Chapter 2
The feeling was so overwhelming the goddess could not take it —and just before she decided to stand up and walk out, something gently tugged on her shirt.
Ei looked back and saw Miko clutching on her shirt, hands reaching out to her almost trembling.
"Miko, are you okay? You want a hug?"
Miko tried to speak but nothing came out of her mouth or it was so weak it might’ve not existed at all. Miko whose voice was so clear and so soft was turning weak and unintelligible. When she finally replied the sound frightened her; for her words were unspoken and her thoughts unorganized, and such an answer was rather unexpected, much like her lover felt.
“Ei… Don’t leave me. Not again. “ Ei’s eyes widened. It took her a moment to really understand the burden of the words. She could feel miko’s anguish, anger, and despair in her voice.
“I won’t, never again.“ She whispered to her and Ei’s gaze on her fox softened. She was holding her tenderly while her hand was silently playing with her lover’s pink hair. Miko breathless, her eye blinked, a tear fell down unconsciously. She touched her own hair to make sure that she was not dreaming — and then two hands wove their fingers together, if only briefly.
“Ei...?" She pulled Miko into her embrace along with her blanket. Miko smiled softly on her chest and Ei tightened her embrace.
“Miko. I missed you. She confided, finally, “Just as your dresses are meant to be worn and just as your flowers are meant to be watered on sunny windowsills every Monday, she said jokingly, I was meant to love you.”
And Miko thought to herself “Is it not enchanting to love what is meant to be loved?“ Ei was as primordial to her than the breeze whispering to the birds; the sea flowing; the sound of distant thunderstorms warning the people from mother’s wrath.
