Luz and Amity are stood in front of the glowing portal door, cotton candy pink skies looking down on them, truly a beautiful sight for such a melancholic moment. Luz must go back to the human realm for good, after all a promise is a promise. Tears gloss both their eyes as they dread what's to come; they hold each others hands tightly as they stare into the portal door.
"I guess this is it, huh" Luz whispers, her voice breaking as she struggles to get her words out, tears threatening to spill.
"Yeah, it is" Amity replies, her voice threatening to break at any moment. They turn to face each other and Amity hugs Luz tightly, she wants to hold her girlfriend for all eternity, but she knows that she can't. Luz hides her face in Amity's shoulder, tears streaming down her face like a waterfall. A few tears escape Amity's eyes, but she has to stay strong for her girlfriend.
"I'm sorry but there's no other way, I really want to stay but I promised my mom I would go home and stay there, I love you so much" Luz says her voice breaking with each word she says.
"If you love me so much then stay. Please, I don't want to lose you" Amity says, now a few more tears spilling out of her eyes.
"I can't , you know I can't. I want to stay here more than anything, but I can't I'm sorry"; Luz says sobbing into her partners shoulder.
Amity caresses Luz's cheek, wiping away all the tears that are falling down her face. They both lock eyes and Amity leans towards Luz and kisses her, Luz kisses back. Normally their kisses are full of desire but this one if full of desperation, desperation what Luz will somehow stay in the demon realm with all her newfound friends and family.
Amity rests her hands on Luz's waits and Luz intertwines her fingers in Amity's hair. They both really do love each other, such a shame they have to part ways and will now only ever have memories of each other. They break away from the kiss and they just look at each other, holding hands; admiring one another, taking in their last moments together. They notice that the portal is slowly flickering, hinting that their time is coming to an end. They look at each other, their eyes are full of worry, sadness and heartbreak. Luz slowly lets go of Amity’s hand walks towards the portal, turning around to look at her girlfriend one last time, taking in her beauty.
"I love you so much, Amity Blight. I love you beyond words" Luz tells Amity, choking on her words.
"I love you too, Luz Noceda, I love you more than you will ever know. I cherished every moment I had with you" Amity whispers, just loud enough for Luz to hear. Luz turns around and walks through the portal, it breaks her heart to have done that, but it needed to be done. Luz runs into the house, ignores her mom calling her name, she enters her room; tears streaming down her face. She jumps on her bed, curls up into a ball and just cries. She's never cried this hard before, she didn't want to leave the boiling isles, leave her girlfriend, leave her best friends, her family; leave everyone that ever cared about her. But she didn't have a choice. Once Luz walked through the portal Amity broke down in tears, she collapsed onto the floor in a heap of tears and heartbreak. Part of her hates Luz for having to leave but she also understands why she had to, she will never forget her first love, Luz Noceda.
Why couldn't you just stay?
