Scott Lang x mom!reader

"Hey, honey, how was your day?" you asked your son as he climbed into the backseat of your SUV with his book bag still on.

He mumbled something in response that you couldn't hear.

"What was that?"

"It was okay," he said a little bit louder.

On your drive home, you continued in your attempts to make conversation with him. Normally, he barely stopped talking long enough to breathe, so you were concerned by his newfound silence. By the time you pulled into your driveway, you had decided it was a lost cause. He would open up to you when he felt like it.

This new routine continued for several days until one Friday afternoon when he finally muttered, "There's this kid in my class that won't leave me alone."

"What's he been doing?"

"Picking on me."

"Did you stand up to him and tell him to stop?"

"Yeah...laughed at me," he replied, barely audible.

You sighed aloud when you looked in your rearview mirror and saw his sad expression. It broke your heart to see your only child upset. You'd always encouraged him to stand up for himself and try to solve his own problems when at all possible. It wasn't too early for him to learn how to take care of himself. After all, you might not always be there. You'd learned that lesson the hard way when his father passed away.

But, if he had already done that to no avail, then you weren't going to let him fight his battle all alone.

"What's his name?" you asked.

"...... Lang," you heard him whisper, missing the first part. Oh well, it didn't matter. You'd have a talk with young Mr. Lang's parents on Monday morning.

---------------

Monday mornings were always rough at your household...gathering up homework, trying to find lost sneakers, dragging a sleepy little boy out of bed while drinking your coffee. You were already running late for work when you stopped at the school drop-off, so the Lang situation would have to wait until this afternoon.

"Bye, honey, try to have a good day. I love you."

"Mom," he sighed, looking both ways to see if anybody was in earshot. "I love you, too."

-------------

You arrived at the school earlier than normal in the afternoon in the hopes of finding out who this Lang's kid's parents were. Being a widowed mother, you didn't have as much time to dedicate to school activities as some of the others, so unless they belonged to your son's friends, you didn't know anything about them.

But, you knew who would.

"Hey, Carol," you said as you slide up to your best friend's car window. "How's it going?"

"Same as always, I guess. How are you and Spencer?"

"That's what I wanted to talk to you about. Do you know a Mr. and Mrs. Lang?"

"She's not Mrs. Lang anymore. She remarried. I know her and the stepdad pretty well. Mr. Lang shows up when he can...if I wasn't married I'd like to know him a lot better, if you know what I mean. That is one good looking man."

You let out a humored snort and shook your head at her. "As helpful as all that knowledge is, do you know if they're here today?"

"That's his car over there," she said with a nod.

"Thanks," you replied, patting her on the arm.

You made your over to the vehicle she had indicated and knocked on the passenger's side window. The man in the driver's seat jumped slightly, apparently startled.

He rolled down the window and asked, "May I help you?"

"That depends, are you Mr. Lang?"

"Yeah, Scott Lang, that's me," he replied with a chipper tone to his voice.

"I wanted to talk to you about your son."

"My son?"

"Yeah, your son."

"Um, give me a minute."

He got out of the car and walked over to join you on the sidewalk. Now that he was out in the sunlight, you saw that Carol was right. With dark hair, dark eyes, and an unbelievably youthful look for a middle-aged man, he was incredibly handsome.

"Um, yeah," you began, regaining your composure, "it seems your son has been picking on mine. Now, don't think I'm an overbearing mother who gets involved in her boy's life all the time, but he says he stood up to your son, told him to stop, and all he did was laugh at him. I thought you and I could handle this as adults, without getting the teacher involved."

You realized that he looked as if he was trying not to laugh at you.

"I don't see what's so funny."

"No, I'm sure you don't yet," he began. "You must be Spencer's mom?"

"Yes, I am," you said a little surprised.

"I think there's been a little misunderstanding. You'll see in a minute. Over here, peanut!" he yelled at someone over your shoulder.

"Daddy!" you heard a little girl yell right before she ran over to the man you were speaking to.

He scooped her up in his arms, gave her a quick hug, then set her down on the ground in front of you.

She was a beautiful little girl who couldn't have looked any more angelic unless a halo had been floating over her head.

"Cassie, this is your new friend Spencer's mom. Mrs. Y/l/n, this is Cassie."

"Hey, Mrs. Y/l/n, it's very nice to meet you," she said.

"Mom!" you heard Spencer cry out behind you. "What are you doing?!" He asked once he was standing beside you. He wore a totally exasperated look on his face.

"Hey, Spencer," Cassie said shyly before reaching her hand over to ruffle his hair. She giggled when he swatted it away.

"See, mom," he mumbled. "She won't leave me alone."

You looked at Mr. Lang apologetically. "I'm sorry. It seems my son left out a few important details."

You leaned over to Spencer and said, "Don't you know when a little girl picks on you, it means she likes you."

He glanced from you, to Cassie, and back to you with an expression that said he didn't wholly believe you.

"Really?"

"Yeah, and believe me, it doesn't change when you get older either, kid," Lang said with a smile.

"Do you want to come play at my house?" Cassie asked. "My dad has a big indoor maze and you can see my giant pet ant?"

"Giant pet ant?! How can you have a giant ant?" Spencer said.

"You'll have to come see."

"Can I, mom?"

"Oh, I don't know. Mr. Lang might have other things to do today."

"He doesn't!" Cassie volunteered.

"It's true. He doesn't," Lang said. "I know we just met, so if you and your husband feel more comfortable joining us-"

"Mom's not married!"

"Neither is my dad!"

You blushed at the children's outbursts and Lang rubbed the back of his neck with a laugh.

"Can we, mom? Please, please, please?"

Your son looked happier than he had in days, so how could you say no?

"Oh, alright."

"Yay!" The kids squealed in unison.

"Yay!" Lang copied them, making you laugh.

"Well, lead the way, Mr. Lang."

"Ok, and you might as well call me Scott."

"Y/f/n."

-----------

"Oh my God," you said as your fingers ran over the soft leather of the ant-man suit.

Scott figured once you'd seen Cassie's giant pet ant, there was no reason not to tell you the whole truth. Besides, what was the harm of showing off a little to an attractive, single woman.

"Who would have guessed I would have met an actual Avenger at the school pick-up lane?" You said as you picked up his helmet to study it.

"Well, once you strip away the 'superhero saving the world stuff', we're really just regular people.... except for Thor, I guess.... and maybe Tony Stark, and..."

"I get it," you said, patting him gently on the arm.

You'd had an absolutely wonderful afternoon with Scott. While the kids happily played, he'd told you all about being an Avenger, his daughter, his divorce, and even his time in jail. He was an extremely easy guy to spend time with, and an even easier guy to like. Things felt very natural with him. So when Cassie came running up asking if you could join them for dinner, you happily agreed.

You were helping set the table when you heard the front door open and a man's voice yell, "Hey, Scottie!"

You weren't positive, but you were pretty sure you heard Scott mutter, "Oh, no."

Moments later, a man entered the kitchen and said, "Oh, man, I didn't know you had company. I'm Luis, Scottie's best friend and business partner."

"It's nice to meet you. I'm y/f/n y/l/n."

"Y/f/n y/l/n? You mean the super fine hottie from the school?"

"What?" You asked with a surprised laugh.

Out of the corner of your eye, you thought you saw Scott run his finger across his throat in a slashing motion. But when you looked, he was just brushing off his shirt.

"I mean, I don't know anything about that," Luis began. "I mean, you are a super fine hottie, but I don't know anything about that."

"Luis!" Scott said, finally cutting the rambling man off.

Quickly recovering, Luis went over to the stove and asked, "Oh, what are you guys fixing to eat?"

----------

After dinner, you announced that it was time to go home, which was met with two small "oh, no's".

"Oh, yes, it's getting late. You both have school tomorrow, remember?"

Scott walked you to the door while the kids ran out to the car together.

"So, um, I have to ask...did you use your daughter just to get a date with me?" You asked playfully.

"Of course not. I can't help that Cassie took a liking to Spencer, which led to us eventually meeting, anymore than I can help-"

"That you happened to be a super fine hottie!" Luis supplied from the kitchen, causing Scott to sigh in annoyance.

"Uh huh, sure."

"But, I was wondering... is there any chance you're free on Saturday?"

"Spencer has a soccer game on Saturday."

"Oh."

"Unless, you and Cassie would like to join us? We could get dinner afterwards."

Scott smiled at you before yelling out the door, "Cassie, would you like to go Spencer's soccer game on Saturday?"

"Yeah!" The two little voices chimed in unison.

"Seems like they've hit it off," you said.

"Yeah."

"You know, what you told Spencer was right, it doesnt change when we get older."

Then you reached up and ruffled his hair until it was a complete mess and said in your best Luis-voice, "See ya on Saturday, Scottie."
