Daisy couldn’t sleep on that night. She didn’t see any nightmares though. She fell asleep very fast in the evening, but when clock turned to 2 am, she woke up for some reason. Maybe it was the light that was shining right through the Venetian blind. It was just a regular night, regular summer night. Daisy had almost forgotten that it was summer. She had sit inside several days, watching TV. Daisy didn’t want to spend time outside. It was too warm and too sunny every day. So, she kept the curtains closed all the time.
SHIELD was in silent, Daisy didn’t have to do any works. And that was quite boring. She had always enjoyed doing work, but now, when the biggest threat was gone, she didn’t have anything to do. She didn’t like summer. She enjoyed autumn more, when it was dark and cold. Light was like pointless addition. She loved being in dark and she knew her way in there. What would she do with light?
Daisy get up from bed and watched the window. Sun didn’t fall at all on that night, it was touching the skyline, but it didn’t want to fall. It was 2 am, and Daisy felt like that she was sitting in a hot room at Midsummer’s eve. You can’t sleep in a heat like that. Room must be pitch – dark that she could fall asleep. Daisy tried to find some fabric or blanket, which she could put on the window. But she found nothing.
She heard laughing outside. Daisy glanced through the blind, when some teenagers walked down the road to the park. Daisy rub her neck and walked to the living room. What would she do here, when she didn’t get any sleep? Sun wasn’t shining so brightly at nights so maybe Daisy could go to a little summer night’s walk. She wasn’t a vampire after all. Daisy put skinny jeans on and covered her tank top with hoodie.
There was warm outside, not hot but warm. Soft and chill wind blew Daisy’s cheeks. She walked to the park, following the teenagers. Daisy didn’t visit the park so often, but this time she would enjoy the night. Daisy glanced at a young girl who had dyed the black stripes on her blonde hair. She seemed to be a little drunk and leaned over the tree. Daisy looked at the girl's wrapped panties. She decided to wrap her jeans too and get her ankles visible.
Daisy walked along the river and kept the keys in her hand. She had a spare key in case she could give it to someone important. But at this moment, her only important persons were SHIELD's co-workers and they could enter to Daisy's home without a spare key easily. Daisy wanted to give the key to someone who really deserved it. To an important person. Daisy was so thoughtless that she stumbled over the stone. And of course, the keys were flying into the river.
"Oh, fuck..." Daisy cursed. She took off her shoes, lifted her jeans more and stepped into the ice-water. Daisy began to look keys from the bottom of the river. She almost fell from the flow, but grabbed the stone and continued looking.
"Looking for a pebble?" Daisy heard voice behind her. Daisy got up and turned to look. Surprisingly, Robbie Reyes leaned behind him. Robbie had taken off his black leather jacket. It was so warm after all…
"Do I look like a stone collector?" Daisy asked. Robbie laughed and threw his leather coat to the grass near the tree. He walked to the river and put his hand to the river, grabbing the keys from the bottom. How in the world did he find them right away? Did Robbie see when Daisy dropped the keys? Robbie took Daisy's hand and helped Daisy out of the river, handing the keys to Daisy.
"I do not know you so well, Daisy. So, I would not be surprised if your great leisure passion were ... stones," Robbie said. He was joking and maybe flirting too, it sounded like it. Daisy decided to lose depression and irritableness from her tone and gave a little smile to Robbie.
"Well, what are you doing here? In the middle of the drunk teens?” she asked. Robbie laughed and took his coat from the tree. They walked along the park's street.
"You will never guess who is here in the middle of the drunk teens," Robbie said, "my brother"
"Surprising, he doesn’t seem like that kind of teen," Daisy said. Daisy was turning down the street that drove out of the park, back to Daisy's apartment, but Robbie continued walking up the park street. Daisy decided to follow. Why did she even consider leaving home? Robbie’s company was really the only thing that made Daisy feel better right now. Daisy felt herself happy. Although she and Robbie rarely saw nowadays, unfortunately.
"Things are now a bit better. Gabe finally begins to live and have fun, "Robbie said, "he has got new friends who care about him. I think he doesn’t need me anymore"
"Gabe still needs you. Even though he has some new guys, you're still his best friend, "Daisy said," guys and friends are two different things. "Robbie looked down at Daisy's eyes and asked suddenly;
"Am I a guy for you?" Daisy was silent for a moment. They came to the highest point of the park, where they saw the city and the rising sun.
"You are a friend to me," Daisy replied finally. They sat on the grass. Daisy could have sworn that she saw a little smile on Robbie's lips. Daisy looked down into the street and saw how Gabe and his friends were walking along the street, laughing. A couple of friends pushed Gabe's wheelchair forward, surprisingly firmly, even though Daisy was sure they were all a little bit drunk.
"You just came to stalk your brother, didn’t you," Daisy said eventually. Robbie laughed and nodded.
"I get caught," he said. Daisy felt a little tired again. The heat, that Robbie was glowing, got Daisy to feel warm too. The heat made her tired.
Daisy felt like she was sitting in the light, directly in the light. But this time the light wasn’t a bad thing. The light seemed to be just a problem before. Daisy knew how to navigate in the dark very well. What would she do with the light? But on the other hand, light was a useful tool. Light also brought heat. And right now, at this moment, Daisy loved that light. But that light was not the sun that rose from behind the houses. It was Robbie. And right then, when Robbie was sitting next to Daisy and everything was alright, Daisy began to really think about her relationship with Robbie.
"Who was that ... man? The one, you had the picture with you when we met? "Robbie asked. Daisy sensed a little envy in Robbie's voice, and she felt herself flattered.
"He was no one! Not anymore ... he ... I am over him, "Daisy said quickly, too quickly," So ... Robbie, I…"
"So, you wouldn’t mind?"
"Wouldn’t mind about what?" Daisy asked. Robbie laughed a little, and finally said,
"I'm interested about you, Daisy. So, you would not mind if I tried ... you know ... in some way to hit on you?"
"In some way?" Daisy asked. The smile on Robbie’s lips disappeared. He seemed a little embarrassed, but Daisy held his hand and said, "I want you to try to hit on me. Because ... really, dammit, I'm so tired of these constant relationships! I do not want SHIELD agents. I want a normal relationship”
"And I am the most normal dude that you can get?" Robbie laughed. Daisy smiled amused and pressed her head to his shoulder.
"Well no, but ... I feel like you treat me better than anyone else," Daisy said, "thanks to you, I finally learned to love the light" Robbie did not really know what Daisy meant by that but he only touched the girl's jaw and kissed lovingly her cold lips. Robbie was right, he was not one of the most normal boyfriends in the world, but Daisy felt so normal at that time. She felt like that she was sitting with his boyfriend in the park, enjoying the night. There would be no agents, aliens, weapons, or wars. She and Robbie would sit there and Robbie might have offered her a drink. And they would go to Daisy’s flat and maybe make out a little. It would lead to something or not. Robbie would make a breakfast in the morning. Daisy would help Robbie to shave his beard, and then they would fall for a moment in bed cuddling before Robbie would have leave for the workshop.
Daisy would cook some food and Robbie would have come to eat on the afternoon. In the evening, they would watch something dull TV series or movie and talk about their day. And even if the series or the movie were dull, she and Robbie would make it interesting. They would criticize together the actors and the plot and it would bring them somehow closer together. And then again late in the evening they would go to sleep.
And maybe one day Robbie would come home. It would be a normal day. Robbie would have been in the shop and she would walk to Daisy. And suddenly, Robbie would be in front of her, with one knee, with an open box. And the box would have a shining silver ring inside. Robbie would ask simply, without beautifying. Because he knew that Daisy hated clichés. And Daisy would hold tears and Robbie would wipe them off when they were running on her cheeks. But they both would smile. Coulson would be proud of a young, engaging couple, Jemma would be so excited. Gabe would be so happy for his brother. They would marry in the autumn. Because they both love autumn.
Robbie kissed Daisy again and Daisy answered the kiss, petting Robbie's hand. They pressed closer together, enjoying each other's heat. Daisy felt herself relieved and calm. She felt herself happy. Especially when Robbie wrapped both of his hands around Daisy. Daisy smiled and pressed her lips against Robbie's neck, giving small kisses to his neck. Then Daisy and Robbie heard a shout from the street:
"Get a room you two! "They looked down and saw how Gabe grinned with his friends to them from the street.
"Are you sure you’re going to be fine without me, little bro?" Robbie asked with a smile.
"I can handle this. You do not have to watch me all the time. Go to have fun with your lady, "Gabe shouted and left to the fountain with his friends. Robbie glanced at Daisy, who just decided to smile. They got up. Robbie cleaned up Daisy and they walked to Daisy's flat. Robbie put his hand on Daisy's back. And there they walked; A woman who could shake the whole city out of its seat. And a man whose soul was half in hell. They were like any other loving couple in a beautiful summer night.
