Only The beginning

Chapter 13: Only the beginning
Logan stood pacing outside of the morgue. He couldn’t do it, he couldn’t bring himself to go in just to see her because seeing her meant that she was really gone and he didn’t want to face that fact, couldn’t face it really. She was a stranger, but he had meant everything to that girl, and he didn’t even know her, hadn’t known her. But he wanted to, he wanted to see the girl the way she saw him. His mind drifted to the professor who had seemed to know more about Daisy than he should. The professor had seen into her head, had known all her dirty secrets. Maybe he could help Logan.
Turning away from the door he glanced back one last time and headed back up the stairs, “Not gonna go see her?” a voice asked breaking him from his thoughts. It was Tony Stark, of course, it was Tony Fuckin Stark.
“Stark, don’t you have something better do than skulk around in dark corners looking mysterious.”
“Haven’t you heard? that’s my specialty” Tony said with a grin. Rolling his eyes Logan shoved past Tony only to be grabbed by the man his grip tight on Logan’s arm.
“Hey,” he said his voice suddenly growing cold, “I know you may not have loved her the way she loved you, but she was my friend and what your doing now is disrespectful to her. She cared about you and you're not even going to face her.” Tony tightened his grip on Logan’s arm surprising Logan.
“You barely knew her Stark. She wasn’t your friend. You know who her friends were, the two currently in surgery and the other two who haven’t stopped crying since her death. The rest of us were just useful allies that needed to be exploited to get the job done”
“Maybe, but I cared about her, Coulson cared about her. They may have started out as strangers to us but…” Tony paused and released Logan’s arm looking away and the man saw for the first-time guilt flash across Tony’s face.
“Do you blame yourself for what happened?” Logan questioned.
“I wanted to throw the stupid party and it was my building that got blown up. Jarvis should have detected it. I should have known. I am the smartest god damn man in the world, and I let a kid die. She was only 22, just 22 years old” he whispered looking away from Logan.
“She wasn’t a kid Stark. She hadn’t been a kid for a long time” gently prying Tony’s fingers off his arm he headed back up the steps and didn’t look back at the billionaire. He had somewhere else to be.

Logan stood outside of the institute for several minutes contemplating if he should go in or not. Daisy had been dead a day and they hadn’t even buried her. He knew of course that the professor couldn’t help her, but he didn’t want her memories to die. If there was some way that a piece of her could stay alive inside of him then maybe he wouldn’t blame himself so much. Maybe she wouldn’t have died alone.
“Logan are you going to stand outside all day or are you actually going to come in” An annoyingly British voice echoed in his head. The professor couldn’t even stay out of his head for one second, could he?
“I’m sorry did you not want my help”
“Shut up professor” he grumbled under his breath and even though he didn’t get a response he was pretty sure the professor was thinking somewhere along the lines of I thought so. The smug bastard that he was.
Walking into the familiar building Logan could hear voices coming from the living room, “You cheated! I know you cheated Charles just admit it” a voice said angrily.
“Oh, whatever do you mean darling? I would never cheat” a voice laced with false surprise said next.
“Don’t play coy with me and I know you're mocking me.”
Before the other voice could answer a third one spoke up, “Hey! Would you two quit flirting some of us are trying to watch tv here and it's disgusting get a room” Raven, that was ravens voice definitely and of course the other two were….
Charles and Erik sat across from each other a chessboard in front of them, both looking up upon hearing Logan’s heavy footsteps, “Oh look Charles it's your lap dog. I was wondering where he had wandered off to but of course faithful as always he has returned.”
“Shut it, metal man!” Logan snapped his hands balling into fists in rage, “Shes gone Charles, Daisy is gone” Logan’s voice dropped when he mentioned her name slowly going quiet.
“Oh is it that time already Charles? Why didn’t you tell me they were here?” Erik said slightly annoyed.
“Because I know how you are about keeping your mouth shut and I didn’t want you to mess things up” Charles sighed pinching his nose in agitation.
“I'll have you know I can keep a secret,” He said.
“Oh really? I thought your usually MO was just blurting out whatever you wanted. Name one person you can beat at keeping a secret?” Charles said raising an eyebrow.
“Did you ever hear me? Daisy is gone, shes dead Charles and your sitting here arguing about who’s a better secret keeper” Logan snarled in anger.
“Yes, I’m well aware Logan my condolences and suc—”
“Peter!” Erik blurted cutting him off.
“Peter doesn’t count he's your son”
“You never said anything about excluding blood relations”
“Well it was implied”
“I think you just made that up 'cause you’re a sore loser”
“Am I now? Or maybe I just proved my point and since peter shares half your DNA, of course, he's a terrible liar he got it from you along with the whole running away thing”
“That was in the past I can't believe you are still holding a grudge about that”
“Oh darling I am going to hold that over your head until the day we die”
“Well, you’ll probably die first since your bald and in a wheelchair.”
“That does it!”
“Charles! Charles, what are you doing?”
“I’m going to make you spend the next 24 hours thinking you’re a baby. I hope you enjoy shitting your own pants. Now, who’s the old on—wait, what does me being bald have to do with dying first!?”
Raven having lost focus on the tv sidled up to Logan with a sigh, “Believe it or not they were worse before they got married I think it was all of that unresolved sexual tension and I know it seems like Charles doesn’t care about what happened to Daisy, but soon you understand the truth and that everything happens for a reason…. God, I’m starting to sound like Charles. Now there’s a thought” she grimaced.
“Are you two done? Logan if you would be so kind” Charles said waving his hand towards the door.
“Oh, are you two finished bickering like an old married couple” Logan sneered wanting to throw up at the image.
“We are an old married couple Erik scoffed getting up and walking past the burly man.

Following Charles into his study where they could talk privately the bald man sighed and turned to face him, “I know what you came here for Logan you want to see through Daisy’s eyes. Am I correct? You want her memories of you. Very well close your eyes and ill show you the way Daisy saw you. Now remember this will be more like a dream than anything else” Feeling fingertips on his temples at first there was a slight tingle and then all at once Logan felt a rush of images and feeling all rolled into one and before he could stop himself he felt tears slip down his cheek and for the first time in a long time Logan had cried.

Leaving the institute Logan had just opened the door when he felt a presence behind him, “Lehnsher!” he snarled, “What do you want?”
“I just wanted you to deliver a message for me. Since you're on your way over there now anyway” Erik said with a shrug, but a hint of a grin peeked behind his lips.
“What is it?” Logan snarled.
“Tell Daisy the next time you see her that she better not be late for my—”
“Erik!” A voice yelled cutting his words off, “We’ve talked about this” Charles wheeled into the room glaring angrily at his husband.
“I doubt what I say is going to make a difference anyway what's the harm—”
“Erik!” Charles snapped.
“Fine, fine” waving his hand away he turned back towards Logan, “Tell her I hope she feels better soon.”
“She’s dead,” Logan said trying not to drive his claws through Erik's chest.
“Is she?”
“Erik!” Charles warned in a threatening tone.
Having enough of the bickering couple Logan turned and shoved his way outside and down the steps heading back to see Daisy for one last time.

He waited a moment before pushing the doors open towards the morgue. It was funny now that he had all the memories that future logan had shared with Daisy albeit in a dream-like way. This made coming in here even harder she lay at the end of one of the long slabs a white sheet placed over her body. Lifting it back until only her face was shown, he sighed. She looked so young here, like a child and barely even an adult.
“I’m sorry kid, but I guess you knew all along that this was gonna be the endgame. You always were a self-sacrificing martyr. Must have got that from me” he broke off and closed his eyes.
“you should have looked after yourself more. Take it from me this world didn’t deserve to be saved. I was supposed to protect you and now your killers still out there and you’re the only one who knows who he is” Daisy didn’t respond, not like she would have been able to but at that moment Logan wanted her to come back to life so that he could yell at her.
“I’m sorry kid,” He said rising to his feet and looking back one last time he left the morgue; he wasn’t coming back there.

Jemma didn’t have any tears left. There were no tears left to shed only the numbness. So, Daisy was gone but wasn’t that inevitable since the beginning. She was never going to live even she hadn’t believed that. Jemma couldn’t cry for a girl who had caused all of them so much pain she betrayed them and let Robbie out even if May said it apparently wasn’t a betrayal, Elena lost her arms because of Daisy’s reckless drive to do everything solo.
And the tears wouldn’t come no matter how much she wanted them to. “We’re all dead in the end” she murmured touching the bandages at her side.
“Don’t say that,” A voice said to her right, Bobbi. “Elena’s out of surgery and Stark is already fitting her with new arms and now we can finally move on.
“Not quite we still don’t know who tried to blow up the building”
“Elena knows. She saw the whole thing and she’s already told the others; it was Garrett. They're looking for him now. He’s already lost. It's over.” Her friend said.
“No, it's far from over. This is only the beginning”

Daisy’s room
In the wreckage of what had once been Daisy’s room, the tesseract burned brightly pulsating and lighting up the room. A soft hum came from the cube and the pulse began getting brighter.
Illuminating in a soft glow. It was almost mesmerizing to any who might have witnessed it, but there was no one to be found. The glow got stronger and the pulsing got stronger.
Until it exploded repelling a blast of energy in all directions of the compound.

Robbie slipped quietly to the morgue and pulled the sheet back staring at Daisy’s cold lifeless face. “Guess I was right about that death wish. Wasn’t I? you were a fool not to have realized that this was going to be your outcome. Then again, maybe you always knew you were gonna die. Unfortunately for you that day isn’t gonna be today.”
Leaning forward he placed his hand on her cheek, “I still need you for something and I can't very well have you dying yet. Luckily for me, I still own your soul.” Pulling the sheets away more he placed his hand on her chest.
“I'll give this whole saving the world thing a shot, but I still think you're wrong about me. I’m passed the point of saving. Just as you're passed the point of saving and I don’t mean because your dead. Well you won't be dead in a minute Chica”
Closing his eyes he released his power and his flames turned a bright orange as he transferred his life energy towards herself. Concentrating he pushed more power into her and watched as her skin began to take on a more normal hue and her lips which had been blue began to turn into a soft pink her body slowly rejuvenating.
And it was at this last second right when he shoved her soul back in that he felt a wave of pure blue energy slam into him from out of nowhere and his bright orange flames that covered Daisy’s body turned an Icey blue.
Knocked to the floor from the impact he gasped at the power he had felt flowing through him for just a second, “What the hell was that?”
Getting to his feet he stared at Daisy her body unresponsive, Damn it!” He yelled slamming his hand onto the table, “It didn’t work.” A large gasp came from the table and he turned just as his eyes met a pair of Icey blue ones. Wait, Daisy didn’t have blue eyes before he could question it her eyes turned back into a familiar shade of brown.
“Robbie,” She said.
“Welcome back Chica”

Daisy’s Room
Falling to the ground a figure lay on the floor weak and stunned the only light in the room came from the tesseract lying on the bed. Now completely dormant than it had been a few minutes ago. Getting to his feet the figure held out his hand and stared in amazement that he was finally whole again.
Turning, his eyes found the tesseract and he grinned softly. Picking it up as if the energy didn’t affect him at all. “Finally, I am finally free,” He said the words, “After all this time” Holding the tesseract in his hand he turned towards the chard door in front of him and grabbing the door the man with the red skull walked out.
