. Everyone’s coming to have fun. Keep dancing

Verosika had on a different dress than what she had always worn before. This one was of a mostly indigo color with bright multicolored splatters at the hem and she had a flower with thin, swirly petals over her ear.

The plant lover turned to see Arackniss with Moxxie, both sticking to the wall. The quiet, withdrawn man had listened to the freckled one talk animatedly about something, not that it could be heard from this distance. Regardless, Arackniss was completely invested and it didn’t go unnoticed and unappreciated by his new partner and said partner’s parents, the latter two watching on from just as much distance since they wanted to give the former two some space to themselves. Verosika smiled, seeing that she doesn’t feel any pressure when looking at Moxxie anymore, and she went to checking all the plants she insisted on decorating the house with.

Happy in my paradise

Ozzie gets to lifting up a potted cactus that his older sister’s planted, mindful of the spikes. He felt accomplished that he managed to place it on a small table close by.

And revealing miracles at every floor

Collin guided some donkeys to push Ozzie towards a nearby hammock set up around the center space of the house. It was a little tricky for him to get close to them, as well as to the other animals he initially had in his room, but then again, he loves animals. It was only a matter of time before he could do it.

Enchantment

Ozzie accepted a fruity drink offered to him, taking the time to just lounge on the hammock. Pentious and Molly were dancing together, the man of the two being a lot more carefree now that he’s free to feel whatever.

As for Angel, he was approached by Mimzy and Husk. The couple had offered the tall, freckled blonde to join them for dancing, which was kind of accepted in the end. Maybe it was a good start as any to start discovering oneself as any.

Columbia, I love you so much…

Blitzo, Charlie, and Rosie were looking on happily as the celebration and the song went on.

Although the red poncho guy couldn’t help but say, “you know, I still don’t understand one thing.”

The blue bow blonde inquired, “What?”

“Why is it that we got Vivienne back but not our powers?” Blitzo then flinched and grew a little wide-eyed, like he was worried he said the wrong thing, particularly when the rest of the family seemed to have caught the question. He hastily added, “I-I didn't mean anything mean by it! If I had to pick one, it would obviously be Vivienne but... I just thought they came hand-in-hand. That’s what I was wondering. Since, you know, that doesn't seem to be it.”

That got the family clamoring in agreement, wondering the same thing. They thought the same thing as the red poncho guy, too, when it came to their Gifts and Vivienne. That’s when the magical building had shook floor tiles and swung window shutters, as a kind of response.

Vaggie smiled, translating the first part of what Vivienne had said. “I have made mistakes. I shouldn’t have favored some of you more than others.”

Charlie finished, also with the same kind of smile on her face. “So it might be a good idea to make everyone equal.”

The rest of the Madrigal family looked at one another, eventually coming to an agreement. It will be strange, all these years of having their abilities only to live without them for the rest of their lives. Really, the only one who might not see it as any big loss is Collin. Then again, Charlie proved that one can be incredible and amazing without fancy abilities so, surely, they’ll be fine, too. Besides, for some of them, it’s honestly a relief that they don’t have to live with certain aliments anymore.

Then Vivienne had used the floor to get everyone together, including Ozzie off the hammock, and set up a camera in front of them. One of Blitzo’s rats was managing the buttons and such.

“Everyone! Together!” Vaggie exclaimed.

The whole family cried out in unison, “La Familia Madrigal!”

However, right when the rat had pushed the button, that was when Vivienne had used the floor to push everyone together. Absolutely no one was pushed out of the way, everyone can still be seen, it’s just that it created a ridiculous family portrait while Collin was holding onto his jaguar friend who was spooked away; thank goodness that the picture was taken just in time to really have every member of the Madrigal family there.

And Charlie absolutely loved it, since it had the whole family together. Including Charlie herself.
