Thanos' consort
What if Loki was a jotun and Thanos' consort/wife? Thanos is off fighting and the home base is attacked while he's away. In a desperate bid for safety since he can't get to where his husband is, Loki travels to earth for sanctuary until he can get back to Thanos. Meanwhile the Avengers are fighting the chitauri when Loki arrives. When the chitauri sees who it is they try to retreat knowing that if Loki gets hurt, they ALL die.
He's relieved for the recognition and sure they will inform Thanos of his whereabouts. The Avengers are weary about the new alien and Thor recognizes him as Jotun. Intergalactic racism ensues while Loki tries to down play his existence. 'No I'm not an invader, no I'm not someone important, just a lost little Jotun who can do minimal harm.'
Any way the Avengers take him in after a bit and start to like him, much to Thor's displeasure. While this is going on Thanos is charging through the universe trying to find his lost Loki with a hair trigger temper and a trail of bodies behind him.
The Avengers eventually get wind if Thanos' journey to earth and Loki still has to play them that he's not important until they realize just how important he is. Thor would accuse him of intentionally bringing the titan to earth as retribution for the jotun's lost casket.
Thanos does arrive but baffles everyone when he goes mother hen and dotting husband on Loki.
