Stephen Strange x Reader

Stephen sat in the chair in his office staring at the old picture of his White Coat Ceremony. As he looked at the faces of his former classmates, he thought about where most of them were now. One was the Chief of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, another taught at his alma mater, the rest of them were spread throughout various hospitals or were in private practice. When his eyes landed on the most familiar of them all, he chuckled to himself at how young he looked. It felt like so long ago and yet it somehow also seemed like yesterday. He was so bright-eyed and ambitious back then, with a lifetime full of hopes and dreams ahead of him. He remembered how he thought that all the money, power, and prestige he could earn as a surgeon would be his greatest achievement.

Setting the picture down, he lifted the newly opened letter again and read over it once more. Even though he was no longer a practicing doctor, his graduating class had still sent him an invitation to the reunion. He glanced over at his scarred, shaking hands on either side of the paper and imagined how it would go. They would all express a great deal of pity for him because of the accident that ruined such a brilliant medical career, just as he himself had at the time. He shook his head with a laugh as he thought about the odd looks and shushed exchanges at his new...vocation, for lack of a better word.

He was drawn from his musings by the sound of the familiar feminine voice of his fellow Avenger calling out to him from downstairs. With the letter still in hand, he got up and walked out onto the landing to find you maneuvering your way through the front door of the Sanctum with the baby carrier at your side.

“We’re home,” You yelled up at him as you bent down to unfasten the buckles holding your daughter into her seat. “You should have gone with us. We had a great time. I swear Thor and the rest of them are going to spoil her until she’s absolutely rotten though.”

Stephen watched with a contented smile while you continued rambling on about the day’s activities. This is what his classmates would never be able to understand. They’d think of his accident as the end of everything wonderful in his life. They’d never see it for what it really was: the beginning of it all. The miracle that led him to this moment...that led him to you.

He glided down the stairs and landed in front of you.

“Do you have to do that?” You asked with a sigh. “She’s going to grow up watching you and think that she can do it too, then she’s—“

He cut off your complaint by pulling you into a firm kiss. When you parted, you gave him a surprised look and said, “Hey to you, too.”

He smiled at you and reached his hands out, taking his baby girl out of your arms.

“I’m glad you two had fun,” he said. “Sorry I couldn’t join you.”

“What did you do while we were gone?”

“Oh, read my mail,” he replied, passing you the letter.

You quickly scanned it before glancing up at him and asking tentatively, “Are we going to go?”

Cradling your daughter’s head against his shoulder, he said with a twinkle in his eyes, “Wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
