What To Do Now

Chapter 21 - What To Do Now

Charlie couldn't believe that she was here, with someone she's only heard stories about and with most of those stories being basically reputation assassination, especially now that she actually met the guy. (Seriously, Mimzy was literally the only one to talk about Blitz in a positive light). She got curious over the crack of light she’s seeing and so approached it. Then, at looking through, she saw that she and Blitzo were right next to the dining room.

The blue bow blonde looked down at the table and saw that her uncle had drawn on it a plate with his name on it. A real knife and fork were to the sides.

Blitzo saw what she was seeing and spoke up. “Yeah, my Gift wasn’t helping the family, or anyone in town, but, uh… I care about them, you know? I just don’t know how to… I just don’t know how to…”

Then the future-seer gave up, seeming like he’s done with this. “Well, anyway, I think you should go because, um, I don’t have a damn good reason but, if I did, you’d be like ‘I should go because that’s a damn good reason’.”

Charlie approached Blitzo, who was fiddling around with loose fabrics of his chair. “Why was I in your vision?” No response. “Tio Blitzo?” Again, nothing. “I just… wanted to make the family proud of me. Just once. But if I should stop…” Her voice started to break, “if I’m hurting my family… just tell me.”

“I can’t tell you…” A frustrated sigh from the blue bow blonde. But then she heard, “…Because I don’t know.”

Then the future-seer laid the pieces out on a tray and put it together. He explained as he recalled in his head how it went, that night. It started with himself and the Madrigal matriarch at the window of the latter’s room.

“I had this vision the night you didn’t get your Gift. Abuela Vaggie worried about the magic so she begged me to look into the future. See what it meant.”

Blitzo used his power, in his tower, and saw glowing yellow images of whatever.

“And I saw the magic in danger. Our home breaking. And then, and then, and then… I saw you. But the vision was different. It would change. And there was no sure answer. No clear fate. Like your future was undecided.”

The future-seer held the square-shaped manifestation of his vision in his hands. He saw that, if he tilted it, he could see either the house with cracks or without them.

“But I knew how it was going to look. I knew what everyone would think because I’m Blitzo and everyone always assume the fucking worst, so…”

Blitzo had a determined look on his face and threw his vision down on a rock hard enough for it to shatter. It was left exactly where Charlie would find it years later.

“So…”

The future-seer left his tower, turning to look at his door. He was sad about what he was doing but pushed it aside, thinking of his niece, and got going again. The rest was history.

“Y-you…” Charlie started, “left to protect me?”

“I don’t know which way it’ll go but… my guess… the familia, the Encanto… and the fate of the miracle itself… well, it’s all gonna come down to you.”

The blue bow blonde had the words sink in, really feeling the weight of them. At least until the future-seer yanked the tray with the vision away.

“Or maybe I’m wrong,” Blitzo added. “You know, it’s a mystery. That’s why the vision is-“ Then he blew a raspberry and guided Charlie out of his living space. “Look, if I could help any more, I would but that’s all I know. Good luck. I wish I could’ve seen more.”

Then after the future-seer had closed the door behind her, the blue bow blonde mutters, “Yeah…” Then she had an idea. “Yeah…”

Charlie kicks the door down, scaring the crap out of Blitzo. Then she cries out, “you wish you could have seen more, so see more! Have another vision!”

While the blue bow blonde was all for this idea, the future-seer was apprehensive as all fuck and so was backing away from his rapidly approaching niece. He even hid behind his comfy chair.

“Oh, no. Fuck no! I don’t do visions anymore.”

“But you could.”

“But I won’t.” Then Blitzo held up a broom in front of him like that’s gonna help somehow.

“You can’t say the weight of the world is on your shoulders. The end.” Charlie yanked the broom away. “If our fate’s up to me, then me says have another vision. Maybe it’ll show me what to do.”

The future-seer tried protecting himself with the telenovela card but accidentally tripped and made several rats fly. Then he shot straight up.

“Look, even if I wanted to, which I friggin’ don’t, you wrecked my vision cave! And yeah, that’s a problem because I need a big, open space.”

“Don’t worry, we’ll find one!"

“Where?”

“Use my room.” Charlie and Blitzo turned to see that Collin had showed up, along with many of his animal friends. Before either adult could question anything, the animal lover says, “the rats told me everything.” Turn turning to the side, “don’t eat them.”

Apparently, the jaguar was going to eat some of the rats until Collin said otherwise. Before Blitzo could throw an outrage over some of his rodent companions going to be eaten, Charlie got his attention.

“Our family needs help and you need to get outta here.”

The future-seer turns to see his rat friends brushing themselves with toothbrushes. Then he turns back to his niece with a shrug and, “meh.”
