Calvin and Hobbes – Bob Proposes.
It’s a Saturday Morning at the beach house in the end of July.
Uncle Roo is gaming it up with Calvin on Mario Kart while Phoenix, Bob, and Shelley make breakfast.
Phoenix and Bob are dancing in the kitchen while simultaneously flipping pancakes and eggs.
Shelley is controlling the music with her Bluetooth speaker , baking the biscuits and also smiling on Her dad and Nat as they move together seamlessly and are giggling while almost dropping the pans as they switch spots on the stove.
But Shelley gets a big surprise after Bob Breaks away to dance with her instead.
She has enjoyed her time out here with her Dad, Nix, and even Rooster has been a pleasant surprise.
Shelley: Dad, I love it out here with you guys. Any chance we could also have this back home someday?
Bob: I wish for it in the worst way.
Phoenix: Then Lets do it when we have the chance.
I can stay with the Daggers as long or as short as I want but Bob, You have to decide if you want to leave the Navy in a year and half or stay in. but.. Staying will be risky with us not being Married… they wouldn’t think twice to split us up.
Bob: Then I’m Getting out. I spent the best of my times as an aviator with you Natatsha and since we are done with that anyhow, I cant lose you or my family on the ground because of it.
Phoenix and Shelley both hug him with bright smiles.
Phoenix: Don’t you guys worry about a thing,
Shelley: I’m not, your freaking loaded. By the way, can we go dress shopping this weekend? I have been on my best behavior after all.
Phoenix gives Shelley a cocky smirk.
Phoenix: A girl after my own heart. How about we hit up Nordstrom after Breakfast?
Shelley: IM IN!
Phoenix smiles on Shell but is also curious about Bob who is texting someone and he looks nervous.
Phoenix: Who’s got your full attention there babe? Cause it’s usually me.
Bob smirks at her while he puts the phone away.
Bob: Just your dad and I having a deep conversation is all.
Phoenix: You two are always going off on some Bible chapter together… what’s got you looking so out of place?
She moves to face him and touches his shoulders very softly but she give shim the eyes that cut through him like a hot knife in butter.
Bob: No! Nope not this time Ms. Trace! You don’t get to interrogate me like this. Stop looking at me like that.
You know I cant lie but why would you want me to spoil my surprise?
Her eyes shifted to a much softer look.
Pheonix: I like surprises Robert Ryan.
Don’t disappoint me Sir.
Bob: I hope I don’t ma’am.
Calvin: AND IHOPE BREAKFAST IS DONE VERY SOON!
The two see an annoyed Calvin and Rooster looking at them both as Cal has his hands on his hips with a scowl and Rooster shakes his heads with his arms crossed.
Shelley: It’s all done! Lets Eat !
Later that Morning before Shelley leaves with Nix for shopping, Bob Takes Cal and Shell for some games at Dave and Busters but he really is doing his to ask them a big life changing question.
After they finish at the arcade, Bob Drops his tailgate and has his kids take a seat.
Bob: Ok… Now let me tell you both that I consider being your dad to be my number 1 priority after my Faith.
You both are my world and I will always love you with all that I have.
But, I have been heartbroken and lonely since your mom died. God and you two were the only things keeping me going.
But Natasha has been another God send to our family and I just wanted to ask Natasha if she would Marry me and if you were both still OK with it?
Shelley: She’s great Dad! She really loves us all! But.. You have to be OK with me never calling her Mom…. She will always be Nat to me and that’s cool its own right.
Bob: I understand and respect your position my little lady. Thank you for your approval.
Calvin: WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR DAD!? JUST ASK HER! SHES GONNA SAY YES!!!
Bob: Oh, I figured you were a lock my boy! But, any chance I could borrow you and Hobbes for my proposal?
Calvin: WE GOTTA BE PART OF THIS!!
Bob: That’s my Boy! Now lets plan this out….
Bob arranged for Rooster To look after the kids in the late afternoon so He could Take Natasah out for dinner and dancing before he popped the question.
Bob also made a call to Marcus with a heartfelt conversation of gratitude as He made Bob and Offfer to buy the engagement ring and wedding ring If Bob could help him with some advanced engineering projects at his hangar to which he did a few months ago.
Bob Takes Phoenix out on the town to their favorite Italian restaurant they enjoy themselves as always but when they Got to the dance studio, their date got much better.
Bob Held her close through the movements as they continued to turn heads at the studio as they always had.
The two had become well known in Southern California for their dance competition wins which also saw them get a lot of attention when they had a date night.
But Tonight was different as they did the usual Tango with perfect syncing steps because Bob was determined to make Natasha his Wife.
They finally decided to break off into some slow dances but Bob Chooses “Here and Now” By Luther Vandross as they dance cheek to cheek.
But just like many times before, the gentle slow dances have them giggling at each other which turns to them tossing shade.
Bob: Ms. Trace, If we get caught by our parents tonight because you cant secure the happiness, I may say good bye to you tonight and forever more.
Phoenix does a fake gasp.
Phoenix: Hath thou gone Daft? May you ingest a satchel of Richards! (Old English for “eat a bag of dicks”)
They both laugh at each other but their eyes lock again and they continue to stupefy each other.
But Bob Just pulls her into him while whispering in her ear.
Bob: I am in love with you Natasha. Its not just your gorgeous looks either.
Your heart and soul give me a sense of belonging and comfort that I never known. And I do mean that.
I wish to know If I can love you and serve you better?
Phoenix: Pulls away quickly to looks him in the eyes.
Phoenix: Nobody has ever come close to what you do for me now. Even in our first few weeks you had me blown away.
If I was to propose to you at some point, because your dragging your feet, would you consider marrying me?
Bob chuckles.
Bob: Yes Ma’am.
Maybe I have been making sure I can buy you a nice ring?
Phoenix: THE POORS ARE AT IT AGAIN!!
They both laugh as she slams her head into his shouder.
They finish their dances and makde their way to The Hard Deck for some Drinks and games wit the Daggers.
Calvin and Shelley are also present for this as Bob sets up the engagement plans with Rooster and Hangman helping to get Calvin in place for the proposal when the timing is right.
While Everybody is in the middle of enjoying the night ,
Phoenix and Bob are in the middle of the Daggers at a big table playing Cards against Humanity but Calvin Interrupts.
DAD DAD DAD! I LOST HOBBES!!
I CANT FIND HIM!
Bob: Where do you remember having him last?
Calvin By the treehouse!
Bob: lets start there buddy… we will find him!
They get close to the fort and Bob sees little white pieces of cotton stuffing.
Bob: Oh no!, Looks like Hobbes sprung a leak!
Phoenix: Maybe we can find him if we find more of this? Keep your eyes out.
Cal does his best acting as he sniffles.
Calvin: OK.
Phoenix continues to find larger bits of stuffing as Nix and everybody else quietly make their way towards her but acting like they are searching too.
Nix gets to a Sand Catle pile and sees Hobbes lying face down.
Phoenix: I FOUND HIM CAL!
She rushes to grab the tiger but is stunned to see a gorgeous engagement ring around the toys neck with a Note that reads.
:You found Cal’s Tiger, But you also found my heart….. I found yours as well.
And that is how we start. We began this together as coworkers it would seem.
We got even closer in training and became a team.
But once our mission ended, we turned into friends but friends became lovers
And that will never end.
You have made me happy and your love for me is true but I assure you deeply that I also love you too.
I need you as my Pilot for the rest of my life. I promise if you let me, to be your faithful Husband and you be my loving wife.
I can’t do this without you and I need you around.
Please be mine forever… IN THE AIR AND ON THE GROUND?
Phoenix has tears in her eyes and is shaking with excitement and turns around to see his family in the back ground but Bob is on his knee just a few feet away with a smirk.
Bob: Natasha Jade, These many months have seen us grow closer together and you have loved me and my Children through it all.
The way you love them like they are your own tells me I want to Father more with you someday. We make a great couple and an even better family.
But I wish to make it official, Will you Marry me?
She Nods and smiles through her happy tears and motions for him to meet her half way.
Phoenix: YES! Of Course, it’s a Yes!
They Kiss as all the Daggers surround them in cheers but Nix makes sure to grab Cal as Bob hoods onto Shelley in a long embrace of happiness and excitement for their next chapter in life.
